How does flurry affect Windfury proc timer?Follow

Does anyone know how flurry affects windfury? Windfury can proc as quickly as every 3 seconds and it's better to equip relatively slow weapons (around 2.70/2.80) in each hand to get it to proc as often as possible. This is because a slower weapon and a faster weapon tend to conflict when you use windfury meaning you see it proc less. However, I was wondering whether flurry affects how often windfury does proc. Would it affect the balance of using two slower weapons? I have read the enhancement section on elitist jerks but some of the info on there is a little advanced and was wondering whether anyone knew more about this?

Windfury will not proc less with faster weapons. This is not the reason behind using slower weapons. The reason is that WF hits are going to be based on your weapons damage (not dps, but damage), same with stormstrike, and slower weapons will have higher weapon damage. This is why using slower weapons is better DPS, because faster weapons will do less WF and SS damage and with the 3 second ICD on WF your not going to get the added benefit of more WF procs on a faster weapon.

So as far as flurry goes, all it's doing is allowing you to get in some more white hits, it also will give you a slightly better chance of getting your next WF proc right at the 3 second mark since you will be attacking a little bit faster. Faster weapons will also give you a slight change to get a few extra procs during a boss, but your overall DPS will suffer do to their lower weapon damage.

From how I read the windfury description, it's just a flat 20% chance to proc with no cooldown.

when leveling (I'm currently using a bloodied arcanite reaper because it's the best weapon that will last more than a few levels) I have seen windfury procs back-to-back, they're VERY rare, but they do happen.

Flurry just means a few faster swings

Thanks for the replies, very useful to know. However, at the risk of sounding like an idiot, I dont really get, in light of what you've said, why it's better to have weapons that are as close to three seconds as possible, but not over? If the benefit of using slower weapons is simply bigger numbers based on the weapon damage, then why not go for the slowest ones possible, rather than the 2.70/2.80 speeds?

A 3 second weapon with even more weapon damage would probably raise your DPS a little bit, but that's going to be hard to do since there's no 1h weapons that slow. You don't want 2.7/2.8 speed weapons because it's a magic number, you want those because those are the slowest your going to find in the high iLevel item.

WF does have a internal cooldown, it's not on the tool tip like most, if not all other ICDs. Same with most proc trinkets. Since the WF animation lasts 3 seconds then that's what you have seen from time to time, a WF proc followed exactly 3 seconds later by another WF proc.
