Right folks, I'm kind of at an impasse here...

I love my priest but now recognise that she is hopelessly undergeared for most things. My main problem is that I am rarely at home (due to work commitments) when my guild are instancing, so I am missing out on some great experience and loot.

If anyone could suggest something that I could replace/upgrade easily, I would be soooo grateful!

And while we are at it, I just respecced, and my glyphs are all wonky and my talents are not what they should be...go figure. NEVER respec at 2am after a few whiskies. Or a red wine or two. Throw in a beer and then you have the full picture.

Thanks for taking the time to flick through this - it would help me a lot guys 'n' gals!

I'd say do some quests around Icecrown and Storm Peaks; grab the blues that come from it and gear up enough so you can do PUG heroics.

This needs a change.

Also regular level 80 dungeons have gear to get you ready to do heroics and can help with the guild issue as well.

Good advice. I was able to have 260 hit by the time I finished leveling my SP, all with gear from leveling. He hasn't set foot inside a heroic to this day as my guild was happy to take me into Naxx immediately. It pays to be good to guildies.

(Aside: In fact, the night after I dinged I logged on to find an invite to a Naxx alt run and in my haste to get in there I never went and got my L78 and L80 training. Since it was an alt group it took us three nights to clear and I was pretty disappointed in my 1400dps. I laughed, hard, when I realized and so did our RL and GM when I told them.)

Also, check here for a nice compendium of pre-Naxx gear. Remember that you can make hit food (Warg Tartare is it?).

EDIT: You asked about your talents also. If it were me, I would drop the improved Spirit Tap and put those two into Darkness. I would also find another three points to max Darkness; in my opinion Darkness is more important than Meditation. I rarely had to stop and drink, just remember you have Dispersion and the pet to get mana back.

I recommend pugging. Please dont say you hate them. If you wait to run things only with your guildies, you will be missing on a lot of things. Meeting nice people, testing your skills better than you can inguild, better gear, better experience, fun, yes sometimes you can have more fun with a pug than with guildies.

Thanks guys 'n' girls, it's just been a bit hectic lately, so I am not really able to instance at the mo, even with PUG's...which I do NOT hate, just never really had fun with any of them.

I dunno, maybe it's because you get to know your own guild members, and kind of guess where they are going, what they are going to pull and the way they hit their abilities...

Or maybe because 80% of the folks that turn up seem to be half-assed about the whole thing.

Anyways, I know that I need to hit higher levels before I can get anywhere decent, but I just thought that I could get some feedback from you.

Because you know I value you, right?

DrFolly - your toon is looking fine for a level 77 geared priest. I totally understand the whole RL work thing and I get stuck in the same boat quite often thanks to my career. However, you are about right where I would expect you to be. If instance runs are an issue at lvl 77, one I would tell you to run just for xp and gear is VH (Violet Hold) in Dalaran. It is a relatively quick run, about 30 - 45 minutes at most, and you can get a good piece of gear there for your priest, plus xp is fast.

As for worrying about anything at level 77, just do as others suggested and quest in Stormpeak / Icecrown, when you get a chance run instances and be on the look out for any hit gear. That is going to be the main component you need to run heroics / raids at level 80.

Also for gearing up, you may want to respec your dual spec to Shadow / Disc. With the exception of hit rating, the required stats are the same. You look for crit, SP, and Intellect. Whereas with holy you need to add Spirit to the mix. This means you become much more effective while carrying only one set of gear. (Disc healing is very 5 man friendly, if not the best for healing 5 mans, because you are so efficient when you run as Disc. Of course I am partial to it so I will always plug it.)

Last, if regards to PuGs, you will know if it is a worthwhile group after about the first 3 or 4 pulls. If you get wiped or you are having aggro issues, well, it may not be worth your time. (Also, try to get a quick run or two of UK (Utgarde Keep) as the first boss (I think) drops a real nice blue dagger about 25% of the time that will immediately upgrade your spell power to 296... then when you ding 80 you can either save about 500 gold to spend for 400+ sp weapon on the AH or run Nexus for the Unrequited Mace to boost you into the 400+ sp range as well. All in all, your gear is about average for your level. Just look for hit for Shadow Priest.)

Thanks for all the info folks, I have been mucking about with Action Bars for the past few days...got that sorted so now may have a look at Discipline healing, see if that works out any better for me...

I dunno, it all looks kinda scary, I'm going to have to read through the Priest sticky at the top (and try to stop my eyes glazing over), see if I can make some sense of it all.

Or wait till 3.2, you'll be able to get your tier 8 gear from just running 5man heroics... Till then save up your emblems of Heroism, that way you can socket your tier gear with epic gems O_o
