Are Boomkins Wanted?Follow

#1 May 23 2009 at 10:18 PM Rating: Decent
Hey i was just wondering if boomkins are wanted in raids or if its really hard to find groups.

thanks in advance

Right now I don't think there really is any class/spec that isn't wanted in raids besides DKs due to how many of them they are. Boomkins do make a very beneficial class to the raid, you won't top the meters but you will significantly boost the rest of the raid's dps with the crit aura and the earth and moon debuff. Plus innervate and battle rez are always invaluable in a raid situation.

Well bear just summed it up.

Boomkins are a utility class, it isn't the giant deeps we being, though we can do some pretty ******* amazing dps. We dual spec and all that jazz its an easy switch to another spec thats necessary for a fight.

As a Mage I have to tell you right now:
BOOMKIN = LOVE

Not only can a Boomkin pull insane DPS, but the benefit of Gift of the Wild(if no other Druid) but most importantly your aura of +5% Crit.

While Boomkin DPS is pretty amazing, the DPS increase of +5% crit to all casters in raid is massive.

To me, a Boomkin is right on the level with a Shaman in terms of utility if not slightly higher(since Heroism is ~35sec every 10min, and Boomkin crit is forever). I personally hate raiding without both.

Forgot to mention boomkins give 3% haste with their aura as well.

I beg to differ to those who say moonkins don't bring the dps.

fewyn, though I lack a wws report I've done over 7k on XT and a straight tank n spank I was doing 5k on patchwerk pre Uld.

Boomkins do badass dps.

Edit: What in gods name are you doing back in naxx btw?

Not enough people showing up on Thursdays :( and a few of our newer members could use a lulzing through for more gear.

Not a big fan of haste personally since Wrath is already a 1s cast, I personally am using the solar eclipse atm seems to do me a lot better dps in all these movement intensive fights in Ulduar.

Yeah you're probably right seeing as the 2 set bonus makes it a lot more viable especially for ulduar.

But...

Getting hero, my trinket (more sp when I use it), a haste pot all in one hero on my lunar eclipse with my haste starfire is at a 1.3 second cast time so yeah... You know where this is going. I do A LOT of damage REALLY fast.

Naxx I could easily be in the top 7 dps because its lawlramus, but in Ulduar I'm more of a utility player. I do a decent amount of dps and I have a much better sense of control when it comes to things like off healing when a healer goes down.

Plus with all of that I've been healing a bunch lately in Ulduar so yeah, I have yet to dps any of the keepers besides one time on Hodir.

Ideally, every raid should have one druid of each spec for the bonuses in physical crit, spell crit, and the awesomeness of tree heals.

Plus, Brez is godly. If forced to pick between an equally-geared boomkin and mage for a final slot most raids would probably pick the crit chicken, were they lacking in either class.

Moonkin DPS lives and dies based on how much movement you do during a fight. During any fight that I have to cast Rebirth or move often my damage drops a lot. Always seems that Eclipse procs at the worse time, too. Kologarn starts shooting me with eye lasers just as Eclipse procs or Auriaya fears me or some adds are sneaking up on me during XXT or lighting bolts are toasting my butt during Thorim. You get the idea. I seriously hate Eclipse in its current form.

Once you get used to the rotation, Moonkins can be top 5 in Damage done/DPS with a little help from RNG.

Aside from DPS, Moonkins do bring a lot to the raid. More so now that Innervate is useful to any mana class after its most recent change.

I usually raid with a moonkin from an allied guild. His DPS fluctuates based on movement and if he is helping out with heals. We usually have a mage and lock as well so regardless they love his aura.

But typically if you have a boomkin and a mage all ready and have to grab either a mage or a boomikn you typically will get a second mage. They tend to have higher DPS. Unless you want the chicken for an extra brez or off healing. Or just don't like mages. Which is fine. ;)

Boomkins provide like 5 buffs to the raid. Paw, 13 percent bonus spell damage, 5 percent spell crit, 3 percent haste, 3 percent hit (well, provided you took the talent). Granted, most of those buffs are also provided by other classes, but very few classes provide the amount of raid wide buffs. In a 25 man your buffs will likely be provided by others, but in 10 mans they can fill in a lot of gaps. Not to mention good DPS and ulitity like combat rez and innervate, the latter of which is more useful than it was already.

It is, however as mentioned, a class you dont see stacked too much. But if you're a good moonkin, chances are you'll bring enough DPS to be added purely for that rather than the buffs.

I crit starfire last night for 18437 against one of Freya's Keepers. EIGHTEEN THOUSAND. I had no buff amplifications from a boss whatsoever we were on the keeper. I saw it pop up on my MSBT and about **** myself.

That was the hardest hitting spell cast I've ever done outside of boss fights that increase damage.

When I get back home, which may be tomorrow, I'll post the screen shot of it from recount.

I was in a 25 man naxx last night and we had 3 boomkins, 4 trees, and me as the 5th healer on my disc priest.

I see and run with boomkins all the time. What I don't see so much anymore, at least on my server, is warlocks. Where did all the locks go???

/sigh

Anyway, boomkins are out there in force on my server and they are pretty awesome.

Inorite? I don't even see them in wintergrasp much, which is where I'd expect to actually see some at some point. And god help you if you need one for a city raid or something :(

We still have a bunch on my server.

Not as common as other classes but still a decent amount. One of the guys I've been playing with since I started is a lock so kind of skews my perception.

Just seemed like you'd always run into one in a pvp pack during BGs or something. Probably just confirmation bias playing tricks on me, but still. It's different.
