Questions for a rogueFollow

#1 Jun 24 2009 at 11:48 PM Rating: Default
Sup dudes!

Am just in the process of getting a rogue in the higher levels. I have played a warlock/Pally/Mage in end game/pvp since vanilla. I am very unaware of the ins and outs of one class. Have read a lot on ej/mmo champ/ arena junkies etc re rogues, but wanted to ask a few upfront questions.

1. Is it worth rolling a rogue to raid ? Do people want them? Do people ask for them? dont see a lot of rogues in raids.

2. What smashes a rogue in pvp? what is to a rogue as a rogue is to a warlock? what classes do you guys run from?

3. How easy/hard are you to gear in comparrison to locks/mage/pally? ( in pve )

4. What is your classes biggest fault, Let down.

5. One is one thing you are dam thankfull for rogues have?

6. Would you recommend I roll a dps warrior over a rogue for pvp/pve.

Asking this as I have a lot of toons already at 80 and want to hardout have a dps melee class and have a dk at 70 then realised rolling my face on keyboards was already the job of playing my warlock.

Thanks heaps dudeeeeees. You guys rock. p.s forgive my spelling. I was exciting in asking rogue questions haha.

1) I enjoy my rogue and have no trouble getting in to raids. People rarely ask for a rogue, but I've never met a person who didn't want me around. But topping the DPS charts kind of helps with that.

2) Being a rogue in PVP is double-edged. If you initiate the fight, there's almost no one you can't kill unless they seriously outgear you. However, if someone manages to catch you with your pants down you're fairly likely going to die if you're alone. Get a pocket healer and you'll tear through everything though.

3) Tough question because it's going to vary on your luck with drop rates. You should only have to compete against other rogues or feral druids, both of which aren't horribly common (at least on my server). Or if you get stuck in groups who don't believe in priorities.

4) Rogue doesn't bring any buffs to a raid that can't already be done by someone else (read: Master Poisoner). Tricks of the Trade isn't a reason to bring a rogue to anything, especially since it really only helps yourself anyway. I guess if for some reason you don't have a warrior, you can get a rogue to do Expose Armor in place of sunder, but it's not like it's a debuff people are clamoring over.

5) Level rogue and you tell me.

6) That's all up to you, but I tend to destroy warriors in both pvp and pve.

1. Is it worth rolling a rogue to raid ? Do people want them? Do people ask for them? You don't really see a lot of non-hybrid classes in raids, but most raids have 2-3 rogues in them, some of their talents can help buff the raid such as Master Poisoner (+3% crit) mis-direct ability (tricks of the trade) and some crowd control abilities which can be useful. The thing with most melee dps nowadays is there is a lot of them, most raids the melee are topping the dps rogues along with ret pallys, arms warriors and DK's.

2. What smashes a rogue in pvp? Mainly said 1v1 fights depends upon your skill and the skill of a player, when playing a rogue its essential to be behind your target at melee range, and yet avoid damage. Using your cooldowns properly, interupting, crowd controlling and bursting are all parts of being successful in pvp. With an arena partner though it completely changes the situation, the most common Priest/Rogue setup usually stuggles against druid/plate teams from my experience.

http://thekingdomofernor.com/serendipity/index.php?/archives/37-Rogue-Guides.html is a good set of guides for pvp written by a well known pvp rogue, Buddhist.

3. How easy/hard are you to gear in comparrison to locks/mage/pally? ( in pve ) Aside from tier pieces, weapons and offset are only shared with feral druids, and maybe fists with Shamans. So far however I've found getting loot fairly easy to gear/socket/enchant at the current state of raiding.

4. What is your classes biggest fault, Let down. Vanish, it fails all the time.

5. One is one thing you are dam thankfull for rogues have? Axes :]

6. Would you recommend I roll a dps warrior over a rogue for pvp/pve. It's a completely different class, but if you want to have a go at both tanking and melee dps then I suppose it would make sense. Although levelling a warrior is VERY boring.
