Enhance PvP??Follow

#1 Jun 06 2009 at 4:03 AM Rating: Default
I leveled my shaman as enhance till 70 when i switched to elemental. Leveling I did a lot of pvp. At 70 i did mostly raiding and a small amount of arenas/Bgs. I didnt care for pvp too much as elemental, except for TS near the flag in the eye and watching a bunch of allies get blown off the sides. So I switched back to enhance. I pulled out all my old 70 gear and a couple blues that I had saved from NR dungeons. I tested out my spec and headed into a bg.

What I found out was my weapons sucked. I had a guildie make me 2 furious saronite beatsticks. I didnt look at the speed of them when he said he could make them. After a few fights I changed back to my old gladiators axe. My damage went up quite a bit. Since then Ive managed to get greed from CoS and craft myself the entire swiftarrow set, and purchase 1 of the pvp rings. 15 more emblems and I will have pride in my offhand. There are still more items i need to replace, and i am working on them, im just unlucky with drops.

With all these changes and upgrades ive made, I still feel like im a gimp. I remember being able to blow through masses of enemies and only having to heal a couple of times before moving on to the next wave of allies. Now it seems that every 3 swings and im casting a heal. I know its lvl 80 and my gear is still subpar, but I feel that if a lvl 50 ret pally came at me I would be severely beaten. Does this seem to be how it is for enhance now, or is it just my gear, or in my head? I normally open with SS then ES LL, drop a totem repeat SS ES LL. I purge like a bulimic, and use WF/FT on my weapons. I use the wolves when needed and change up my totems on the fly depending on what class im fighting. Although the only one that i drop for DK is cleansing. Everything else seems like a waste, because they usually kill me before I can get the third totem down if Im not fighting back.

Is there anything I chould change in my rotation [link=spec]http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=The+Venture+Co&n=Voltaic/[/link] or gear that would help me out?

Gear is going to play a really big part. To have any success as enh you'll need really good PvP gear mixed in with some top tier PvE gear.

Here's the issue with enh shams in PvP, melee. Think about the other classes you go "toe to toe" with. Ret pallys, warriors, and DKs. The basic fight is you two bashing away at eachother until one dies. Here's the problem, pallys, warriors, and DKs all will have more HP, deal more damage, and absorb more damage then you will. Needless to say, it's a uphill fight. Sure you can heal, and they can stun, silence, interupt, or MS you.

Rogues are a joke. Just get ready to hit release and rez. Especially with your gear now you'll die in a single stun lock if the rogue has anything close to decent gear. Feral druids are a little better but you won't be able to burst them down through their heals.

If you can get the jump on a caster you should be ok if you blow all your CDs. Wolves are great vs something trying to cast (like my mage... hate fighting enh shams). But if they see you it's going to be a kite-a-thon, enjoy.

With the right gear (see high rez, HP, and AP) enh can do pretty good with a healbot on you. The issue really isn't the damage you can put it, it's the fact that shams lack in the survivability department right now. You have to play much more defensive then your used to to succeed now days.

Good luck :)

Thanks for the info. Since your post Ive made a few upgrades. The most recent still arent showing up on the armory though. I still have a few more to go before I think Im ready to start arenas.

So my new question is, what resil score do i want to aim for before stepping into the arena? Right now im at 591, and that should be going up even more over the next few days as I continue to grind honor and WG marks.

Also Ive been going over my spec. Im thinking about shifting some points over to get frost shock to freeze people. Is this a good move or should I just keep my spec the way it is? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advise.

For you spec I'd take out your points in Elemental Devastation and Reverberation and put them in Frozen Power, Guardian Totems, and Earthen Power. PvPing without Earthen Power is just plain wrong, such a good talent. Should look like this

Resil is not your biggest priority. With your blue crafted PvP gear you may be able to live for a extra hit, but you won't be able to kill anyone with your low damage. You'd be better off running naxx 10 and getting your heros set, val set will actually give you MORE HP then the crafted or savage PvP sets. If that's not a option then just keep grinding out until you can at least get hateful.

Raiding is out due to a baby on the way and preparing to move, I just dont have the hours to dedicate to a raid. I have just started to phase out my blue gear for the Hateful set, I just got the legs earlier today. I will check out that spec and see how it works. My first attempt at the spec was rushed by wife and friends waiting for me, so I just went with what I remember from the spec back in TBC. Thanks again for the tips, Im always open to suggestions and willing to change up my playstyle. If theres anything else im missing or might want to change feel free to let me know.

This is really the biggest point. Keep grinding the WG marks, picking up new level 80 epics from the PvP vendors, and hopefully running VoA and OS. Those are the easiest and fastest raids for picking up gear, even the PvE gear you get from these encounters is worth using over the blues you have now.

Aside from that, make sure you recognize your limitations in BGs and play more tactically. As far as arena matches go, you probably won't do great with gear like that but you can still get your rating up a bit and get in some matches.
