FFB dps low. cast sequence maybe?Follow

#1 Jun 16 2009 at 1:35 PM Rating: Decent
MY armory is here:

basically 1569 sp. 31% fire crit chance.

my dps is sitting around 2k for some reason and not going higher than 2300 with CDs.
dont know if this is the right dps for my gear?

anyway, my rotation is

Scorch, LB, FFB and then hotstreak when it comes up. and LB when its gone. Scorch before an instant pyro to stop ignite munching....so anything wrong?

I don't know much about fire but that seems like absolutely abysmal SP. Do you have chants/gems/etc?
That is the biggest hole in you that I see, but maybe a good Fire mage will come speak up.

I see a couple of things on the armory but it would really help to know the situtation/group makeup. Are you talking about 5mans 10mans or 25 mans and what kind of group buffs are you getting.

If you have a lock with improved shadowbolt you can stop scorching as part of the rotation.

Disenchant that helm and have a tailor make you the hat of wintry doom ( http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=41984&source=live&locale=enUS )until you get a good epic one. That alone will introduce a metagem socket and also get your hit up some. If you are running raids you need to get hit up quite a bit. The cap for the normal frostfirebolt spec is 289 if you have a shadowpriest or boomkin in the raid.

If it is a raid build you need to tweak your spec a little. You dont have Playing With Fire or Molten Fury and instead have firestarter, dragonsbreath, and blast wave. That wont hurt you as bad in 5 mans or soloing but Molten Fury is a must have for raiding frostfirebolt and Playing with fire alone will be a 3% dmg increase. Glyph of Living Bomb is very good and can replace improved scorch if you have a Imp shadowbolt lock with you. Also dont forget to finish out enchants, your cloak needs haste, your belt needs the buckle socket, you can enchant your rings, Kirin Tor rep will get you head enchant and Sons of Hodir will get you shoulder enchant. For gems i would drop everything for spellpower (and some hit) for now except to activate a meta, which would be 2 purified twilight opals.

Can probably try to help more when I find out if you are looking for max damage for 10man, 25man, or just heroic/soloing.

To emphasize this, you cannot underestimate how good a metagem is for the FFB spec. The hat linked with an active meta is better than any epic hat without a meta I've seen.

Toxicityoh pretty much covered all the points. Your playing style seems to be mostly fine. But if that's really the rotation your using you've wasted a lot of points in your spec and you should tweak your spec as Tox suggested (+molten fury/playing with fire -the aoe fire talents). In addition you could perhaps drop the points you have in shatter in favor of frost channeling to save a bit of mana and extend your longevity in fights. Shatter is almost 100% useless for group play.

Your dps is about on par with your gear level. People doing 3k+ on FFB are typically wearing full epics w/a meta gem and getting raid buffs. The last thing to worry about is just upgrading your gear and getting the higher tier enchants on it all.

2k dps should be done in greens/blues/a few epics at 80. I was doing over 2kdps at level 70. By the time I was raiding Naxx 3k was pretty standard (3 weeks into wotlk), so I wouldn't set your bars that low. I now consistently do around 5k dps.

To bring up the question again, where are you doing these benchmarks for your dps?

the 2k dos I was refering to was on a dummy the heroic one. I'll get that head piece and see how much that helps.

The head will help a bit but again, you should change you spec if you're going for max single target raid dps. This is the standard FFB build. 2.3k damage on the dummy goes up significantly in a raid setting if your comp or the fight is caster friendly.

3k dps was not at all the "standard" 3 weeks into wrath. It was possible if you researched your toon's new abilities and invested a lot of time but the people leading raid dps were typically not doing any more than 3-3.5k at that point in a mix of emblem & heroic 5 man gear. Anyone doing more was the exception, and the vast bulk of people were doing more like 1.7k-2.5k. Now you're talking about doing 5k on Fireball spec with full naxx25+ level gear which seems out of place since this guy is using a green trinket which increases spirit and a regular HoS drop for his head piece.

I did basic research to learn how to play FFB (not super hard compare to other classes). When I was in Naxx at the beginning I was in sunwell/t6 gear.

That being said, doing around 2.5k in blues is pretty standard I would figure, especially if raid buffs are included.

I dont know what im doing wrong then.

this is what i do:

Scorch, LB, FFB,FFB, FFB, and then instant pyro when its up. and LB when it runs out.
with my gear i can get only about 2k dps on dummies for some reason. It doesnt go any higher. WHATS WRONG :(

You are on a test dummy without any raid buffs and without the target being debuffed. That is quite a difference from what you will do in raids. That with the previous changes should make you just fine on damage.

The problems are:

You are not raid buffed
The dummy is not debuffed by anything other than your debuffs
You get 0 molten fury time (because the dummies cannot die) and most likely are not below 35% hp
Are you popping cooldowns?
How long are you lasting from full to oom -- I just did a run on a dummy, I went oom in 2min 10sec with my normal casting priority as fireball spec and hit around 3.8kdps. Then again my gear is much better than yours.
