Is it common for a shaman healer to take top heals in a 25 man naxx run? The raid i was in last night the shaman healer was 1mil heals over #2 at the end of 2 quarters. There where 3 pally healers and a priest healer. Just like to know if the shaman healer could realy pull heals like that or was the other just off.

Shamans were the only raid healers in TBC. So yes, in Wrath we can still top meters.
But don't rely on meters to see "Omgash he topped, he's best healer in the guild!" Healing meters are deceptive, heals are limited by class, raid composition, encounter, etc.

It's ridiculously easy for a shaman to top healing meters. CH spam will generally do that. But a shaman will also top overheals as well. A raid full of resto shamans will have problems -- we are lousy MT healers. You need a mix.
I wouldn't say we're lousy MT healers. I have no problems MT healing, but we are better are raid heals. It's not uncommon for shammies to top the meters. Quite frankly, if you know what you're doing, you won't be topping the overheals as well. The only class that would usually top the meters above me would be druids.
As Cestin said, don't think that just because someone is at the top of the meters means they're best. Quite honestly, it's a bit irritating when a healer requests the healing meter. As mentioned, it all would depend on the raid composition, what your duty is etc. Some days, I'll be at the top, while others I won't be as high due to whomever I'm healing not taking any damage.
I say, if a healer does their job and keeps whomever they're supposed to be watching, alive. Then they're doing a good job.

This is the only thing you need to know for healing. People who get into a competition over how much they heal are wasting their time. Focus on keeping Tanks(firstly) and DPS(secondly) alive and free of negative effects. If you can do that... you have succeeded.

Yes and no.
On one hand, what Nocturnal and Moonkissed are saying is true. What matters is whether or not people are regularly dying (within bounds of what a healer is capable of preventing) and, ultimately, whether or not the raid succeeds.

There are a lot of x-factors in this game that make this a very subjective answer. You could have had an excellent Shaman healer, or the other healers could have been slackers. It would also depend on the content at hand. Naxx is a playground for Resto Shaman where the raid damage is generally constant without being overbearing. Ulduar, on the other hand, is more touch and go and heavily favors Holy Priests and Resto Druids.

Oh most definitely. It's the ones that think they're 1337 because they're on top of the healing meters (when they're probably someone that's assigned to, say, the main tank... taking a lot of damage, while the raid isn't).
But I agree, it's useful in the sense to see how you're doing performance wise and if you're in need of work or need to contribute more.
