Another Mathtard question.

Impurity reads:
"Your spells receive an additional 20% benefit from your attack power."

I think it is a safe assumption that abilities can be substituted for spells, since we dont have spells but rather abilities according to wowwiki.

So, my question is, how does this get added into our damage equation?

Is it simply, (AP*0.2)+Damage ?
Or, is it more complicated then that? If so, anyone know the formula?

Thank you.

Abilities have their own damage formula with an AP component.

B + (C x AP) = D
With B being the base damage of the spell, C the attack power coefficient of the spell and AP being your attack power. D is the damage you will be doing.

Example:
Death Coil damage with 2000 AP:
443 + (2000x0.15) = 743

Blood Boil	0.04
Blood Plague	0.055
Bloodworms	0.006
Corpse Explosion	0.0475
Death and Decay	0.0475
Death Coil	0.15
Frost Fever	0.055
Howling Blast	0.1
Summon Gargoyle	0.4
Icy Touch	0.1
Pestilence	0.04
Strangulate	0.06
Unholy Blight	0.013

Those are the coefficient values, and effectively those are boosted by 20% with Impurity.

So it's nowhere near as good as most people think at first glance. The reason that shadowfrost builds took it was because it effected every single ability that you used as shadowfrost but PS.

Now, most builds don't need to use it.

Am I correct to assume that if the ability is not on the list, that it would not be effected by Impurity?

I'm no expert whatsoever on the DK yet, but I've been trying to read EJ when I can. That said, every Unholy build I've seen on EJ has 5/5 in it.

There really isn't anything better. And, the bonus to UB and Garg are both nice enough that the bonus is pretty decent in PvE. Not tree-defining, but important.

Yeah, plus Elitist Jerks can help as a reference, but sometimes the things they mention contradict what everyone else has experienced, read up on, etc.

Is it wrong of me to claim Theo all to myself?

The main reason for that is you need filler points, and Desecration--at least until this most recent patch--has been largely useless because of the time it takes to pop out, and mobility fights.

With SS now applying it and it coming out instantly, that's a pretty nice talent choice now, I'd assume.

Impurity is useful to a PvE DPS build because it effectively gives you 20% more AP in your damage calculations for your diseases, UB, and Garg, all of which are pretty big parts of your DPS.

I want to point out something, we do have spells, we just don't get the benefit from spell power. We say that we don't have spells, as to not confuse the multitude of noobs out there.

If the target is immune to physical (ie. BoP) we can still hurt them with spells such as Icy Touch, Death Coil, UB, Gargoyle and the like.

If we are silenced, there are abilities that we cannot use, but there are abilities we can use while silenced, such as plague strike, heart/blood strike, obliterate, death strike, etc.

Impurity affects the abilities that we have that qualify as spells, they do not affect the things that do not qualify as spells.
