Mage macrosFollow

#1 Jun 09 2009 at 12:38 PM Rating: Decent
Hi, I'm just starting a Mage and I was wondering if anyone has links or could just post the macros they use. I'm currently at level 12 in alliance so if anyone wants to suggest good leveling areas, that would be great as well. I've been reading some great posts on here the last week on mages, so I dont think I'll be dissapointed. Thanks guys and I'll keep you posted with my progress.

Eh, you don't really need macros until you hit 80, then it's useful to make one so you can blow all your cooldowns on bosses with the press of a button.

That said, it IS useful to use your key bindings instead of point-clicking. I didn't discover this until I was in my mid sixties, and it really helped with speed. What I did was redo my movement keys to drop the two side movement directions and rebound a and d to the respective strafing keys. Keep w and s the same. Then use the former strafing keys, q and e, along with others you don't typically use, and bind all your spells to them, after your 1-4 or 1-5 spells. You shouldn't need anymore than the 1-5 spells for quite a while since you're only level 12, but keep this in mind for later.

If this doesn't make sense to you just let me know and I'll try and explain it a bit better.

1. Not a macro, but get "Control Freak" for all of your polymorph needs. It sets focus and casts poly, all of which you could do with a macro, but I'm too stupid to figure out.

2. /stopcasting
/cast counterspell

3. /stopcasting
/cast Ice Block

All I can think of at the moment. Obviously, you are not at a level where you need the last two.

Is it really that difficult to jump up and then press the corresponding key for said spell? It takes about half a second longer maybe? I suppose it could be useful, but since I never used macros while leveling I don't much see the point. :-p

Pigtails: hitting a key once is in fact easier than hitting the space bar, waiting to land then hitting a key :)

Neojk: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/controlfreak.aspx is where to go to get the addon.

A lot of times though that half second might be the difference between stopping a harmful spell and having it slip through (Counterspell macro).

Those are collections of Mage Macros

I personally use

Cast on mouseover or target

This macro will attempt to cast Counterspell on your mouseover target. If your mouse is not targeting someone, it will cast Counterspell on your current target instead.

It is also excellent for use with Ice Lance, as well as non-Mage abilities including Earth Shock, Blind, Warlock curses, Feral Charge etc.

#showtooltip Counterspell
/stopcasting
/cast [target=mouseover,exists][target=target,exists] Counterspell

Sheep Focus

Using focus to keep an eye on your sheep can make you more reliable cc while also maximizing your DPS during the sheep's lifespan. The following macro gives you a single button that automatically manages your sheep as a focus until it dies or until you manually replace it with your current target.

When you click, if you're not already watching a sheep, your current target is put in focus and Polymorphed. Any subsequent clicks will resheep your focus, leaving you free to target something else for damage. Once your sheep is killed, click again to set your current target as focus and sheep it.

If you need to sheep a different target before your current sheep is down, target the new sheep, hold shift and click to make the change.

#showtooltip [target=focus,harm] [] Polymorph
/stopcasting
/clearfocus [modifier:shift][target=focus,dead][target=focus,noexists]
/focus [target=focus,noexists]
/cast [target=focus] Polymorph

Good Luck

You seem the type to me who doesn't want to make a cancelcast macro because "jumping works just as well" =P. Seriously, have you tried it? I used to be like that until I tried out cancelcast macros and noticed their huge benefit. While it doesn't sound like much, being able to use one key to cancel all current actions and immediatly use that spell is a HUGE advantage over jumping or even tapping your strafe key quickly. I can assure you, once you've tried it, you'll never want to go back.
