Hi, me again; asking for help with a guild mage.

He is arcane spec'd .

Trying to get him to respec to the 57/3/11 cookie cutter, Anobix's arc spec. He will likely do it as I have told him its better DPS and other people are nipping at his heels for highest on the meters. Plus on 2 occasions when I had him make changes,go to a meta helm that was lower iLevel and change a glyph to the Molten one, his DPS went up. So he will listen to what I tell him.

Is there anything else I can suggest to him to help his DPS? Uses the normal ABx3 based rotation. He uses some of his CDs in macros that auto trigger so he wont forget to use them. Are any of them to good to not have baked in? He usually sits around 3k depending on the fight.

Gemming and enchant wise what can I have him move around or prioritize differently?

Thanks.

Well if they raid as arcane a lot then they are way way way over hit cap (and have gemmed for it as well, which is generally a no-no).

It would be easier with a WWS link or two with various fights to compare with. Overall I would raid as fire though, it is the highest DPS spec for mages right now in Ulduar gear and they have the hit gear to do it... even without gemming (which I frown upon).

I'll get a WWS on Monday night's raid so it'll be a few days.

He will likely lose the hit gems as he got new gears just on Wednesday that had a crap load of hit and hasn't adjusted everything to account for it yet.

So until then party on Wayne.

How is fire top now? I just dropped my solo spec to pick up Fire but have yet to raid as it. Without the Glyph of Scorch, casting Scorch is a no-no, but it's either that, or getting Fireball/Molten Armor/Living Bomb.

fire has a lot higher potential for dps, especially with the longer fights that you have in ulduar.

Many raid groups have one warlock go with improved shadowbolt that puts up the same buff as imp scorch. You shouldn't be glyphing for scorch anymore anyway. Even I'd you have to scorch the initial 5 scorches, the 3 other glyphs are far bigger dps increases.

Is Fire based more on Crit than SP? I ran Emalon25 and 10 just today, Arcane on Emalon, Fire on Archavon. With Arcane I did between 4400-4800. With Fire I only did 3500.

I hate to think I am just messing it up.

All spec have spellpower as their #1 dps source (past being close to hit cap, of course), although fire benefits far more from crit than arcane does.

You didn't do a fair comparison, you are comparing dps on different fights. Is your gear setup for fire or is it setup for arcane? Did you have proper raid buffs there? Are you hit capped with fire? Do you have different gear sets for each? Fully glyphed for each one? Did you have to evocate with Fire spec? How long did the fights last? Was it with the same group makeup/same people? You were using a proper arcane/fire spec and know how to use cooldowns properly with it?

I went with your exact glyphs/talents. Gear was same because nothing else available would be worth equipping. I am FAR from hit capped on fire but had only 2 misses in a Hodir fight, both were Scorch(no Imp Shadow Bolt Lock).
The only benefit I saw from Fire was I never got close to running out of MP. When I got low I could pop 4k Gem(2 pieces of T7/.5) and a Runic Mana Potion if it got really low(only happened one time).
As Arcane against Hodir I gained more SP from absorption talent I picked up(dropped slow) and and still did not have to Evocate. Between Spirit buff, 6k mana gems and a mana pot I never ran below 25%. I admit I use Mana Gem glyph over Arcane Missiles but lack of Evo comes to higher DPS than the 25% crit bonus. With the update I will swap over (12% less MP ABlast)

With Arcane you have almost instant hit cap, as fire it's far from. I'd have to gem for hit or chant for hit to come near cap. I run with 248 Hit Rating and the only gear I can upgrade is in Uld(not willing to run Naxx just for Sapph/KT).

When I get further hit gear and haste gear I will be trying fire again for sure.

Sunday

Still have some hit to remove from gear. My fault as I forgot to make gems for him.

Mana is his biggest concern in general.

Melee not running on Bombs is fail. I hate them.
