PVP and the importance of +hitFollow

#1 Apr 30 2009 at 6:27 PM Rating: Decent
hi all. i have been wondering about the importance of hit in pve. i am pvp mut spec'd atm. was heroics/bit of raiding as mut before, so am ok with pve hit requirements.

my question firstly is what is an acceptable level of +hit for pvp if any? i run a 1.3 OH (papercutter)and 1.6 mh with dual wounding. thinking of going to dual 1.6 (titansteel shankers) to try it out. in PVP gear i ahve about 250 hit. i normally run 320 in my pve kit and have about 3k AP unbuffed. i switch out my chest for deadly glads as it is the only piece i have and my thrown item for other stats and lose a fair bit of hit.

any insight here would be great. thanks in advance

Like every other season, 5% hit?

Isn't this kind of a ************* duh" thing that's been discussed like 600000000000 times before?

thanks for wasting 10 seconds of my life with that rediculous reply. If it had infact been discussed that many times before there is a chance I may not have asked it, and secondly, if I had played every season before i also may not have asked it.

Please do us a favour and only post constructive replies. And given the fact that after 5% you posted a '?' doesnt show me you have much conviction in your answer. So unless you are sure, maybe you should not try to flame someone asking a question.

Man, don't even try, it's been done before. Just drop it, take one in the gut, and move on.

When you post in a forum at least read a few threads. Theo is an asshat to some people, I personally find it hilarious, but if you were asked the same questions all the time, you would be too.

Theo is also one of the top poster on ALL of the zam forums when it comes down to knowledge of classes. Theo is probaly THE top rogue poster. Just like Aethian is probably THE top hunter poster.

He gave you the answer to your question. He just did it in a way to encourage you to look the information up more in the future.

The ? was him poking even more fun at you.

From the Compendium (you know, that big compilation of EVERY PIECE OF ROGUE KNOWLEDGE you'll ever need stuck in one place, written by me?) via Theo's PvP FAQ:

Now, in PvP, you need a certain hit rating in order to not miss with specials attacks like Eviscerate, Hemorrhage, and Sinister Strike. That’s called the PvP Hit Cap. That hit cap is 79. 78.85 if you want to get technical (15.77 hit rating per percent, and you need 5% to not miss specials), but you can’t get fractions of hit rating.

Granted, that's for level 70, but it should be common sense that if something like that changed, there would be something written somewhere.

Alternatively, you could have not been a dumbass and checked WoWwiki's hit article, where it says:

Applying these formulas gives the following base miss rate for a Level 80 character with a 400 Weapon Skill:
  • v. Level 80 mob: 5.0%

  • Then gone to the table a little further down where it says that 163.95 (aka 164) hit rating is needed for 5% hit.

Thanks for being a ******* moron, have a nice day, and remember, staying in school and learning to read is a good thing.

Also, I was 100% positive in my reply, just FYI.

Meh, most people in the rogue forums are used to seeing Theo make fun of people.

It isn't anything new to us. We are used to it, but it still makes us laugh. Well, as long as we aren't the ones being made fun of.

Although, most SOME of the regular rogue posters don't get flamed by him.

If everyone responded to Theo like this, the forums would be much, much more boring.

Well I could always bring in my e-stalking as I have in other threads already. Although, you can only talk about some things for so long.

I like your PvP FAQ, but it's not the most helpful thing for someone starting PvP for the first time.

First of all, it's not been updated since well before WotLK was released. If I'm reading a FAQ that's telling me to put Surefooted on my boots and to put a Bloodlust Brooch in a trinket slot, I'm going to be skeptical of the applicability of the info to v3.1. That's not to say that the general concepts aren't helpful, but the FAQ was written back when the top of a talent tree was 41 points. It's perfectly reasonable to wonder if the numbers listed are accurate, especially since the hit rating values seem so low.

This leads to the second point - the Compendium doesn't contain "EVERY PIECE OF ROGUE KNOWLEDGE you'll ever need stuck in one place". There's nothing in the Compendium itself that says 5% hit is needed for PvP. One would have to follow a link in that sticky to your PvP FAQ, deduce that 5% hit is one of the pieces of info that is still accurate, then google "wowwiki hit cap" (or alternatively, one could skip over this site altogether and go straight to the wiki, but then there'd be no reason for this site to exist).

If your argument was that the OP could have found the information himself, that's true, but that's also true of just about every thread on these boards. The fact that he gave the thread a title that related to his question gets a rate-up from me. Judging from thread titles, if his question has been asked since Christmas, I don't see it. But now, if someone asks the same question later this summer, it would be easy to find the answer by skimming the OP's thread title.

Edit: Thanks xNocturnalSunx, that PvP forum link in Theo's sig would be a nice addition to the Compendium, especially since he mentions the 5% figure in one of the PvP forum stickies.

There's also the PVP/Arena Forums to browse for more specific PVP answers, linked in Theo's sig. It's helped me quite a bit now that I'm wanting to eventually get into arenas and PVPing (as I fail at PVP).

Yeah, and I've also added a "PvP Mechanics" sticky to the forum, providing all the answers about hit/miss/resist in PvP.

Sometimes, I cry myself to sleep. Usually after seeing exactly how far most of the posters here are stuck up Theo's ***.

Theo, how far is your guild in Ulduar? You raiding with your DK or your rogue?

Also, looks like Hawks/Wings in the Conference finals. I can't see Vancouver making much of a comeback after dropping one at home.

Speaking of dropping one at home....

As soon as Draper or Rafalski are back, the series is over.

Which should be tomorrow or game 4.

Selke-winning forward or one of the top-scoring defenseman this season?

    Yeah.

Also, I don't think Getzlaf's line can keep up a 37+ ATOI for the whole series.

If you think about it, they're barely staying with us and we're using Chris ******* Chelios on D. Smiley: rolleyes

But yes, it looks like Hawks/Wings in the West.
