So, was my prediction true?Follow

#1 May 01 2009 at 9:19 AM Rating: Decent
Before 3.1 I predicted that nearly all DKs, both PvP and PvE would go unholy with the changes in 3.1.

So far, I think I'm right about PvE and wrong about PvP. It does seem that most DKs are unholy in PvE and it seems like many are shifting to blood for PvP. What are you seeing?

Me personally? Well I've refused to have anything to do with arena since it was created, so my focus is on PvE, and to benefit the guild I went blood (breaking 7k dps on deconstructor wasn't bad either though) but the other two guild DKs are both unholy.

I believe you were right Dil. That's the balance of DKs in my guild. Haven't really seen any Frost DPS DKs now that I think of it. I have that as my tanking Dual Spec.

As Blood, I do bring some things to the Raid the others can't, but still have been able to compete DPS wise. I've found Mark of Blood to be a huge benefit when doing XT and in several other cases.

There are a lot of Unholy DKs out there, but I am having a great time as Blood. Seems to be a personal preference as to what tree you want to go down.

Well, when you figure in that one of the best overall DPS specs in 0/10/61, you're not really going to see too many changing.

I still play as blood though. I just find it more beneficial for tanking, since the self healing gives me some room to compensate for a not quite up to par healer.

I am getting tired of Unholy though, I've been considering going to Frost for a DPS spec.

I've gone from Frost to Blood for PvP. At least until my attack power gets up there to make the damage noticable.

3k Death Strike and Heart Strike crits at level 68? Yes, please. I do miss the survivability of Frost in mass PvP, though. Hungering Cold, I love thee.

I'm Unholy right now, but that is for tanking.

I didn't have any particular reason for switching from Frost, other than wanting to try Unholy. Though, the Oblit changes and HB changes are what is making me not want to switch back...

So I have to ask Dilbrt, from your personal experience, is 3/3 Bloodworms that much of a DPS/Self Heal increase? I haven't reviewed any recent posts or parses on it.

Frost or Unholy for PvP.

Frost DKs aren't dead... 2h frost DPS dks, might be a "rare" sight. Perhaps its because its very gear dependant, ppl just need to get enough runic power regen (glyhps + talents + 4th set bonus, obliterate) and the sigil of vengeful heart for Frost strike spam.. and woops, you beat unholy DKs on DPS sharts.

This holds up at single target boss fights and multiple targets boss fights (due to Howling blast = still powerful AOE)

In my guild we got 2 unholy DPS and 1 frost DPS, and we battle for top DPS all nite long in Ulduar... at start both unholy DKs had me on the DPS sharts, but after learning Frostspec to the fullest (been blood since start up until 3.1) and getting the new sigil from XT-002, there is no more looking back.

* my spec is 17/51/3 btw

It's probably not the best spec for my gear, but I like DPS as blood. I just like the rotation and feel of blood, the raid buffs (hysteria for star dps, MoB for AE mobs and hard on tank fights, etc...) and the higher survivability as dps (bloodworms and deathstrike what?).

I should spec unholy and at least give it a try for a while, I just didn't like it very much the first time I tried it.

I'm not really behind in my guilds dps. I'm doing better than many other scrub DPS who have been raiding with that guild for a while now, who are mostly in full epics. ~3k dps in Nax 25, while I still have greens on. I'm not top dps by far though. But I'm usually hovering at #8 or 9.

Bloodboil is really awesome, I'm kinda expecting a nerf or a talent change.

Right now, I'm using glyph of disease. But I think I'll glyph for DRW instead. 5 extra seconds is ~2-3 extra attacks on DRW.

Now that applying diseases causes damage on use, GoD seems less useful.

Do you think I'd do better with an unholy spec for DPS? I'm mostly planning on doing Nax 10 and 25, VoA 10/25, and OS 10/25, but my guild has me doing Maly (DK power spark duty) and I don't know why, ulduar.

I'm still new at playing a DK. But I've been reading a lot about them, learning specs and the math. On my gear I know that I'm overcapped on hit, I just got the chest piece a few days ago, and haven't had time to re-gear for it.

Honestly where is there else to put points? I had a hard enough time deciding where to put the point that I stuck in rune tap, much less 3 more points. I mean... they do damage, but if there were a better place to put them I'd ditch the points in a heartbeat. Though, the whole concept behind blood is self healing and keeping me topped off is handy on constant damage fights.

EDIT: oh and I raped deconstructor again, though I didn't do as well this time as last time.

Personally I've gone Blood for both tanking and DPS. I'm not a min-maxxer though, and I just like the skills on the Blood tree so maybe I'm not a good representation of 'nearly all' Death Knights.

However, I mention it because I guess I must be one of the few that changed from Unholy after 3.1

I don't PvP seriously enough to respecc, I just take my PvE DPS spec to BGs and WG. If I had triple-spec I'd probably go Unholy for PvP though.

MY prediction came true about them as well I predicted after people paid money for the expansion blizzard would nerf the crap out of DK's and I was right about that. Look at all the nerfs that hit them since release.

That's an absurd prediction. All classes had tons of nerfs and buffs since wotlk was released. And it was obvious as hell that a new class would be subject to lots more changes than classes that had been out for 4 years.

Not to mention the game is supposed to be balanced and DKs are still today one of the OP classes compared to others in PvP. So it's obvious that for sake of balance DKs will be nerfed or the other classes will be buffed.

Don't know, I'm seeing I got tired of playing DK. It's hell strong at PvP but at PvE it just lacks feel and personality.

Tanking it has a totally different feel from the warrior. Sure it's strong but the feel isn't as fun as the warrior.

As for DPSing I don't like being melee dps in raids but in small groups it's fine, except I feel like the DK class lacks personality. There's too much rune-watching and too little room-watching. I do the same pre-planned combos no matter what happens. I'll let DK rest for a while.

Sure is strong as hell in PvP, but I still feel like I need a break from it.

Well, I've been Unholy since DKs came out, but have dabbled a bit in frost and blood. Unholy is just more my playstyle, so I'm sticking with that. Right now, my specs are crazy casue I'm playing with some of the other options, but I'm getting ready to tank on em both, so I'll be back to cookie cutter shortly.

A majority of the dk's im running into in arenas are frost or unholy.

Every once in awhile I'll see a blood dk.

Seems like a lot of Blood talents are more well-suited to PvE than PVP specifically.

Bloody Vengeance for example, is not so good when there's nothing really to guarantee crits, like Frost's Killing Machine. I myself use Frost for PVP, the changes to Unbreakable Armor make it really good against casters as well as physical DPS now.
