DPS Help Please?Follow

#1 Jun 18 2009 at 9:36 AM Rating: Decent
I have been playing a DK for a few months now and reached 80 a few weeks ago. My DPS is currently around 1600 fully buffed and I know that is not great. I have tried redoing my talents numerous times and am currently 45/26 blood/unholy. I tried this most recent one to see if the permanent pet helped my DPS.

I am just wondering if anyone can check out my talent trees and help me out on what I should or should not change. I am looking for suggestions and criticism on my gear and talents, not comments on how much they suck. So please, helpful information only. Keep in mind that I have only been playing WoW for about 7 months, so I am not an expert by any means.

Here is a link to my Armory for gear and talents.

I know gear has a lot to do with DPS and I am working on 5man heroics to upgrade. If anyone can link their talent trees that I could use as a guide to help raise my DPS I would appreciate it.

Rune of the Fallen Crusader, put it on there, it's better than any of the others for DPS.

Hit Rating. You need much more.

2 Handers need 8% to be capped, so stack it and keep looking at your percentage when you mouse over your Hit Rating number on the chracter sheet. Being a little bit over is fine, you need more for spell hit anyway. (IT, DC, etc)

I'd say replace the Savage pieces with plate DPS that have Hit, and after that the Scarlet Signet, and see where you are after that.

Collect some Expertise as well.

Gemming Haste is bad mmkay? Basically just cram STR gems, and to make the meta work, cram in ones that are hybrids, still with STR. In your case, jam in some Hit gems to help out.

I've seen your spec before, but haven't heard it's succesful. Try something like this. http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#jfVMZZfzhILcdgcq0ssut:LbpVMm

My Frost Death Knight (signature) hit 80 not a long time ago. He's pulling 2k DPS on dummies self-buffed. Though I imagine the mitigation in heroics and such is higher than a target dummy, because a lot of my attacks are spells, armor rating doesn't matter.

I don't even think I'm hit capped (I know there's no cap to hit rating, but I'm referring to the 8% here).

I should probably join a heroic someday to see what my actual DPS in an instance is. One thing is dummy DPS, where you get to stand still and whack at a wooden thingy. It's something different when the wooden thingy fears, tail swipes and so on.

Did you even bother with the faq? Not to sound like an *** (as if I could help it) but it's there for exactly these types of threads.

I'm going to talk strictly PvE DPS, because that's what it sounds like you're after. You're gearing for PvE so you're passing survivability for DPS.

Helm:

Get the right meta.
Get a +hit or +STR gem in there.(+16 stat ones)

Chest: Change +AP gem for +STR.

Gloves: Change to STR or HIT gem.

Belt: Change to STR or HIT gem.

Pants: Change to STR or HIT gem. Get DPS leg armor.

That's just for starters. You've got a half PvE set and half PvP set on right now. Keep one set for PvP and get some other pieces just for PvP and get dual spec.

I posted here so I could get direct replies and not have to search through numerous posts. If I have bothered searching through the faq I probably would not have posted this.

Isn't that the purpose of the FAQ though?

Look, I know what it's like to be new and want help figuring out stats and priorities. That is how I found this forum in the first place. What I discovered here were great explanations and links to more in-depth analysis as well as a solid community for when you can't find the info elsewhere. I learned about my class so I could make better, more productive choices in the future.

Teach a man to fish, etc, etc.

I do not feel that responses to threads like this (aka "gear/spec checks") have value. It is far, far better to learn and understand how your class works than to rely on a bunch of forum posters to tell you what to change. I just think these posts wont' actually help you in the long-run.

There's a difference between knowledge of facts and understanding of them.

Cloak of bloodied waters-Herioc gundrak.. get it a bit better for plate dps then ice strikers
Vengeance Bindings- crafted, cheap mats. pretty much BiS for pre raidng.. get them.
Gauntlets of dragin wrath-herioc Ocules. if you can get a group to finish it.
Staggering Legplates- Herioc UK, easy herioc get them

Are you tanking or trying to dps or pvping? Change some of those AP gems for pure strength gems.. DK's get more bang for the buck with strength then anything else. You can get hit capped with gear alone so don't waste those sockets on them.. go for strength or expertise.

My orc dk- metsu has pretty much the cookie cutter blood spec talents if you want to follow it.
As far as rotation.. go to elitist jerks and stuff. They have a huge blood dps thread on there.

The faq here on alla needs to get severely updated since it still has Diseaseless as a spec. It's more suited for unholy/frost till diseaselees became the fotm.
