Drop the tri-spec... Forst/Unholy Dual WieldFollow

#1 Jun 18 2009 at 4:19 AM Rating: Decent
Hey, wanted to put this out to you knowledgeable DKs.

Thinking of a DW spec that isn't tri-specced, so I've dropped blood, and gone with this:

Have I missed anything massive? If so, please let me know - haven't had time to research the DPS yet, but when I do, I'll let you know.

Thanks.

I'll be interested in seeing your DPS compared to a good spec. Dual-wielding is totally nerfed from all I have heard. Best of luck!

Looking through your spec... well, the problem is that HB is on an 8 second cooldown, so your KM procs don't get as much oomphff! as they used to. Frost Strike is based on weapon damage, meaning it always hits for a lot more with a two-hander. Your have some ghoul talents, but no perma-ghoul, which sorta bites. Again, run some recounts, see how your DPS does. I'm 90% sure you'll switch back to a two-hander (and the other 10% is because you ignore the DPS results and just like dual-wielding, not the results).

Best DW specs now are Unholy. Here is my 0/13/58 build. Pretty similar to an EJ.com build.

Unholy has the most weapon independant damage. UB, Garg, Ghoul, extra disease, etc. FS and Oblit take a big weapon. HB has too long of a CD.

If you still want to be frost, great. I'd consider getting chill to the grave. You want to pump out those FS as quick as possible. Other than that, the build looks pretty standard frost dps. It is straight forward as a dps tree really.

With the absolute best weapons, I wouldn't be surprised if you were out-dpsed by a normal 2-hand build with an average (at best) axe or mace.

DW is currently dead.

Well, tri-spec hasn't been alive since... geez... beta? (Well, Ok, there is one experimental build that I've seen but it's not raid viable.) So you might consider doing some reading up here and EJ a bit more often =)

Deep Frost is based around Frost Strike (and Oblit) which is weapon-dependent and thus not ideal for DWing. DW Frost is based around RP generation and IT spamming with a lot of crit/haste. A pretty specific gear requirement, trust me. And it doesn't go for Howling.

Right now the only "kinda good" DW builds are, as mentioned above, Unholy. There's a really useful thread on EJ about it if you're just dying to go for it and ever so love gearing Hit.

In the end analysis, so far, DWing is not putting out the same damage as 2-hand builds (even some weirdo experimental ones). Now, this is important: If you don't raid hard mode keepers in Ulduar or Sarth-3D it's not that big a deal. Have fun swinging your two swords/maces/fish/whatever. Just be aware that you're not going to do as much DPS as you could be. But if you are pushing progression, it ain't no min/max my friend.

I've always meant to ask this (because google translator fails me here):

What the hell does it mean?

I understand the first three, the fifth and the last kanji. But I don't know the other three...
