I seem to have missed this patch note. Otherwise this is horribly bugged. My unstable affliction is over written by immolate. Since when?! I'm horrified. This isn't right is it? Oy vey!

EDIT

Apparently I found a post talking about this. And apparently I wasn't the only warlock horrified. I'm just horrified awhile after the change. This seems like a bad change? Isn't it? *Sighs* At least I don't have to cast immolate anymore...?

I think this happened in 3.0? Not sure, as I wasn't playing my warlock at the time.

Makes Affliction rotations much simpler, doesn't it? Haunt, SB, dot, dot, dot, SB spam, lather, rinse, repeat...

old news. you wouldn't want to cast immolate in an affliction rotation anymore even if you could as it no-longer benefits from Shadow embrace or haunt

No its a 3.1 change I must have missed. I haven't played since 3.1. Was surprising...but does simplify rotation. Does it effect overall DPS?

Yep, because it's easier to maintain a rotation. Easier to maintain rotation = more DPS. Also they probably did some balancing with the other spells to compensate for without it. Like the haunt glyph is very nice.

it's true for most people as most can't hold a 'complex' rotation.. the simpler it is the higher the average dps becomes as there's less variation due to complexity.. also with that patch change they made plenty of other changes to the affliction tree so that the loss of dps from the rotation changes of having no immolate or siphon life are made up for by more powerful dots/a better SB filler

I'll remember that next time I'm on my druid spamming mangle because I just can't get the whole combo point system through my head.

combo points are easy, the tough part is using your energy efficiently and planning when to use what ability (not simply, zomg i have enough energy to do it, lets do it now) i think it's refered to as 'energy saving' and well, it can get complex without the right combination of mods

In the rogue community its called energy pooling, and is a very viable strat for mid-fight burst damage, when tied together with trinkets/talents.
