0/41/30 build helpFollow

#1 Jun 04 2009 at 11:55 AM Rating: Decent
I have just recently dusted off my Warlock Manchetick. I've been doing a fair bit of research on different specs and i'm thinking of testing out 0/41/30 as it is laid out by Fallenman in the Warlock's Den:

Pet = Felguard
Glyphs
-Incinerate
-Lifetap
-Felguard

Rotation Prioritization
Immolate, Curse of Agony, Corruption, Incinerate. *

*You will use Soulfire whenever decimation is up once the boss goes below 30%. If you can get far enough away to use 1:1 weaving then do so, but don't sacrifice a greater buff (e.g. Hodir lightwell buff) to do so. It's only about 150dps loss to do 2:1 weaving.

I do however have some questions. For instance, why would I want to take Shadowburn if it's not part of my rotation? Also, as a raider, do I really need Fel Domination and Master Summoner?

So I was thinking of doing something along these lines: My Idea

My thinking is that it would allow me to rock either the imp or the felguard depending on the situation I'm in. My rotation would pretty much be Corr, CoA, Imm, Incinerate repeatedly while keeping debuffs up until below 30% and then 2:1 with Soulfire.

I would appreciate any feedback you might be able to provide. Oh...and I know I'm not lvl 80 yet...I'm planning ahead.

Thanks in advance!

The fel domination and master summoner are your back up talents in case your pet dies on a boss. If your pet dies midway through a boss an instant summon or even the 6 second summon is better than the 10 seconds summon or going the rest of the fight with-out a pet. Naturally, if your pet dies with around a minute left it won't much matter as you can use the Infernal, but if you have more than a minute and a half or so in the fight your gunna want to get your minion back out. A 10 second cast in the middle of a fight sucks.

I first want to ask if anyone actually uses Decimation, and has tested it against similar talent specializations without it to see if the DPS is any better? Soul Fire has always been a crappy spell, and I never use it or know anyone that seriously does.

I havent tried Shadow Burn yet, but it looks like one of those talents where you have to choose to dump a point in order to move deeper into that tree, unless you PVP, in which case it looks really cool.
I have not used Master Summoner since before I was 70. It's a waste of points if you are not in a situation where you are constantly needing to replace a minion (like PVP). Summoning a new minion during a boss fight is uncommon, and I have never felt justified in moving two talents points to make that happen a little more faster. Fel Domination should be sufficient, unless really do not care where you dump those two talents-- I put them in Improved Health Funnel, but some might also choose Improved Healthstone instead.

While soul fire is generally a bad spell to cast decimation completely changes that. By making it cast 60% faster you effectively make it a very high DPS spell. For me it hits for roughly 8-9k on average and has a cast time of 1.3 seconds. This gives it a DPSC of 6538, far higher then sbolt. Now assuming you go down deep enough into demo to get felguard, really the only time you'd take the talent demo tactics, which you will already have at least 3 points in. Given this its a choice between 4% crit and a few hundred DPS or more. Decimation is the obvious choice.

you DON'T use shadowburn. it's just a filler talent. it's taken 'cos there's nothing else worthwhile to take.. shadowburn always has been, and always will be a pvp/finisher ability.. it has no place in a dps rotation EVER.

about decimation.. it's one of the most powerful dps increasing talents in the game, soulfire is the hardest hitting ability in the game and this talent makes it worthwhile to cast in raids, achieving a 1:1 SF/inc weaving will massively increase your dps and dmg done come 35%.... BUT the 0/41/30 spec isn't currently the top dps spec in raids... that title goes to 0/13/55(+3), which does INSANE damage in all scenarios (check out my signature, Taoquitok, to look at the spec/glyphs etc...)

the 0/41/30 spec is a fun spec to play. admittedly it's a bit boring before 35%, but after that it gets fun, and challenging 'cos the dmg output varies alot depending on how well you time your decimate weaving and on where in the cycle you decide to renew dots.. to put it simply though, you should ALWAYS renew dots after casting soulfire, that way you only have to cast 1 incinerate before your next soulfire to get back into the 1:1 rotation.

So I decided to go ahead and test out my idea (see above). I'm also dual specced and have the cookie cutter 0/13/58 build. I find that with my idea, I'm not missing the shadowburn or fel domination talents, and it's nice to have the option to bring out the imp. However, with the imp out instead of the Felguard, my dps does go down by about 200.

I have found that my version of the 0/41/30 spec is doing about 400 more dps than the other spec. From what I've read, it's probably due to my gear. I understand that the heavy destro spec scales better with gear. Since I'm only lvl 79 and wearing blues and greens, I'm finding that the decimation spec is the best....for now.

And regarding decimation itself, it really is powerful. Soulfire by itself is a crappy spell. But shooting it out in 1.5 seconds is amazing...especially when it crits.

For now I'm going to continue to use my version of 0/41/30. As I get better gear, it's a quick switch to use the Destro build.
