My name is Nerissa and I am about to start playing World of Warcraft, if everything works out well and I get my own computer in a week. After much studying and searching and thinking, I realized that my favorite class is the Paladin one. So, I will start as a Blood Elf Paladin.
What I would like to ask from you is some piece of advice, like how should I start. I am asking for something like a guide for starters. I just feel that I am still a bit clueless. I hope there won't be flaming. Thank you very much, in advance. I hope that I will make it up for you by helping you somehow in the game.

Well Welcome to Wow, hope you love being a Paladin, they are not as boring as some say, there is lots to learn and you have come to the right place, some of the players here are the best in the game. The only thing you've done wrong so far is go bloodelf LOL! ok joking, sorry you hordies.

Pally is a pretty good choice as a starting character as they can take on almost anything without fear but do always read the top posts ( "stickies" and are fixed there for that reason as they contain so much info about a class ) i can say i find pallys a lot of fun but go retribution as its fun watching yourself being healed as you attack .
I can give you a little advice and that is take it steady and do not try and rush to higher levels as you need to find your own speed and ways to play.
i will say you will be short of gold at first so as soon as you get out of the first ( starting area ) area get either skinning and mining or skinning and herbs from the trainers , then you need to learn how to sell at the auction house , anything that has a colored label other than grey may be sellable , you can get an addon called auctioneer suite which i find valuable in telling me if things are worth selling at auction or just giving them to vendors but it needs to scan the auction house on a regular basis or its prices are not great and on my servers , it takes about 15 minutes so coffee break/dinner time is a good time. You can just browse the auction house and try to guess the price that will sell but that takes practice and i find it easier to use auctioneer suite . I know it will take a little time to get enough big bags but even though it may take all your gold they will pay for themselves .
As soon as possible get the largest bags you can afford , i aim for the 16 slot bags but 10 slots are ok as the bigger the bags are the less amount of time is lost in finding a vendor and of course the more items you can carry means even vendor trash can make you gold , if you take your time and make sure you fill your bags fully each time you return quests you should have little problem getting enough gold , if your bags are half empty and you want to return a quest then kill everything on the way or way back , if your bags are overflowing it is ok to delete some of the trash items if you can get something useful into them but is better if you can find a vendor .
I tend to keep going as long as possible and delete enough trash to make more gold , but i do know what i am doing.
I can say do not worry about buying any gear as you level but of course if you are making decent amounts of gold and find a decent upgrade item that is about your level in the auction house at not some stupidly high price then it is ok to buy it .
I tend to mix some quested items with a few brought items on my pally , its a decent weapon that i look out for so always get the slowest and hardest hitting weapon you can find.
I will also say with questing look at the color of the quest label , grey is no exp but gives rep , green is easy so pick them first always , yellow is normal but while you are learning some are at the top of your level range and can be hard , brown is harder but depending on you may be easily possible with some care taken , red is dangerous and depending on the mobs level may mean you die fast.
I can say you may run out of easier quests so try to find another area with green/yellow quests , as a BE its a simple trip to undercity as there is a portal in silvermoon and from there to the other horde areas a flight in a zepplin from outside undercity , you will find many others doing the trip to other areas even at low level so do not stay in an area unless you want to.
I could go on but this should help.

Enjoy yourself. If you, like many/most, get your first toon to maximum level (or before) and go back and start another, it will never be quite the same. Don't rush. See the sights. Read quest text. Enjoy the lore.
You can get by without Auctioneer for a while. If you never buy upgrades (I wouldn't suggest it unless you /know/ you can afford it), you won't need Auctioneer to keep you from being ripped off. What you'd miss out on is that some things (cloth - types depending on server, small eggs, and some others - also depending on server) are "worth" much more than similar items. You'll definitely want it before your gathering professions start coming in, as you'll be entering a very competitive, unregulated, market (as they say in poker, if you can't spot the mark when you sit down at the table, the mark is /you/). It's relatively complicated, but worth the investment of time. BTW, the newest version has a "quick scan" option that, if you have a good/fast connection, significantly reduces time for scans, which increase in value the more often they are done.
As soon as you can, get skinning and either mining or herbalism (not both because you can only track either minerals or herbs at any one time). Enchanting (specifically /dis/enchanting, might be even better, but I don't recommend it if you're new to the game. Sell the proceeds on the auction house.
Don't ignore cooking and fishing. Don't spend so much time on them that they become boring, but some time invested is time well spent (I got many levels of fishing waiting for boats, which is dead time otherwise).
Be ready for combat, especially, to get a little boring. For a long time, all melee and all casters are relatively similar. It's not until past level 20 (or beyond) that classes gain the abilities that distinguish them and make each unique and fun.
Don't waste time killing random creatures for experience. Questing (and killing the things that stand in your way) is both less repetetive and a better use of your time. Unless you're killing things specifically for profit measured in money, either for what they drop or to skin them).
Don't forget the paladin-specific quests when they come along. It's part of the lore that gives the class its flavor and, for me, a big part of the fun. For a long time, it was sitting on the charger that really gave the feeling "I /am/ a paladin - I passed the trials and now I'm ready to wield the light". Mind you, if you're a blood elf, your lore is a bit different...

Welcome to WoW!!! If you're starting a BE pally,id suggest going ret for leveling,If you want to be a cuasal player but and not be stressed out,STAY RET,a Prot's life isnt easy...pallys take time to level.Prots are hard to play at low levels,and its hard to get through the outlands becuase of Deathknights. If you chose to be a holy pally and you want to raid...i say GoodLuck,when you hit the outlands,or a little before,start getting Holy pally gear and roll on dps or tank gear along the way in dungeons,if you dont want to do dungeons,lvl ret al the way.(yeah i sorta said some of the same things 2-3times,but i need to make a point about pallies lol)

After a long time, I returned to this place. I gotta say that yes, I got my paladin. She's my second character though. I've lost the link to here, but now that I came I see that what I chose agries with what you wrote. I am a Ret Pally, Blood Elf. Still, I am at low level (17), but I am doing my best to level up, when I can play. I am at Xavius, if you know that server. So, if you want, add me as a friend.
