Hi.
I've leveled as a healer with a Disc (54/17/0) spec, now with dual spec i want to go into PVP with shadow. I know mot forum posts say that disc is better for PVP, but i wanna try shadow out!
I'm happy with my talents, but i'm having trouble with the stats i should b aiming for.
What should i aim for for Hit, Haste, Crit, Resiliance and spell power?
and what order priority should they be?
Thanks

Disc isn't neccissarily 'better' for PvP, just different. As disc you'll PvP as a healer, as shadow as a damage dealer.

Resilience should (definitely as a clothie) be a major aim, and so should spellpower. I'm thinking haste is also great for PvP since you'll have an easier time getting spells off. Hit... not sure. Rogues usually stack hit 'till they reach 5% so their abilities can no longer miss in PvP - I'm not too sure how that works out for shadow priests.

Don't pin me down on all of that though, I'm no shadow player.

Thanks for advice, i've been told that i should get my hit points up to the equivalent of 5%, is haste important for pvp? or should i just focus on hit then crit, followed by stamina and sp?

You'd have to find a detailed guide (or just try www.shadowpriest.com) to be sure, but I think you're better of focusing haste over crit for PvP, in fact. Getting your spells off faster > getting crits which deal reduced damage anyway thanks to resilience.

I'd say focus on stamina, spellpower and haste, and get hit up to 5%. Don't avoid crit, but pick spellpower and haste over it.

Also, you will want to have some talents still in Disc for PvP. I will say this as a long time Shadow Priest.... Disc is WAY better for PvP than shadow, and it sucks that I have to say that. I can do more damage and heal as Disc because I can keep myself alive far longer.

However, if you choose to know the pain of PvP as shadow, do not forget to go down Disc and if you are solely looking at PvP then you will want 5 points to resist fears and so forth, 2 points in improved Fortitude for extra HP and 3 points in improved inner fire for the extra mitigation and spell power. (If the dual spec shadow is for PvP only, then do not waste any talents in Holy... won't help you 95% of the time.) Always get Inner Focus for the extra crit as your first spell you may want to pop Inner Focus, and throw out a Mind Blast for the potential burst.

Hit is far better than crit in PvP as you will most likely only get off 3 - 5 casts before dying.

For a starting rotation and pending opponent and who sees who first... start with Mind Blast, and the throw all your DoTs. If you are in Arena or solo fighting in World PvP use your shadow fiend early for the extra damage and not for the mana. (Silence is obvious to have if it is a PvP build, so make sure that you use it on other casters, especially mages. Other caster class have so many instant cast spells it may not be worth the GCD unless you recognize what they are casting... ie, wait for a heal to be cast by the Shammie prior to silencing...)

For PvP stats - Get your hit up and you have an extra 3% from talents already, then focus on Stamina and crit next. I will assume you know to get your resillience up quickly also, but if you are doing arena you will get equipment to boost it fast anyway. Hit is by far the most important stat in PvP until you cap the 5% mark. I prefer stamina as enough of it gets me one more cast before dying.

Thanks for help guys,

My current talent tree for PVP Shadow is:
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?priest=5032203000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000005323221223112023152311351&glyph=040310060103&version=9722#

it seems to be working ok at the mo.

Chris... let me ask you a question... are you dual specced? Or is this spec what you use for every day purposes and not only PvP. (If Dual specced then read on, if not, I would say you are good to go for PvP/PvE)

If this is just a straight PvP spec I would suggest a couple of things. In PvP you normally will not last long enough to worry about long cool downs and/or threat. So I would eliminate Shadow Affinity as the mana return will not matter in typical PvP fights and you do not worry about aggro whatsoever. This would give you 3 points. Your choice is then to either move one of them to reduce your cooldown on Mindblast so that you can then dump the 2 points you have in Veiled Shadows thus giving you 4 more points, or just leave it the way it is if you find yourself snared often.

Those 3 points would go into (1 point) Inner Focus, which for initial burst damage or for a quick cast when mana is an issue gives you a high percent chance to crit on Mind Blast or SW:D as your last hit before dying pending on cooldowns. Another point to max out Inner Fire for the additional 15% spell damage increase, which is only 18 more spell power, but every bit helps in PvP. Lastly, you can either reduce the casting time of Mana Burn to help burn down opposing mages or add some extra defense through your shield, as in most PvP you will have this up at every opportunity. (Speaking of shield and PvP, what are your glyphs? I actually am still glyphed for shield for shadow strictly for when I world PvP as it gives me a nice heal, and while it is not ideal for dps, I do a lot of world PvP so it makes sense for me.)

Thanks for the info WhiskeyDuck,
I am dual specced, with my main talent tree being disc healing for pve. I mainly use my PVP gear in WG and other battlegrounds, but also useful for when i get attacked while out doing daily quests and stuff being on a PVP realm, as with my original healing spec i had no chance to survive!!

I want to get into Arenas soon, but waiting till i have some decent resiliance gear first.

Glyphs i have are:
Major: Fade, dispersion, Inner fire
Minor: Shadowfiend, Fading, levitate

If i drop Major Fade for Shield, would the others be about right for PVP?

I think you should be on the right track, and again, talents are based more on what you are used to doing for PvP. Everyone has their own view of the best, and while some people say the cookie cutter builds are best, how do you choose to play your toon is often more important for what talents you grab. For PvP glyphs in Shadow spec I would recommend the following:

Major: (I would dump all of your major glyphs besides maybe dispersion. Based on my recommendations, Fade has limited utility to you now, Inner Fire, the armor increase helps a wee bit, but does not help in damage and you have to be able to kill quickly, so my recommendations are below. Pending on how you play, sub Shield for dispersion...)

Shadow: increase your damage by 10% of your spirit after a critical. Anything to increase burst damage is important, and as a priest, this should give you an easy 50+ spell power. In pvp, if one on one, pop inner focus and then mind blast for a hopeful crit. Then your next few spells receive the bonus effect.

SW Pain: Increse damage of your mind flay when SW P is up and running. Combine this with the talent to renew SWP and it makes a ton of sense to use this glyph at all times whether PvP or PvE.

Shield: As I stated, a nice 1k + heal is a heal you normally do not get in Shadowform. Ideally, if you are the aggressor, you can pop a shield to begin your cooldown, attack, and by the time your shield drops, you get the benefit of the heal and the shield. Combine this with the timely use of dispersion, and you will be very successful in 1 vs 1 PvP.

Minor:
I think you are on the right path just for the sake of utility. Plus, I have one several fights by jumping off cliffs and waiting halfway before popping levitate. Make others think that if I jumped that they can do. Nothing like watching them splat while you float. Shadowfiend, not real helpful in PvP, but again for PvE it is useful. Fade is good, especially if you dump your threat talents as described in my previous post.
