Now I mainly stick to my feathers and laz0rz, but this mage in my guild has been pissing me off lately and I need to know wtf is wrong with him and his dps. He has excuses for his dps every time and is completely unwilling to be talked to about spec, stat hierarchy and his gear. I can only hear "Recount is broken" so many times before I snap on him.

Ok here is the link to a mage in our guild.

His armory, but armory is currently broken so it may not work.

A little back story. I've seen wws parses of mages in naxx 25 gear doing dps over and beyond 5k. I check parses like this to make sure the guild I'm in is on track for things like Ulduar.

Now naxx is NOT the place to be juding your good raiders, I know this ulduar is proving to us who is a good raider and who isnt. Right now its blatently showing to me that this mage of ours, whom is our @#%^ing caster officer (another story), is doing something terribly wrong for his gear level. On deconstructor his average dps was something around 3.5. He is doing no add containment, or very little for that fact, he is just moving out of bombs and pew pewing the boss/heart.

What is wrong with this spec if anything? What exactly should his stat hierarchy be? And above all, is it just proving to my guild that no matter how much gear we throw at a possible terrible player they're going to be absolute windowlickers?

Edit: Link

Edit: Well, the link works now but due to talents being refunded he's 0/0/0. I know he normally runs some form or variation of FFB.

None of our guildies have wws parses which sucks for us.

For raid comp it tends to lean for melee heavy but we always have an elemenal shaman, a moonkin or spriest for hit and earth and moon, unholy dks for ebon plaguebringer, warlock for coe and even a disc priest for buffs.

I dont think there is a buff we don't get from our raid comp. We run melee heavy but its friendly to both melee and caster. We pop hero/blood at about 80% usually to bypass the first tantrum if we can handle it lasts well into the heart phase.

I'll see if I can get a wws parse tonight for our raid one of the officers must have it.

His gear is alright.

How big is the difference between him and the other dps with about the same level of gear, in the same raids? How did he behave pre-Ulduar? Naxx may not be the place to allow raiders to shine at their best, but you can spot bad players there also.

Anyone can run wws just get an addon like loggerhead or clsaver. That also being said I'm not sure if wws is completely accurate yet since patch. That and since the fights are new and timing of cooldowns can make a pretty big difference.

Naxx his dps was so so. Myself as a boomkin would almost always beat him, while one of our other mages would beat me day in and day out on dps. I know dps isn't the greatest measure of skill but it gives me something to go by.

On average I was 4k+ on naxx and I'm doing more than that so far in Ulduar and consistently beating him. Like I said once he talents and I can get a wws report or something along those lines for him I'll show it to you guys.

One question though, how does haste affect a mages dps? Is it the so to speak "end all be all" stat for mages? His haste rating pretty much makes me well up in tears as a boomkin.

His gear is excellent. Only a bad rotation or whatever can make them do that poorly.

Since we have no reports to go by, I'm just going to toss this out there.

We had the same issue with a mage in my guild. His gear was good and his rotation was good as a FFB mage, but he was constantly very low DPS. By very low I'm talking 2k-2.5k DPS in Naxx. Our other FFB mage (rest are arcane) was showing him the rotations and they had the same gear, but the other was pulling 5k+.

After going through the reports we came to the conclusion that he was just... slow. After a fight like patch the other mage was getting many more casts off. It's probably a combination of clicking, and doing it slowly. Almost like waiting for the numbers of a FFB to pop up before he started casting the next one.

If you can get a WWS with him and another mage with the same spec take a look at how many casts each get off during a fight where they had 100% up time. That should tell you if slow reaction time is a probably for him.

Most people don't realize that you don't have to wait for the spell to be done casting before you hit your next spell. If you wait for your spell to completely finish casting, you are going to lag behind on long fights where others don't wait for it to finish casting.

We put him on add containment last night on Deconstructer and his dps was much much better. Perhaps it was more aoe, god knows. I just dont get how his dps fluctuates so much from 3k-5k.

Who knows, but he did good numbers last night so I guess I can't complain.
