Glyph Questions for a Holy PriestFollow

#1 May 08 2009 at 7:42 AM Rating: Decent
Greetings!
This is my first post on here, though I have browsed and used these forums for the better part of 2 years now. I've been debating the use of two different glyphs since 3.1 dropped and I'm still torn, and since no one in my guild is interested in having this discussion, I figured I would bring it to the honorable denizens of the priest forums. Which would be better for a holy priest?

For a holy priest I do use FHeal alot for the Serendipity procs but I can't decide if GS would be better as a CD I can blow without worrying about whether I might need it in the clutch.
What do you think?

I use both actually. I have the FH, PoH, and GS for my majors. I tend to toss out way more FH than greaters as a raid healer. But I have also broken my t7.5 set 4 piece bonus and ulduar just has too much raid wide dmg that needs to be healed up quickly.
My "angel" is used when the tank pulls, when there is heavy dmg/debuffs on the tank, or when the tanks taunt off each other. It allows for a smoother transition by increasing the amount healed. I no longer think of it as a "zomg-he-is-going-down-save-his-***!!!" spell... It is now more of a "just incase/better safe than sorry" buff. Who cares if it doesn't "sacrifice" itself to keep him alive? It only takes a minute to be up again ^_^
Just my opinion, these glyphs fit my play style and work for me.

Please feel free to give me suggestions on my character. I am not perfect and want to improve anyway I can :)

I use PoH, CoH and GS myself. Though if you're that doubtful between GS and FH, just go with FS, CoH and GS. Your debate should really be between PoH and FH, and in your case you definitely want FH.

Good points both. I hadn't really thought of dropping PoH, but that is a good consideration. Ill miss the tasty 20k+ healing from a single spell, but I think GS might be more generally useful. Thanks for the opinions.

When I'm healing I stick to CoH, FH, and PoH. These are by far my 3 most casted spells in any raid and the glyphs on all 3 are awesome. GS is a very nice glyph, and worth it for certain fights. In most cases I can't justify taking it though. Our tank healers are pretty good and our tanks don't go down predictably if at all.

Putting GS up every other Frozen Blows proc on Hodir is pretty priceless though. And PoH's glyph overheals a lot.

Valid arguments on both sides. I think I'm leaning toward the GS glyph. While the PoH one is pretty amazing, I think with PoM, SoL procs, Emp. Renew, and CoH, a small HoT isn't going to make or break a encounter, where being able to cast GS a second or third time might save the tank/keep a DPS going to beat an enrage/help keep another healer up. Still a tough choice. Damn Blizzard for giving us options!! I'm too indecisive for this.

I know, I wish they would create better minors for us. My shadowfiend never dies, unless we decide to have him pull a mob for ***** and giggles. I honestly do not use my fade much at all (maybe once or twice for a new spawn of adds) so I find the reduced cost of casting it to not matter much at all. Levitate, more bag space and no more of those unfortunate deaths when you decide to float down to the DMF from TB, but instead go *splat* because you forgot to restock on your feathers >.< But does it help me raid? Not unless you count floating over the green slime in Naxx...

I am now considering taking out my PoH glyph and placing CoH back in it's slot. But it is a tough call for me, we hardly ever run with druids or a shammy to help ease raid wide dmg. There are usually just two or three priests covering the raid, so I am constantly stacking FHs for serendipity and then applying PoHs. Sometimes that hot will top off a group while I use CoH on another group.

CoH is a smart heal though - it automatically heals the people in the raid with the least HP. Which is why you want CoH affecting a sixth person - absolutely no amount of skill or speed is more efficient than a smart heal.

I agree. I wanted to see how the PoH change worked in 3.1 and the new content, but I think it has only driven me to waste more mana and heals on those in the target group who are near to full health... :) I'll be hitting up the local inscriptionist for a CoH glyph when I get home from work.

(off topic) I've never healed disc, but I am looking to learn. Can someone tell me if I can effectively do this in the gear I have now? What would I have to change? My link is posted somewhere above.

Your gear is actually better suited for disc healing than for holy healing, seeing as you've got 200 more intellect than spirit. Holy will want to have either as much spirit as intellect or more spirit than intellect, that's the only major difference. Furthermore, your crit is a bit low, but you're currently in shadowspec; as disc you should have 8% more, buffing you up to 25% which is a fine number to start off with.

Long story short: You're perfectly fine geared to heal disc.

I agree with this. Listen to Mothra, for he is mighty and wise.

CoH glyph, btw, is all win. Not only does it heal an extra person, it gives you an extra chance for a SoL proc. It's like a shiny cupcake of lovely loveliness. You know it gives me a sad to see anyone disparaging anything to do with CoH. Smiley: wink
