So recently there was a mention of so-called AMS soaking and I just wanted to clarify what that is for the rest of the class.

Tool Tip wrote:
Surrounds the Death Knight in an Anti-Magic Shell, absorbing 75% of the damage dealt by harmful spells (up to a maximum of 100% of the Death Knight's health) and preventing application of harmful magical effects. Damage absorbed by Anti-Magic Shell energizes the Death Knight with additional runic power. Lasts 5 seconds.

From my parses it looks like ~2% damage absorbed conversion to RP. No big deal, right? Well, if you're stacking on the Enhance and Rogues, no, it's not a big deal. Normal raid damage isn't usually gonna give you enough RP back to write home about. But if you wanna walk on the wild side you can fill your RP bar faster than you can say "Eat double Frost Strikes Emalon you big dumb jerk!"

Here's what I do after dumping all my RP (save ~20): Pop Icebound Fortitude, AMS, and run head-long into a void zone/floor fire/bad stuff.

ZOMG did he say run INTO the stuff we've been yelled out for years to stay the hell out of???

Yep.

Razorscale's ground fire. Stormcaller's tendrils or overload. Cat ladies void zones. Ignis' flame jets thingy. Etc, etc (yes, there are other examples, but these are the "safest"). I purposely run into these for a free RP bar. Time it right and you can get a free 2-3 Frost Strikes or Death Coils every 45 seconds. With IBF your incoming damage is reasonably low but it's an important part of the equation. DO NOT PUT UNDUE PRESSURE ON YOUR HEALERS. Have Death Strike handy, y'know. Just in case =)

Hope that explains the process a bit more clearly. If anyone has questions please feel free to post them here.

Now, BRING ON THE PAIN!!!!

=D

Warning: alert your healers before you attempt this maneuver, as otherwise the raid will wipe when the healers have simultaneous heart attacks.

Can be used on Brunir of the Iron Council for overload.

If you're taking in that much damage you're doing it wrong. Don't linger in any damage effect just run through. After all, you're only "safe" for 5 seconds!

So, short video clip of AMS soak in Yogg-25, phase 1. Health and RP bars are the two left curves you see near the center of the screen. Note how much damage incoming there is first with (at 11 sec), then without AMS (at 21 sec). I purposely did not use IBF to highlight the difference. Pretty basic but figured I'd show it in action.
