Well I dual specced two nights ago and am now Disc/Shadow. Until now I've been Disc so all my gear is aimed at healing rather than dps, I have no clue about rotation for Shadow or anything. Doing my Sons of Hodir dailys not long ago, figuring I'd play around with Shadow spec, see what was what and all that and another shadow priest started insulting me! Apparently my gear is awful, I should never have got to 80 and I'm a disgrace to priests all over wow Smiley: lol Now I admit I'm currently hopeless at shadow, my dps is actually higher in discipline spec Smiley: rolleyes but a disgrace to priests all over wow?? That's going a little far! The 10 minutes or so they spent calling me names would have been better spent giving a little advice but ah well.

Anyway, I noticed our sticky for Shadow priests is really out of date and have gone across to shadowpriest.com to take this priests advice and L2P nub! I promise I shall not disgrace the priestly community for any longer than I have to Smiley: grin

Seriously, for me to something like that to another priest, they would have to be:

1- A jerk.
2- Acting better than everyone else or in my group
3- Doing a really, really bad job in the group after ignoring any advice I gave.

I try to approach things more... tactfully. I would first at least try to help (rotation advice, gear tips, etc.) If they acted like I was 'the nub' I would either ignore the, or bring them down a few pegs.

P.S. There's a thread that I started asking about DPS help, you can also pick up some helpful tips there from some of the posters if you need.

I'm much better at my main spec of disc, than I am at shadow. I like shadow for doing dailies, but I seem to have a hard time just hitting 2k dps.

As far as the other player, he sounds like a jerk to me.

I'm having a hard time getting my dps above 700 against non elites in shadow spec Smiley: blush I don't plan on raiding as dps so I'm not too worried about really high dps but something a little higher would be nice. The lack of downtime makes my dailies, rep grind etc go a hell of a lot faster though.

Same. If I see someone struggling with a class I know a little about I'll do what I can to help or direct them to sites that can help. It's a better use of my time than name calling Smiley: grin

Sezmo - Your dps should be in the 1700 range is probably about right or slightly under, but remember if you are using Shadow Spec for dailies you are fighting like lvl / lower mobs that are non elites. You will not even need to full dot them to kill them quickly so you will not get the benefit to your dps of having 3 dots ticking, MB and MF firing off. Most of the time on trash mobs I will cast VT, SWP, Mind Blast, and wand them down in less than 5 seconds.

One thing I would ask is what is your spellpower, and your shadow spec. Hopefully you maintained Improved Inner Fire in both of your specs for the added spell power. I am in the same boat as you, and a lot of your gear should be decent for both specs as Disc / Shadow. Holy is where you see the real discrepancy in gear. So I would not worry about it and if this other person is so much better, did you look at his or her profile to see why.

If they are some elite fascist then I can see them being ignorant, but I have had some say this to me and I preceeded to crush them even though their gear was superior. Dueling or PvP, I never hesitate to pop every cooldown and use pots, whereas some of the elitist types feel this is cheating. I just call it winning... with less gear to boot.

**I had to edit this, I realized my 1 key was busted on my work PC when doing a spreadsheet... oops... so yea, it should have read 1700 dps and not 700, but it looks like you also found out the main issue...**

Well now I do feel like a noob. When I dual specced I forgot to buy the higher ranked Shadow spells Smiley: blush Mind Flay rank 1 ftl! Smiley: lol Or glyphs. Unsurprisingly my DPS has improved quite a bit since I realised that.

At the moment spellpower is 1578 unbuffed, 1752 with Inner Fire. I'm never quite sure what I'm best going for when I've got gear that gives a big boost to one stat I need and a fairly big drop to another though Smiley: rolleyes And yep, I have Improved Inner Fire in both specs.

Armory link if you want to look at spec/gear. http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Blade%27s+Edge&n=Lugh

Pretty solid soloing spec, but I see one item I would change: Getting Imp Shadowform

Without Imp Shadowform you're pretty dependent of PW:S. It's not bad for 1-2 mobs, but if you like to AoE farm a bit and not use holy nova, Imp Shadowform + Mind Sear is your friend. (I still throw up PW:S at the start and when Weakened soul is down, but it won't last that long).

I would probably ditch Veiled shadows (2 mins off CD of Shadowfiend and 6 seconds off Fade) I don't use that shadowfiend much soloing and never use fade.

Other than that, looks good.

Though if you want to do 'serious' raiding, I would also drop Imp PW:S to fill out Darkness.

Sezmo - I totally should of thought of that... do not feel bad, when I dual specced and picked up Penance, trying to use it for healing made me wonder why I would not just use Flash or GHeal... until I finally made it back to a trainer one day while I was still in disc mode and saw that I was missing Rank 2 and 3... total /facepalm for me. Now I love that spell like a fat kid loves cake.

Oh it took me forever to start using Penance as a heal. I'd got so used to the heals I already had that I just never remembered it. Now I don't know what I'd do without it.

My guild found it hilarious that I'd forgotten to pick up spells after I'd been whining to them for days about how bad shadow spec was lol.

Finding the same to be honest. And even if I do use Shadowfiend, the chances of me needing it again in less than 5 minutes is remote. Never used fade at all when soloing.

I don't want to raid as dps if I can help it. I much prefer healing. It'll be something to look into if my guild ever gets to the point we can do the higher level raids though.
