Hey all, so I have 1K gold again. I know making money with easy at 80, which a few days away :) Anyways, I've read the forums and realize boomkins are usally wanted in heorics and raids. I feel It'll be easier as a tree. I'm currently specced boomkin. My question is, is it worth it to spend the 1K on dual spec so I have a better chance of getting into groups? Along with that question. Is it feesable to heal and cast DPS with the same gear? The only difference i know of between the two are crit strike and hit VS MP5 and spirit, to my knowledge. Thanks!

I'm going to get it when I have around 1.5k gold.

I raid and need money for repairs and consumables.

If you're just starting out having a cash supply isn't as crucial.

That being said, one guy we raid with is Boom/Resto DS. I love it. He is very useful.

Also you will need 2 gear sets. Some pieces will over lap and get the same chant/gem set up but don't count on it.

Dual spec is golden for druids. Beeing able to join groups as dps or resto will make it so much easier to get into groups, and later when joining raids your flexibility will ensure you get a raid spot. I myself am dual specced into feral tank and feral dps. It's incredibly valuable for a raid to have en off tank that is capable of topping dps meters when he's not tanking.

Even if you won't raid you can spec pvp and then a pve spec for instances/farming. It's by far the best 1k gold i have spent in the game.

If you just wan't to try some new talents out, you can spec into them and change in the middle of an instance to compare dps or if it didn't really work out.

Since we have more viable roles than any other class Dual Spec makes more sense for us than any other class.

But I would say if you don't have swift flight form yet, save up for that first.

And I healed normal instances in feral spec with a smattering of healing pieces, so I shouldn't think you would have a lot of trouble with some of the easier heroics.

Spirit works well for moonkins too. I am able to dps (when i'm offspecced for it) with all my healing gear on as a boomkin(except for some +sh*tloadofhitrating pieces ofc) and I manage enough dps to get along with all the rest. Ofcourse I prefer to heal, I love to do that, but if we're full on healers, I can at least do some dps.
I love the dualspec feature, it's so easy! Atm my offspec is tank, so I bring the perfect raid utility. Being able to tank or heal, and in desperation, I can respec to moonkin. (man, we need a tri-spec)

Man I don't know how I got things done before dual-spec

Seriously, if your money allows it, go get it imo...

My druid is dual spec'd feral/resto. Best thing Blizz has ever come out with. The opportunites are amazing with the ability to change spec's on the fly. All my hybrids are dual spec'd now.

My normal 25 raiding group usually takes 3 boomkins along with trees as well. We don't have any kitties. I currently raid with a disc/shadow priest, but am working on getting my druid to 80 for 10man raiding as well.

Whichever path you choose, dual spec makes it more convenient.

So we can bounce back and forth between our 2 specs during raids or whenever? I'm so there

I've got dual specc on my pally and my shamman. It's awesome. Get it.

I plan on getting it on my leveling druid too, but first I need to get to 80 (Currently at 70) and more importantly get me enough gold to get swift flight form. Once those two are done, I'm all about getting dual specc. I'm going Boomkin/Resto.

Funnily enough, even though Blizzard said it wouldn't be the case, I see dual specc as almost a requirement in some raids, for instance Hodir, 25 mans where three tanks is a real waste, so two of the usual tanks go dps for that fight.

My fresh 80 druid is Resto/Balance.
My main (mage) is Arcane/FFB (at least until I manage to get a decent set of hit gear, then I'll change FFB for Fireball).
Paladin is Prot/Ret
66 Warlock is Affliction/Demonology.

I kind of want to Dual Spec my shaman but he's only 26 so I have to wait.
Thinking about Dual Speccing my 66 Death Knight, but I guess I'll wait till I actually decide to play him again... >.>'

TLDR: <3 Dual Spec

I have dual spec on my druid (Resto/Balance) and my DK (Unholy DPS/Unholy Tank) and I love it. I mainly play my druid and she is pushing Ulduar now. It is very convenient to be in and be able to switch on the spot to dps when the fight doesn't need lots of heals. I pretty much just roll with my resto gear and have a relic and trinket I switch out that are more healing stuff over to dps stuff.

It is probably not the most ideal way to go as I only have about 48 hit rating when I do that so I see myself miss a bit, but I still manage to pull 2-3k dps (and have had fights as high as 3.8k.) I am sure if I was hit capped I could pull 4-5k as I have seen quite a few boomkins do, but I am not worried about that as my main spec is resto.

For the OP's original ? - for me dual spec is well worth it. I am in a guild with rl friends, a few of us are working through the progression and are in Uld, but many on't so I spend most of my raiding in PUGs and networks we have created. So there are more PUG spots that need to be filled and knowing I have the versatility to pul fair enough dps and good healz I always have a spot. Most healers will always have a spot, but the versatility is nice.

If there is chance you will use it,then I would say it is worth it. Besides why not do it and then get back into the food grind. Being able to go BOOMkin also is very nice for dailies and if I feel like blowing stuff up in WG! For me that alone is worth it.

Healers and tanks have very crappy single player viablity, so it's definitely worth it for them so that they can have a soloing spec.

It's also worth it if you seriously PvP and raid on the same char so that you can have 2 appropriate specs for both purposes. If you don't really raid PvP specs do just fine on heroics.

In the case that you're a DPS spec and "want more groups" or "want to help your raid" that's give and take. It's more of a question of whether you like healing/tanking or not.

Healing and tanking require some practice so you're going to have to like it. You will "get more groups" but you're not going to upgrade your DPS gear much in those. It will however make your rep/emblems grind go much faster, and in this aspect it may easily be worth the 1000 for those grinds even if you're not using it much afterwards.

No.

I went tank spec 70-80. AoE grinding was good stuff. Quest wants me to kill 10 mobs and 5 are close? Pull all 5 and mow them down. Stats and talents have enough overlap to make tank spec leveling easy. Plus tanks do way more DPS now.

Healer is another story but I haven't done that so I can't say. I would imagine with some hit gear for leveling it would be all that bad. Worse than any other leveling tree but not as bad as other healers perhaps.

To be fair, how much difference is there between Feral DPS, feral Tanking, and a solo spec?

Prot pallys solo just fine, not sure about warriors or tank-spec DKs, never played either.

Unlike Paladins and Warriors, you don't find a Protection Death Knight. Since we don't have a specific tank talent tree, a tanking spec requires you to slap some points into each, to get maximum avoidance and such. However, my Death Knight is the only character I have capable of running straight from questing into an instance to tank or DPS, without changing talent spec or equipping anything else. Granted, avoidance could be higher, but the sheer awesomeness of the threat keeping skills means the healer doesn't have to focus on anyone but me. Provided I'm the tank, of course.

Arms Warriors and Retribution Paladins can probably also tank 5-man normals, but not without changing gear. All my Death Knight does is change his Presence (stance/aura) to Frost instead of Blood. 60% more armor, 10% more health and -5% damage taken.

Edit: Rephrased.

I leveled as resto from 70-80 and it sucked. I thought constantly about going and respecing every day, but just didn't. Caster form was OK enough... just slow.

Ohh and I just did a VOA the other day, 25 man with buffs I was doing 3.8k dps in my resto gear with a valor wrath dmg relic and a balance trinket. Dual spec is worth it!
