I've got a Disc specced priest that will be hitting 58 any minute now. Then its a matter of waking up tomorrow and blasting my way to 60. Right now, my mana regen is great. I don't know if its because of gear or if its spirit tap doing it, but I cannot remember the last time I ran out of mana. I burned down an elite 2 levels above me in Winterspring without going below half as well.
My question is - stick with Spirit Tap for leveling, or repsec for Penance? I want to run instances as much as possible, so I'm sure Penance would be useful, but on the other hand, BC instances are probably a pain in the *** to group. What do you folks think? You are much more wise than myself in the ways of the Priest!

As a disc priest, Penance is one of your most important spells. I would go get it, if you plan to run any dungeons at all.
Carry water, and grab spirit tap again in the next few levels. Spirit tap is useful while questing up to 80, but I would want Penance as soon as I could get it.

I have a level 63 priest she has neither Penance or Spirit Tap. She has near infinite mana while healing BC instances. The BoA mana trinket helps while questing. I rarely have to drink in both situations if I have replenishment in a dungeon I forget I have a mana bar.
I shield spam to heal. The shields usually get broken by damage so I get a large amount of mana incoming regularly. Also since I am mitigating much of the damage I can get in some decent time OO5SR. Plus ST wont net you much mana while healing as you wont be delivering the killing blow.

I love shields too, but Penance is fun, fun, fun....
I can't wait for Penance but I love the crit for soloing.

I would suggest as others did, to respec for Penance. It does minor damage, but it is a huge help to healing. It is also very mana efficient so for using it as an opening it is not hurting you in terms of mana efficiency.
As for Spirit Tap, I would say it really depends on 2 things. What is your rotation and how do you "run" in game. If you are not casting a lot of Mind Blasts, which you most likely are not, and your crit % is low due to level, then it is not overly worth it. Secondly, if you run in groups more often than not, then it makes even less sense to worry about Spirit Tap... however if you plan to solo more often, then I would think about it to help keep you topped off.

I finally dinged and got me some Penance for mah priest.
Never get to play her though as everyone forces me to get on my main and tank stuff.
I want to take Penance out for a test drive but it has yet to happen.
Makes me a sad panda.

I healed them with shields and renew. The occasional FH and PoH. DKs are still insanely OP at that level due to fancy blue gear. Easy mode healing. Now that I am getting in MT I was starting to feel the lack of Penance but was still fairly easy due to all the blues I'd been getting from dungeons.
May try and heal something tonight and finally get to use the dang spell.
