Death Strike healing issues?Follow

I read in the 3.1 patch notes that Death Strike healing was supposed to be reduced by 20%. Before the patch, I'd get back health at at least a 1:1 ratio for damage done, with 2 diseases up. Now, I'm getting 40% of my damage done in the same situations. Frankly, it's not nearly as useful as it once was (granted I'm only 60), and my ability to solo is rather reduced by it. Is anyone else having the same issue? Is there some chance I'm just missing something, and my DS will work just fine when rectified?

It was hotfixed. Since the damage was so high, it was way too extreme to have an ability that could out-damage Oblit, with a positive healing effect on top of it.

Expect to see WAY less healing.

Fair enough. Can I expect the damage to scale up enough at higher levels to make the healing more than just a nice touch? At the moment ordinary leveling is fine, but I was looking forward to trying to solo group quests at level, and I don't really think I'll be able to without the benefits DS once held.

Not really. It does scale with damage, but my healing returned at 80 is mediocre compared to the old levels. And it did have a noticeable effect on my ability to solo elites.

Perhaps as Blood, but it has become way harder as Frost or Unholy.

I'm blood right now, and I couldn't take a 61 elite at 60. Then again, I was also unaware of the DS healing nerf, so I wasn't really expecting that. Probably once I get some glyphs, respec a little and get the hang of things, it'll work out better.

I had trouble soloing the Giants on the Icecrown walls yesterday. I was amazed at how little my DSs were healing me Smiley: bah

I had to AotD him to kill him (and run away) Smiley: lol

As a frost spec, I think the nerf stinks. There is almost no reason to use it now. Granted the ONLY reason I used it before was for the nice heals so I didn't have to stop to eat/bandage veru often. As it stands now I am getting so little health returned from it, I doubt I will ever use again.

I was actually doing that pustulant spine quest on my dk today and was having no problem at all on the giants on the walls.

I'm in pretty terrible gear actually, leveling grees and blues.

I love the DS changes its so much easier to be blood now.

Maybe I have some more adjustment to my play style or something.

My rotation could need some tweaking, but I will probably wait a few weeks on that; for everything to settle down after the patch.

Good to hear that the DS nerf isn't too bad.

Let me put it this way. With the gear and Unholy spec in my Armory (the DpS one), I am getting 286 healing per DS. WAY lower than before.

All I usually do is this.

If my RP is over 50 I'll do this.

IT/PS/DS (to get up death runes)/HS/HS/RP Dump

If my RP is below 50 I'll do this.

IT/PS/HS/HS/DS/RP Dump, usually if I can get my runes off fast enough for the 8.5 cd I'll blow one DC and I'm back into the rotation again.

Static elites you basically can just burn down with that rotation and very little health drop I'll maybe at best lose about 5k of my 18k life.

I'm glyphed for DS/IT/PS and for any form of healing talents I've got 2/2 imp BP and 2/3 BW.

Do it in frost presence, Imp BP will allow you 4% healing while in frost presence and start rolling elites.

It's times like these thought that I think why the hell do I not use fallen garg since I never dps with my dk and all he does is quest and farm.

Did they hotfix DS? I had this "~300 Healing on DS" issue after the patch but when I killed stuff earlier, I noticed healing was up to ~1500 again. I hope this is intentional, the healing after the patch was just ridiculously low.

From what I hear, it now gives 5% of max health for each disease.

It is, officially, the most ridiculous ability EVER. I can't wait for it to be nerfed... I hope they just take the damage away...

I mean, hey, let's make this ability so strong. Oh wait, too strong. Okay, let's reduce its healing. Wait, too strong still. Okay, let's give it MORE healing than it had before. Frickin' Blizz Logic.

[EDIT]

I should elaborate.

A tank with 20K (looow) health Blood DK will get 2K healing for each DS, so about 3 every 20 seconds for 6K healing. Yeah, that isn't that much by itself, but it IS 300 HpS. 2 points in IBP won't even give that.

Now consider the fact that DS, fully talented, can do more than Oblit or SS (which is a talent). And with over 50% RP, will be doing even more.

Now consider that Oblit has a negative side-effect that requires 3 points to get rid of.

I know I can't just look at those FU abilities, but I am starting to wonder how any spec could ever hope to compete with Blood in anything other than tanking.

[EDIT2]

The DK with 20K health is a tank. I left that out. So, the healing actually matters on a normal, non-AoE boss fight.

Its the most ridiculous ability NOW because its way weaker than it was originally? im confused. i agree the original death strike was OP. but now, after hotfix, it's significantly weaker.

Since its now hotfixed to do a flat 5-10-15% HP heal instead of heal based on damage, does this make the glyph fairly useless? Or do people actually use the glyph for the increased damage?

edit: heh maybe it wasnt as strong as i thought it was?

I don't know. I NEVER got heals anywhere near 10-15% of max health. Provided, this was in tank gear, so... But I did have the glyph when I first went Blood at 58.

Imagine how crazy this is in a WG max with Tenacity... Yesterday, I saw a DK with 70K health. And they didn't have a full stack.

That is 7K+ per DS...

[EDIT]

The glyph is probably still worth it for DpS Blood. DS still does a lot of damage. And the HS glyph is crap. Besides DRW and DD, I'm not sure which other glyphs would be worth it for single-target DpS.

First starting out at 58, I'd get anywhere from 500-1200 on DS, which would be some 10-20% of my health. Still, really glad to hear it's been fixed. That nerf was the first time I've considered changing from blood spec.

I may have missed something, but I thought the healing it gave was based on damage not your max HP? Did that change or was I just mistaken.

Ok, I like this hotfix a little better.

Solo'd the giants on the walls in Icecrown again; and no issues this time around.

TY Blizzard.
