Low-level healing... (and low priority :-))Follow

Hello All,

I'm turning to the Alla Druid community for a low-priority question about pvp healing at level 39 as most of the resources and guides here and on other sites focus on end game (or at least on post-tree-of-life life...)

I have been slowly leveling my druid (and loving every minute of it). I'm now at level 39, having spent the past 19 levels or so primarily as a cat with a few bear instance runs...

But the truth is that I'm becoming increasingly interested in healing, and being somewhat of a perfectionist I decided that I would hang out for a bit in the BGs to just get a basic feel for the mechanics before leveling up as feral and just jumping into situations where the expectations are greater...I've never done any healing on any character to this point, so I like the idea of limited options while I learn :-)

Having surveyed the BGs on my group (Ruin), I haven't seen many resto druids at 39, but in all honesty I was getting carved up by rogues and hunters too quickly to really pay that much attention. I know that I lack access to virtually all of the good abilities at this level, and it seems as a total noob here that my best options would be speccing for mana efficiency and using Healing Touch for flag carriers and tossing out HoT's for people fighting on nodes, but like I said, I know next to nothing about this. I'm really in it to improve my reflexes the hard way :-)

So, if any of you know of a good resource that would address this specific question that would be much appreciated, or if any of you want to reach back into the distant past and throw a little expertise my way, I'd love that too!

Thanks so much and have a great/safe weekend...

Healing in BGs isn't really like it is in instances. Instances have one maybe two people taking damage at a time, BGs you virtually have damage everywhere at once. A good way to practice would be to find someone to team up with and take on some harder quests, or even just get into an instance. Either let people know you're new to healing, or just run with it and let them nerdrage senselessly at your mistakes.

Even then I'm not sure that I'd take up healing before I could get ToL. It really changes how you play.

You will indeed rarely find other healers in lower level BG's as people are usually too busy tweaking for maximum damage output or simply taking a break from leveling, usually done with a DPS spec of course.

I suppose there are 2 paths you can take. The first one involves emphasis on Healing Touch, improving it as much as possible through talents and glyphs, and the second relies more heavily on Rejuv and Regrowth. I personally prefer the latter, especially in PvP where shorter casts will allow you better mobility.

Your spec would pretty much pick everything that helps mana efficiency, Rejuv and Regrowth. Healing Touch talents can be used as decent filler too, since you might have to use it from time to time. Glyphs would likely be Rejuv and Regrowth (you can use 2 major at 39, right?).

Whether you are escorting a flag carrier or keeping node defenders up, keep Rejuv rolling on them if they are being attacked and use Regrowth as a more direct heal. Coupled with the glyph it can do a decent job keeping them alive. Arguably, though, with twinks ever so prospering, even great use of your heals might not be enough to keep your teammates alive through high damage unless you actually tweak yourself too.

Pretty much all I can say with my limited experience. If you have more specific questions, feel free to ask.

Not expertise really, but some of my experiences.

I did a decent number of BGs myself back in the days when my druid was in the 20s and 30s. One thing you might want to consider is trying it in a Balance Spec. I did this and found that there was enough synergy between the two trees at a low level I was able to heal well. Mana regen wasn't really an issue for me; I found it difficult to live long in a normal BG PuG anyway.

The advantage of balance is that you'll gain an extra DoT (Insect Swarm) which, if i remember right, also doesn't suffer from the "not facing the target" problem, great in PvP. I also used it as an stealthier attack at times; nothing screams "a druid is attacking me" like a moonfire burst, and IS often seemed to go unnoticed. This was also my reasoning for Starfire over Wrath, for times when I had the chance to hold still. Wrath spam is a giant "please kill me" sign with an arrow pointing at you. ;)

Healing was typically RJ to HoT up everyone I could, or while moving, and RG when I had time to stand and heal.

I'd imagine in Resto you'd have access to the NS+HT instant-cast big heal though, or the glyphed version Selverein was talking about. I could see not wanting to give that up; but i enjoyed the utility of both being able to do some damage and heal as well.

Either way without the extra armor from ToL/Boomkin I found myself moving around a lot; was just too squishy to stay in one place long. Roots and travel form were my friends, as I often found myself kiting much like a clothie or hunter.
