Does Spiked Saronite armor actually exist?Follow

So, having gotten the link from an FAQ (on this board, I believe) I was consulting this guide to gearing your DK. Mine is 75 (about to be 76) now and I'm thinking of replacing some of the gear I got in my mid to late 60s. However, she's actually still questing in Outlands because I've got a wild and utterly illogical hair about clearing the quests in each zone in order of level before moving onto the next one--I'm almost finished with Netherstorm and will then be moving onto SWV and THEN I will finally hit Northrend.

So, needless to say, the quested and dropped gear I'm seeing isn't an improvement for me.

Upgrading isn't really necessary with what I've got on versus the content I'm doing--most things I am fighting go down fairly quickly and easily. But, as I start to scrape the bottom of the barrel as far as quests are concerned, I'm running into 3-5man lvl 67-70 quests (for instance, I'm not QUITE done with Blade's Edge Mountains, having 3 quests left to do, because all the quests remaining to me are 5-man) and I'd like to not have to just be able to solo them and get them out of my way rather than asking friends to help. So I would like to upgrade just to make polishing the last of this stuff off easier so I can move the heck on.

Anyway, I was eyeballing the notion of spiked saronite armor because my main is a miner and I have saronite coming out of various bodily orifices, but the problem is, I can't seem to find it anyway. Guildies who have linked their blacksmithing don't have it. I can't find it when I search the gear either here on Zam or at Wowhead. Does this crap even exist, and if so, where can I find a list of the required mats so I know what mats to gather up?

I see four different Saronite armor sets on WoWHead:

Ornate Saronite- Crit, Resil, Sta, Int and SpP.
Savage Saronite- Crit, Resil, Str and Sta.
Brilliant Saronite- SpP, Mp5 and Crit
Tempered Saronite- Def, Sta and Str.

Did you want Savage? While it has resil, the other stats may be upgrades for you (I don't know).

Level 75 and still questing in Outland?

Ouch...

I replaced all my Outland gear at level 70, having entered Northrend at level 68. Going to Northrend was just like going to Outland back when TBC was released. I went from 8k health to 12k in one level.

I know, it's absurd. I've got this ****-retentive thing about starting from the very bottom and working my way up--I got Loremaster of Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms and was lvl 66 before I even set foot in Outlands. And now I've been running dailies for Ogri'la, Shattered Sun, and Skyguard as well as my normal questing.

Hmm, maybe they changed the name after that guide was written. Or maybe that guide was just wrong, lol.

I will check out Savage and see how it stacks up to my adamantite/ragesteel gear now.

The cheapest way to upgrade your armor would probably be to head to Borean and do the quests.

Once you clear that area you'll have like three sets of upgraded armor, a ******** axe and some nice trinkets.

Yeah, just listen to Mazra. Borean Tundra kicks *** for DKs (and most other classes). That and DB will be more than enough to replace all your gear.

Unfortunately, Howling Fjord won't have much for you. So, if you don't get over your "must do it in order" thing, that zone won't help you much.

But, on the other side, if you hit 80 in Outland, or early in NR, you will be filthy rich when you finish Wrath quests.

The cool thing about Borean Tundra, the way I've experienced it, is that there's no "Go to Borean Tundra, do quests and leave Borean Tundra for <zone>" quest chain. It all starts once you're there, and once you've finished the quest chains in the zone, you're free to go wherever you want, although one quest will take you to Dragonblight, if I remember correctly. You can just save that quest for later, though (I haven't done it yet).

It's not like seen in a lot of zones where several quests will take you to other zones. I went to Borean Tundra, preferred it over Howling Fjord, and four levels later I'm about to round up the last quests there, having not visited any other Northrend zones. Basically you could go to Borean Tundra, bleed the zone dry and then head back to Netherstorm or wherever you are now.

And the gear really is awesome. I went from looking like a pale Paladin with glowy eyes to a freakin' monster:

3D model.

That's fine. Since HF and BT are the same level, I can start in BT and then do HF without feeling I'm jumping ahead.

Well, I have ~20 quests to do in Netherstorm still, and all of Shadowmoon Valley, as well as dailies for Shattered Sun, Skyguard and Ogri'la if I feel so inclined (don't think I'll do Netherwing since I've already got the mounts on my main and they don't offer anything else,) I don't see myself hitting Northrend before lvl 77, possibly 78.

So...most of Northrend's quest rewards will be pure cheddar.

if you can stand doing a single questline out of order, id grab the quest line for the 2h axe in borean. itll give you enough power to really mow thru those outland mobs in a few seconds.

Went to that site and I'm thinking they ment spiked cobalt.. which is from 71-74

Spiked Cobalt chest There's actually a whole set for that.

Now you just trying to get the loremaster achievements in outland or just finishing up chains?
Like everyone else mentioned some of the gear in the starting zones rock for that lvl. Hell Chiseled Stalagmite Pauldrons can last you for a while and they drop off the first instance in Borean tundra.

Well, I'm kinda using the achievement as a meter for how thoroughly I've cleared the quests in any given zone. I sometimes means I miss a few un-soloable ones, but I'm okay with that.

Ideally I wanted to do this with a character starting from level 1 and working my way up in order, but I just didn't have that sort of time, so I am doing it with my DK instead.

Hehe, I can sympathize about the need to finish things up before moving on to new content. My druid just turned 66 and is still finishing up some quests and instances in vanilla WoW. He's done maybe 6-8 Hellfire quests, which were done to help out guildies. I'm really trying to avoid getting fully into Outland until we finish up the last of the vanilla instances. To date, we have just Stratholme left to complete (although I put an asterisk on that because I have yet to sneak into Orgrimmar and do RFC).

There's a good chance I'll be 67 before really hitting Outland, and then of course we want to do every instance there before moving on to Northrend. I wonder if I can be 80 without ever setting foot in Arthas' frozen playground? We'll have to see I guess.

Good luck with your adventures!

I think I was 66 or 67 before hitting Outland, and I'm now 77 and still haven't reached Northrend (except the fishing and cooking dailies...figured I might as well start farming awards/spices and KT rep early.) I've got about 30 quests left in Shadowmoon Valley and then I'm finished with all the soloable content. If I decided to work Skyguard, Ogri'la and Netherwing rep up by doing dailies, I could easily hit 80 before making it to Northrend, but I don't think I'll bother, because I'm getting bored and also frustrated with the fact that until I start collecting NR herbs, my inscription is going nowhere.
