Ret Idea, cause we need more amirite?Follow

#1 Jun 27 2009 at 10:33 PM Rating: Decent
im sure alot of people are going to hate this but I giggled like a school girl when it came to mind so ima post it anyway. feel free to tell me how horrible it is. 8P

So im sitting around watching some Aion videos when it hits me.

of all the stereotypes that wow has under its belt, the whole energy beam attack from a sword strike is not represented at all. (all the Aion melee videos have these attack, yes im stealing this idea 100% from Aion, Ahahaha)

then it clicked. Ret pally's constantly complain about a gap closer, interupts, and someting else that eludes me.

what if our new spammable CS was just a straight ranged attack, some kind of holy energy discharge from our weapon attacks(aw hell, who cares hows its rationallized). something like 25 yard. then we wouldnt really need a gap closer, we can still be doing something while chasing a kiter or what ever. even better it could maybe gain in power as it traveled. maybe after 10 yards distance it would have a 2 sec daze only if it hit their back, and after 20 yards a 4 sec daze or even a knock down(spammable interups but only at range and only with-in a 5 yard window at that) from the front or the back. the travel time of the attack could be slowed down to allow for some reaction from the opponent or the secondary effects would only work on an Art of War proc. which would give us 3 strategic choices, exo for more burst, FoL for survival, or CS for anti kite. (trying really hard not to be OP) 8P. if used in the dead zone, it wouldnt consume AoW.

in pvp, proper movements of skilled players can avoid the daze effects. but those movements also slow their kiting enough to keep things competative.

lvling up, it would be usefull to catch running mobs.

as a ranged attack, its not that OP seeing as its only every 4 seconds, and only 50% weapon damage. it would hardly do anything for our DPS execpt make movement fight a bit more bearable. in pvp that damage would hardly qualify as burst so its not all that impressive really. its just something to be able to keep the presure on someone, and a rather fun consept ive always like.

however, i have a dark suspicion that the next hero class will use a ton of melee energy beams, and i cant seem to figure out why. 8P

EDIT: mind moving too fast to get it right the first time, required much reorganizing to clearify thoughts properly.

Or, you know, they could just enable Exorcism in PvP again...

Eludes me why they didn't just scale it down instead of removing it. It's a little sick that two out of our four core attacks are both talents. Talents placed far into the DPS tree. Imagine if Warriors didn't get Heroic Strike and Whirlwind unless they spec'd for them at level 50 and 60.

Hello, mr. Warrior. Until you hit level 50, please use auto-attack and Slam, kthx.

In my opinion, the only thing Retribution needs right now is a spell interrupt. Rogues, Death Knights and Warriors have them. All we can do is stun them if possible, shield or soak the damage. Makes it mighty hard to kill healers if you don't get a crit chain.

It's not that weird. Enhancement shamans don't get Stormstrike until level 40+, and they can't use LB effectively until they get Maelstrom Weapon, so until then it's autoattack and Earth Shock. Similarly, a rogue can't spec Mut until he's actually far enough into Assassination to get Mutilate. Until then he just puts down one of those water bird thingies on his Sinister Strike key.

It stops people playing hybrids from dpsing with the other two trees since all the dps abilities are in the dps tree. There's nothing odd about it. What's really odd is that they gave us a ranged taunt/pull (Hand of Righteousness), and then almostly instantaneously made Exorcism usable on all targets, thus making HoR totally redundant. What annoys me about the upcoming Exorcism change is that it'll be unusable for prot now.

Anyway, I think it'd be sweet if Judgments were like what Ruen described. It seems the most sensible.

To be perfectly honest though, our stun is incredibly powerful.

It's the same duration and effect as a kidney shot. Sure, it can be glyphed up to 15 yard range and requires no setup of combo points, but it has a base 60 second cooldown. Ret can talent it to 40 seconds, prot to 20; still higher than a rogue's 15.

And it's a magic effect, so it can easily be dispelled, or prevented by silence.
