Moonkin and heroicsFollow

I've had the chance to do a few heroics as moonkin now and I really do need to clean up my rotation a little more and pick up some better gear.

Just a few things I'd like to ask the resident Alla moonkin (or is that moonkins?)

(1) how many mobs do I need before Hurricane becomes efficient for my mana and dps? Three?

(2) do you faerie fire on trash mobs? I know it helps our melee friends but when mobs drop after four or five seconds each it seems a waste of a GCD to ff each one.

(3) after just switching over from cat am I the only one who is so frustrated at how slow moonkin seem to move?

(4) I really find the instant, up-front punch of an un-glyphed Moonfire helpful in certain situations, am I a Bad Moonkin if I keep it un-glyphed?

Hi there.

1. I would say 3, but I don't pay much attention to it in Heroics. Aoe-ing almost every pull is ok, but will strain your mana if you don't drink. So i do it on 3/4 pulls, depending on mob's in the pack. Sometimes taking one (ww/caster) out first and aoe-ing the rest.

2. I don't FF alot in heroics, especially on trash. Waste of time, unless you have a fairly new and undergeared group, where every fight is a challenge.

3. You have a big ***. I am not frustrated at all, since we have ranged attacks we don´t have to close in on the mob.

4. Of course not. Play like you want and what suits you the best. PVPing Moonkins will probably have moonfire unglyphed aswell.

enjoy!

Faeire Fire is in general, a raid talent. No one should be in dire need of that 3 percent hit in a heroic. It doesnt hurt of bosses because of the extra bonus you get, but dont bother on trash. At least 3 for hurricane, although I tend to save it for 4 mobs pulls if Im with a decent DPS group. That third mob will go down so fast and you'll be down to 2 before hurricane finishes, so it's not worth it unless the other DPSers happen to be fellow AOE spammers and you have no focus fire going on. Dont worry too much about the glyph yet. By the time you're raiding I'd probably recommend it, but it's also not one of those "GET IT NAO!" glyphs.

Three or more. Otherwise you're better off using single target casting against 2 or less.

No, don't FF anything but bosses and mini bosses. If your melee has at least 3% they will be able to hit anything in a heroic so if they don't have that minimal amount of hit, they're just either dumb, or screwed.

To alleviate this you could enchant your boots with Tuskarr's Vitality. But you'd be much better off using Icewalker for hit and crit. This is something you're going to have to get used too. After awhile you will get used to it and it won't bother you.

This happens to me a lot when I play my rogue and then go to my druid, not having Fleet Footed kinda sucks but, yeah.

If you need burst, you could use Typhoon if you have it. Otherwise go with Glyph of Starfire, Glyph of Insect Swarm and Glyph of Moonfire.

And, pending on what your gear looks like, use a build like this one!

If will offer you the most bang for your buck and give you the highest amount of mana regen. You're probably gonna ask why don't you pick up 3/3 Imp FF or 3/3 Imp IS instead of Typhoon and Starfall. The reason is with Balance of Power talents you're hit capped for heroics so you don't need the hit from FF so you can get 1 very nice situational spell that is good for burst and you pick up starfall for extra damage against bosses.

Coming from a bear who has tuskarr's: I don't really notice the speed difference with it unless I'm running side by side with someone who doesn't have it, so I wouldn't necessarily spring for that as a fix for kittyspeed addiction. A loss of 30% speed increase is pretty significant and hard to overcome. I don't notice it *too* much these days since I'm in swift flight just about anywhere that I'm not actively killing something, so it hardly causes me grief, but on the times that I've specced away from Feral Instincts I've definitely noticed the loss of speed when in cat (particularly while prowling).

I love Tuskarr's Vitality .

If you afford to lose whatever other stat you gain get it.

On boss fights with any significant amount of movement get it, you will gain more DPS by moving faster than a bit of crit/hit. Just because it will increase your up time by that much. Time spent moving is time not casting...

Oh, I still use it on account of the math/logic of it for sure, I just don't perceptibly SEE the difference like Feral Instinct.

FI is a bigger boost.

I would honestly recommend it for all classes/specs tbh.

Guys and gals, I've reached the point where I think its worthwhile asking for a check on my gear. I've been upgrading as per the gear guides on WowInsider and Grey Matter, and while I still have a few slots to go (gloves! bah), I also have a few (5man-heroic) BiS items.

How much more do I need to improve before I can look at the next step after heroics? I know my hit is too low, I'm working on that, but my spellpower and crit also look too low to my eyes. What are my targets.

Me.

Also, what kind of DPS should I be doing with that gear? No matter what I do I seem to be averaging around 1100-1300dps. I'm usually third or fourth on my recount. :( I need to improve.

I'm saving up my emblems for the Sundial of the Exalted and I'll have the exalted Wyrmrest shoes by the end of the week.

To be honest this is the first time I've ever hit a level cap of WoW and experienced an end-game while it has still been relevant, and so I've never bothered to gem a piece of gear before... Should I gem for hit, or attend to another stat first.

p.s its kind nerve-wracking putting your armory up, hey? Like an artist before an exhibition. Although I don't claim to be making art when I play my druid. :)

1) Pick up a pair of Ebonweave gloves off the AH, those are a solid boost and give you a fair amount of hit rating.
2) Use some of those emblems you have now to get the heroic level idol.
3) Brilliant (?) Spellthread is better for legs.
4) Get an Eternal Belt Buckle for that belt.

The hit cap should not be hard to hit. Reverred with Kirin Tor will get you the [Flameheart Spell Scalpel], 25 heroic badges will get you [Ward of the Violet Citadel] to go with it. 25 more badges will get [Encircling Burnished Gold Chains], or you can do a quest chain in Icecrown for [Emeline's Locket]. Getting the trinket Spartakos just mentioned will also help, and there is also the [Mark of the War Prisoner] from Violet Hold heroic. There are a couple of good rings to get, including [The Prospector's Prize] from Krystallus in Halls of Stone, and [Ring of Northern Tears] (Jewelcrafting). At Ebon Blade Honoured you can get the [Dark Soldier Cape].

Between these items, you can get 72 + 25 + 55 + 73 + 51 + 31 + 29 hit rating, or 336 hit rating total. Add on a 20 hit rating enchant to gloves, along with any +hit on normal armour and you should easily be able to hit the cap in a pre-raid set of gear.

I believe his number is a little high now. Once you're ready to move into raiding, you should really respec and put three points in Improved Faerie Fire. Now that it has a 5 minute timer, there's really no reason to not take it. You only have to gear for 10% hit because you get another 4% from one of your talents.

I'm not sure that your DPS should be pushing that much higher in gear of your level. What's your rotation?

Get your hodir rep going so you can get some shoulder enchants.

Get your hit rating to 10% its like 264 (roughly may be 1 or 2 points higher than that).

Gem for hit until you get to 10% once you reach that you can start gemming for spell power and haste.

Basically keep running heroics until you've met the hit cap started getting heroic badge gear and then start working into 10 mans when you can. You seem to be on the right track.
