How do you get elemental hit?Follow

I've been resto for a while now but collected enough good caster gear to flirt with elemental for PvP. While it has obvious weaknesses it was nice lighting things up in BGs and sometimes my raids could use another caster dps. But I am baffled as to how to get enough hit rating. Part of the problem is that I don't want to part with http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=39763;source=live. If I just got the KT dagger it'd probably make life easier, but I'd prefer another option. Yet without that or any hit on my shield (I have the emblem shield) I dont see how it works. I grabbed a decent amount of WG gear, but the only elemental shammy gear in game I saw with +hit is the t7-7.5 gloves. That ain't enough. What am I missing?

Have you looked at cloth? I think it tends to have a bit more hit than mail.

Other than that I have no idea. Are you using hit enchants?

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=37408 - H UP, 48 Hit. It has Spirit, but it's alright to have a bit of Spirit whilst getting Hit capped.

Any PvP gear with 'Ascendancy' in the name.

And the list goes on and on...

I guess the question is -- how do you keep hit once you've graduated from heroic items? I havent seen any +hit mail in Naxx outside the tier hands. How do raiding elemental shammies handle it? Do you just rely on Vh trinket/icewalker/precision/rigid autumn's glows everywhere? Fight w clothies for their drops?

Or, to elaborate even more -- I just spent some time on maxdps and it seems the only way to get +hit with mail at all is with the t7 gloves and pvp/wg gear. Which is insane. (Must get welfare epix to raid? Thought they'd taken care of that.) So now I should go grind honor in order to PvE? Seems like a huge itemization issue for Blizz. I'm fine wearing cloth but the odds are far better of winning a roll on our own armor than on a type that three other classes wear.

Eager to hear from raiding elemental shammies to see if someone can contradict me....

That's because there is none. There is literally not one single piece of mail spell gear with hit on it outside of tier gear in either Naxx or Ulduar. Elemental Shaman have to get their hit from from non-armor slots (cloaks, rings, etc.), augments (gems, enchants), tier gear, or, as others have suggested, leather and cloth. The problem with that last option is, of course, that leather and cloth frequently carry spirit.

If you want to get hit-capped as an Elemental Shaman, expect to spend all of your augments toward hit at first. And if your guild runs on DKP, you really need to gun full-barrel for trinkets like the Dying Curse and tier gear.

off topic here, but Gaudion, your sig is both awesome (in the math nerd kind of way) and saddening (because I want enhancement to be viable and kick some *** in PvP).

Good stuff...

If I recall correctly, that sig stems from a huge flame war w Theo....

Thanks Gaudion for confirming my fears. I imagine its the same w boomkins. In trying to simplify gear so resto specs could easily use for caster dps blizz seems to have overlooked the most critical dps stat.

I was wondering that same thing.

I have looked at a few Cloth items, but our main raid leader is a bit reluctant to give me cloth loot. He thinks it's unfair to the clothies who only have one profficiency.

Yes, and I have Sinstralis to thank for it. I don't know if he made that up on the spot or modified the quote from somewhere else. I'd like to give him credit, but there actually isn't room in the signature box for me to quote him there. =/

I would tend to agree with your raid leader. It's generally better to let the classes with a more limited gear selection have priority on their items first, and then if they happen to keep dropping then the classes with more options can take a shot at them. It sucks, I know; building up a PvE Elemental gear set is a long and painful process, but once you're finally over the hump it's a rewarding spec.

I don't know if I agree on that. It's a tough call. In theory clothies shud have priority on cloth but then you're basically relegating your boomkin and elemental shaman to have sucky dps until your clothies have every slot full.

How do elems keep hit?

For me it's been a mix of neck/rings, tier shoulders/legs, trinket. PvP cloak for a bit.

Wore Plush Sash of Guzbah for a long bit.

The only piece with hit is the gloves?
I beg to disagree.
According to my own armory profile:

Valorous Earthshatter Shoudlerpads: +37 hit
Valorous Earthshatter Kilt: +42 hit, +6 hit socket bonus

Non-cloth other items:
Thunderstorm Amulet (Anub'Rekhan): +28 hit (but has useless spirit)
Dark Shroud of the Scourge (Noth):+28 hit (useless spirit)
Ward of the Violet Citadel (EoH vendor): +38 hit
I also have the dagger off KT.

The tier helm can be socketed for hit.
ANY belt can be socketed for hit.
Bands of Mutual respect (mail, from Razuvious), can be socketed for hit.

I have to wonder why you're using a shield with no hit, when you can get an offhand with hit on it? If you need hit, you get gear with hit.

This is also reminding me that I need to swap out some of my hit gems for spellpower ones, since I'm at 389 hit.
