Spirit useless?Follow

I was getting enhancements on my gear when someone told me that Spirit was useless for elemental shammys. This doesn't seem to make much sense to me-spirit = mana regen so it would make sense it'd be an added bonus. Yes Water shield rocks but it helps to have that extra mana gain. The funny thing is that it all started from a question of whether I should use a 2h or 1h and shield (which had a nice spirit bonus on it and then I added the mana/health regen to it)....

So really, is spirit useless? And is a 2h better than a 1h with +SP and shield with those stats?

And no, I haven't set up the online armory thingy, sorry.

Spirit is pretty useless for a shaman. We, like pallys, get our mana regen from MP5 where as druids, locks, and priests get regen from spi (and mages, to a point... different rant). If your level 80 you won't find much, if any mail armor with spi on it. Also, for endgame raiding, ele shams get most of their mana from talents and buffs like holy pallys do. Mana regen isn't much of a issue unless your resto.

As far as 2h vs 1h+shield goes, it depends on the stats. I'm really hoping your 2h weapon is a staff with SP on it. If it's some random mace with melee stats then it's a waste. At 80 there's a large amount of 1h+shield combos you can use.

Since there is no shields past level 60 with spi on it though, I'm assuming that your at a low level. So really it just comes down to spellpower. If you are going to enchant a shield, however, enchant it with int, it's a better overall stat for shields.

Dark pretty much summed it up. Spirit for shamans only work outside of the 5 second rule when we're not in combat. Since we're usually constantly casting, MP5 is much better for us.

And as Dark had said, mana regen for me is more of an issue when I'm resto than when I'm elemental. If you switch between the specs often, you'll see what I mean. With my mp5 when healing, my mana doesn't go down too fast due to it, and if I'm specced elemental, my mana pretty much doesn't move.

Spirit can be "okay" if you're just standing there and not casting (and you're low on mana), but it's not a BIG stat that we need.

I was reading on mmo-champion that they may be changing this rule in the future, but for now, stay away from Spirit.

I will try to find the link.

I couldn't find it anywhere...maybe I dreamed it. Anyway, stick with Mp5 if you're Resto, Elemental doesn't really need much mana regen besides the built-in ones.

I was looking at the Spirit bit alongside the MP5 and, from some back of the envelope math, it seems like MP5 is MUCH MUCH better than Spirit. You need something ridiculous in spirit (~30) to equal every 1 MP/5.

So I think that is more what should be focused on.

MP5 just gives you more bang for your buck. This stems from the fact that the elemental mana regen (Unrelenting Storm) is based off of your intellect as opposed to your spirit. Thus Spirit only gives Mana Regen when you are outside of the 5 Sec Rule, while MP5 and bonuses to your Intellect give MP all the time.

Correct me if I am wrong about that.

Ok, so I hear you on the Spirit bit. Where do you get MP5 enchants then? Or items?

There's no MP5 gear until you get to Outlands and you'll start to see a lot more of it when you get to Northrend. The only good MP5 enchant is one of the restore mana prime ones for the chest. Unless your planning on twinking or an enchanter yourself, there's no reason to enchant your gear as you are leveling because you'll replace it quickly. If you are going to enchant gear and your leveling as ele or resto then use spellpower and intellect enchants for now.

There is a fair bit of Mp5 gear in azeroth, it's just worth chasing down anymore. Ofc if you manage to get it while being boosted then hells yes, go for it.
