Blizzard Crit QuestionFollow

I'm pretty confused now after everything that I've read. I leveled frost, so I always had points in "Improved Blizzard", but now I'd like to heroic/raid some as FFB.
"World in Flames" says it increases my crit chance with blizzard. On the other hand, I keep reading that in order for Blizzard to crit, you have to have at least one point in imp. blizzard.

Sooooo.... do I still need to put that point in imp. bliz. to make use of the additional crit chance of "world in flames", or can I safely move that point out of imp. blizzard and put it somewhere (more?) useful?

Again, this is for the heroic/raiding spec, not my day-in-day-out daily spec.

Thank you all in advance for clarifying this for me.

You don't have to have a point in improved blizzard to crit. You need a point in improved blizzard to apply a chill effect. The importance of this for a frost mage is to have your blizzard spell take advantage of frostbite/shatter. Once you have all three talents then you have a dramatically increased crit change, putting points in World in Flames will increase your crit chance even further

I'm curious, where are you reading that? I'd love to go there and disabuse some people of a silly notion.

This sounds like it involves a baseball bat or a sharp stick. Can I watch? Smiley: grin

I'd suggest frostbolt rank 1 kiting and then ice-lancing - takes a while >:)

Thanks for clearing that up. Sorry, I don't recall where I read that - I went through a ton of sites when I started being more serious about the mage and only remembered that piece of (mis)information because it didn't line up with the tooltip. Having leveled frost, I just always had points in it and never thought much about it, until now where I've dual-specced into FFB (for bosses or raids).

I guess that leads me to the question: Should I have full "World in Flames", or move one point from it over to imp. Blizzard?

If you don't have the shatter talent it doesn't really matter dps-wise if the guys are getting frozen to the ground.
