So I am fully dual specced and just starting to run Heroics after a while of being away. My question is that as I was always a SP in groups, I am now splitting time between DPS and Disc healing pending what the run needs.

To that effect, I just DL'd GRID as it has been recommended by many as a great healing tool, however, I cannot find any useful guides on how to effectively set it up for a priest and to use it as a tool to help and not just clutter my screen.

Anyone have any good tips on setting up GRID or can point me in the right direction. Secondly, is GRID still one of the better tools out there for healing? If you get the chance let me know as I will appreciate it.

I use grid on my baby disc priest.

I haven't gotten around to removing the pit unit frames but will.

The set up isn't that bad.

I am at work so can't be as helpful as I would like.

But I remember having to set up under what conditions Grid appears.

Also it is setting Auras if I recall. They have an area where it has things like right top corner and what not. If you go to right top corner there will be a huge list on various buffs, debuffs and spells.

I found one or two that didn't have anything beyond isDead and changed lower left corner to indicate PW:S and lower right corner to be Renew.

You will also want to make sure Grid is showing health by changing the amount of color in the little boxes, showing incoming heals is also crucial.

I will check when I get home and give better less rambling advice.

This should get you started with Grid.

Layout control

Frame control. This is where you set indicators for relevant stuff.

The UI.

Hope that helps. Plus the link dadanox gave is sweet.

I dont know if people just don't try other healing addons or if they don't know them.

I'm sayinf this because recently I found the addon that suits me more isn't anything near grid or healbot, it's a similar one called VuhDo.

Imo it's greatly suited to heal 25s (that's what i heal), since I still use healbot for 5 man and 10 man stuff. VuhDo lets you separate people by roles and sort the bars as you want, also giving you the possibility to make it show HoTs, other people heals and so on...

I heal with a druid, so I cant really say I tried it on a priest, but I talked about it to a friend priest that raids with me and he says it's the best he's ever used as well...

JUst giving my 2cents about a diffrent option for all you healers out there!

PS:my priest is getting to 80 fast so I think I'll be reading this forums more often :)

Good to know, I'll give it a try this weekend and see if I can wrap my simple mind around it :) Will it show who is in/out of range of me and will mouseover macros work with it?

I like trying new addons. I'll often spend an hour just looking for something new and useful. I think I loaded Vuhdo once. Grid really does what I need, but it looks like it would be fun to give VuhDo another try.

Hell, dadanox, I don't know how I missed that thread and your post. Simply awesome.

That's coming from someone who is sold on GRID and is comfortable enough with it to customize it on the fly. Not only can a person new to GRID learn from your post, but people experienced with it can too. I am most impressed with your ideas for customization and how you show things. Here's a great big THANKS from me.

OP: When you get comfortable with it you'll be able to configure it to show any spell cast by any boss in the game. When we first started in Naxx there was no add-on to help with KT's Frost Blast, and GRID hadn't been updated yet to show it; but I was able to quickly add it and then tell GRID how to show it. It is definitely a great healing add-on, stick with it.

In fact, I and a few others in my guild use it on our non-healing toons too, just to see the status of people in the group. It is definitely my favorite add-on.

P.S., if you have no objection dadanox, I'd like to cut and paste your post into our guild forum.

Just an update, I have checked out other options, but GRID is working great for me and I would now highly recommend it.

It is definitely not intuitive to set up, but with the instructions provided here now, it was a breeze. I added Clique to it as well, and it makes healing so much easier combined with dispelling as needed.

Being that I am a more casual gamer due to work schedules, I fought against all these add ons, but now that I am using them I cannot stop trying out alternative methods and so forth. The only downside is that sometimes I get so focused on Grid healing that I am barely looking at the screen. (Darn pretty green colors draw me right in...)

Regardless, thank again to eveyone that posted as your advice truly helped and I am way more comfortable in a healing role now then ever before.

I have that problem. It takes a conscious effort on my part to watch for warning messages that may have an impact on the raid.

I settled on Deadly Boss Mods as my raid info addon. I have all the bars and fonts extremely large to grab my attention away from grid.

Two other addons that help me get information are Power Auras Classic, and Satrina Buff Frames. With sbf, I have my debuffs much larger than the blizzard debuff icons, with their name, a count, and timer shown.

I think its the main problem for almost every healer that we can get too focused on the health bars! Like Dadnox says, you've just got to make it very obvious when for example you have procs or need to move fast. I too use power auras and deadly boss mods, couldn't do without them. There are various other options out there that do similar things.
