Eng vs Blk Smith - Eng for the opening of a fight?Follow

I am starting a new gnome warrior and was thinking of doing engineering. My thought was the explosives would give me AOE for pulling mobs, and I could use the large rocket trinket for pulling bosses.

However, today I used dynamite and it gave me no rage so I am rethinking this before I get to far. Has anyone tried using the dynamite and other engineering toys to help make tanking easier for war?

If my goal is to main tank 5 man and 10 man raids at level 80, will engineering really help me with that? Or is the black smithing armor just too good to pass up?

Thanks!

Not really. I mainly have engineering for the goggles, gun, and trinket (and maybe one day the mechano-hog). That's about it. Usually for opening a fight, I'll either shoot or use Heroic Throw. Multiple mobs, thunderclap and shockwave. I rarely use cleave, and with the glyphs I use, I'm able to sunder all mobs pretty quickly.

As for blacksmithing, I'm not too familiar with that so I can't really help you. All I know is that the only things I ever had made from a BS were the Tempered Saronite stuff. Nothing since then.

Yea you don't really want the toys like dynamite for pulling. If you want to be an engineer make the gun as it has defensive stats on it.I also shoot or heroic throw for pulling, as the mobs come in shockwave, thunderclap demoshout, shield slam skull, devastate and revenge as it comes up. I use cleave being glyph for it i hit skull and 2 additional targets, then back to my rotation.

I have the pyro rockets on my gloves for pve and pvp, a 1 minute CD for 1.7-2.6k dmg is not bad.

Also the rocket boots and Para cloak are fun for some jumps.

Bombs are great for WG/SotA.

As mentioned goggles, gun and trinket are very nice.

Other than that, it has nothing to offer in the way of valuable crafts.

*Edit* If I could go back in time I would of gone BS, not Engi.

The BSing armor is for the most part mediocre and will be replaced relatively quickly. There's just much better gear out there. \

What you won't replace quickly is the ability to gem up 2 extra sockets worth of stats that you didn't have before. 2 stam gems means you get 480 extra health before modifiers just from picking up BSing.

But but... Mining is 500HP + gold. While BS is 480 HP + goldSINK.

And JC is 51 stam if you only count switching stam gems for jc stam gems. It actually means more because you can put those gems in the crappy belt slot that only takes trash and that you can put those in any color slot and get the socket bonuses.

And JC is also said to be very lucrative in terms of gold, I don't really know if that part is true.

Eh, it's not really. It used to be, but it's not nearly as profitable as it once was. The big thing is not having to worry about crappy red sockets. I can throw a 41 stam JC gem in to activate sockets/metas and not have to worry about using bad gems in those slots. I was an engineer in BC, I've been BS for a long while, and then I was mining. I switched from mining to JC and haven't gone back. The crap alone is a major reason to go JC.

New tank on the block:

HEAD SLOT:
For a new Tank that just dings 80 I believe that Engineering is better than BS because the Goggles has Expertise which is not easy to find in the beggining of a tanking career.Expertise will guarantee steady threat/aggro on a tank. So in that case the Engineering Goggles are important when considering your choise. On the other hand A BS tank if he is wise will not put the 2 BS slots on Stamina but on Expertise or the combo Expertise/stamina. So the 2 profeesions are equal in that matter for a beggining tank. But the Engineer has also the option to wear the BS helmet for more stamina. So overall the Engineer profession has more options (Allways for a new tank)

TRINKETS:
About the trinkets now : Blacksmithing has no trinkets!! So that means that a new tank will take the vendor trinket (dodge trinket) and the 110 stamina trinket from a hc. If one choses Engineering he has the ability to switch from +81stamina (Engineering trinket) to the vendor (dodge)triket and have the 110 stamina trinket from a hc(dont remember which..)

REST SLOTS:
Gun , Helmet, shoulders,Chest,Boots can be bought or crafted from a friend so does not affect your choise.

Old Tank:

As you progress more gear is available with expertise like rings with emblems of valor so if Expertise is OK from those items then the goggles are getting less and less nesecary. The Stamina collected from Naxx is enough to let the Engineer trinket be replaced so that means that Engineer is becoming less important than BS and the 2 slots that the BS ers have is the difference between a super tank and a super duper tank. (lol)

Jewell crafting:
The ability to craft your own gems alone saves some thousands in gold ..that alone is a damn good reason for me to favor the combo mining+JC (or BS/JC). The 2!! trinkets that JC make are very descent and the ability to put your unique gems on you are godsend. Definitelly my choise if I had to redo stuff from start. Selling gems even now that prices gone low is still descent if someone wants to learn as soon as possible coldweather flying or pick up dual spec. I dont see how a BS or an Engineer can beat a JC in winning money easier/less time. The JC has the advantage of selecting between his trinkets which can be gemmed!!(amazing) and the vendor( dodge ) trinket and the 110 stamina trinket,so more choises means better tanking. The rest of the stuff: Boots , helmet can be bought so no worries for an early tank.
