Hi, i have been leveling a shaman to replace my dk (which replaced my rogue when wrath launched). I've always liked the class, and i do prety damn good at it. My question is, how does enhancement and elemental compare to say a ret pala, or a DK. Given equal gear and skill. Do the "OP" classes blow then away, or is it actually pretty close?

Pretty close. Almost equal.

Ret OP? Since when? After the update before last Ret got blasted back to lolRet almost.

As for Shaman, they have insane potential. I ran a group with an idiot Shaman who STILL managed to pull 3k-4k DPS consistently.

*edit*
Apparently 3.1 made Ret beefy again? I missed the memo >.<

Having recently specced Ele from Resto, I wondered the same thing.

Having ran a few heroic and raids in half ele gear half resto gear, I can say Elemental shamans do very well. Given the right set of gear I could do even better.

I've never realy seen pallies as amazing dps, DK's can be if played right but half the people that play them have no clue.
Yet they always seem to be 500ish DPS behind.
Can't comment about Enhancement as I have 3 pieces of Enhancement gear collecting dust in my bank.

It's always nice when people have never seen you DPS before then suddenly are in amazement of your damage xD

Elemental damage is actually low at the moment. This is due to both Elemental Shaman just being Elemental Shaman compared to the other DPS classes out there, and also to the near complete unavailability of hit on spell mail, which makes gearing to the spell hit cap unduly cumbersome compared to other casters. (In our case, it is pretty much a requirement that you have tier pieces and the Dying Curse or Ulduar equivalent.) Elemental is still capable of solid DPS, but it is very difficult for a casual player to push the limitations of the spec.

Enhancement I can't really speak for since I don't play one or even with one terribly often, but they seem to be a better position than Elemental from what I have seen and heard.

pick up some other gear cloth or leather that has hit yeah you may loose mp5 but ya get your hit ya need. some cloth and leather even has mp5. i know in my guild its alittle harder though you have to wait for it to go to off spec/off armor roll/dk bid to pick it up but there are options out there.

Most raid guild will not let shamans take leather/cloth unless all leather/cloth users pass. So that's not gonna happen for a long time.

BTW, my guild's FRESH Enh shaman just out-dps me (ele) when his gear is still far from BiS. (full T7.5 though)

Sad.

Looks like Enh can churn out some crazy DPS,

what spec is your shammy currently?

Ok, an honest opinion.

MY Opion on ELE rundown

I am a Shaman, and I have done all 3 trees. Since you are only asking about the dps output of elemental v.s. enhancement though I would say they are pretty close. I started off and was enhancement until I hit 78, the damage was really good! However, I felt like a change, so I moved over to elemental. The damage is also really good! As elemental, on average I do 3400+ per lightning bolt and with my flame shock spell active, my crit rating at 29.5+% and a shot of lava burst, I can get as high as 15k damage. I need to work on gettin my hit rating up another 10-150 points, but that will come soon.

MY Opion on ENH rundown
As far as enhancement shammies go, I know some that can out dps me, and some that can not touch me. Most of the time I am in the top 5 dps in a 25 man run. I have been wanting to go back to enhancement, but we already have a ton of melee dps in my guild so it would be kinda hard. My reason for wanting to do this is because I didn't really have the best of gear until a week or 2 before wotlk came out and then all my gear was replaced with greens then blues and I respecced to ele before I was able to get all epic'd out.
