Morning all!

I have a question that I haven't seen covered in any of the stickies or previous posts.

Our naxx10 group consists of 3 hunters, a warlock, a mage, 2 pally healers, one priest healer a pally tank and a DK-tank.

The two other hunters are Survival and I'm MM.
I'm always top2 dps together with the lock.
I give a 10% AP buff to the hunters.
Would it be good to have one go BM for ferocious inspiration buff?
That way we would all complement each other.
I would suggest to have the SV hunter with the lowest dps switch to BM.

Any thoughts will be appreciated!

The dps difference is too big to make that a good choice in my opinion.
Just tell the weakest SV hunter to get better, much better way to improve your raid's dps.

Hmm

For instance on patchwerk naxx10
Lock 3500dps
Me 3300dps
Mage 3100dps
SV hunter 1 2800dps
SV hunter 2 1800dps

I think he wouldn't lose too much dps, as there is almost nothing to lose lol.
AND he would give us a 3% damage increase, upping our dps as well..
He would stay around and estimated 1800 or 1900 or even more, as he doesn't have to worry about shot priorities anymore,
his pet will be doing the most damage..

SV and BM "rotations" are really very similar.
Seriously, it's a much better solution to help him get better than to try and force things that won't really work.

Both your SV hunters need help though.
And if you can, post a WWS please.

I'll try to get WWS to work
I've installed the client, but I'm not sure how to use it..
Will keep you updated!
And thanks already

You'll have to log your raid.
best way to do that is to install an addon like Loggerhead that will automatically do it for you if you are in a zone you want to log.
Then, once you're done with the raid you start the WWS client and upload the log.

1800 DPS is sad, if he's doing that I'd keep him out of raids altogether until he improved.

Make the low-DPS Hunter get hit-capped.

Okay, that might not be the problem, but it's an easier one to fix than failing at shot priority.

Take him to a faction's capital city, sit him down in front of a level 80 training dummy, and don't let him back into raids until he can hit at LEAST 2200 DPS unbuffed.

If he just can't do it, send him back to Heroics.

Dwarf,

To be honest, I would recommend to your third hunter to get a free membership to these forums and have him do some research on his class here and EJ. He can read over the thread you had earlier on Survival and I would even have him use the mod I suggested for shots -> TellMeWhen. Have him practice on the target dummy while grouped with you. Don't give him any buffs, but that way your recount log will show what his DPS is and will also give you a breakdown of what shots he is firing and how often. This should help you give suggestions to increase his DPS output. Like others have stated, BM isn't the best option since playstyle of hunters have become similiar. The only difference is 1-2 shots. If he isn't pulling his weight in SV chances are he will be miserable as BM.

If you do have him install TellMeWhen make sure he sets one cell as Lock and Load to give him a good visual when to fire off his explosives. If you are running a UI mod like XPerl it will also show you what spells he is firing off by his avatar. All of these should help you out.

Good luck!

Installed Loggerhead today.
This thursday I'll get the wws from patchwerk and will look into it as well as post it here.
It's not his gear, nor his Hit, because he has 175hit or so and 3/3 focus aim.
Those are three points he could have used differently if he had gemmed and enchanted for hit, but still, that can't make him do only 1800dps..
Guess we'll have to wait and see

Btw here's his armory [link=http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Anachronos&cn=Durabrite&gn=Minions+Of+Fate]http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Anachronos&cn=Durabrite&gn=Minions+Of+Fate[/durabite]

3 points in Improved Arcane Shot (in a build with Explosive Shot, no less) is not a good idea at all. As Survival the only time he should be using Arcane Shot is when fighting creatures that are immune to fire.

The three points in Focused Aim are hurting him as well, he really needs to get hit-capped through gear so he can spend those points on talents that increase his damage.

With no points in GftT, his pet is probably starved for focus, too.
#13REDACTED, Posted: Apr 21 2009 at 11:14 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 3 hunters is overkill. Ditch the failhunter and get a different ranged dps, preferably a caster. This way, not only will yer raid dps likely improve, but you dont have so many people to roll against. Win-Win

@ Ysiris : I know, I gave him the link to these forums and I posted complete gem, enchant and spec list on our guild forum
Like I said, this thursday I'll have the report so I know where it's going wrong.
@ Zaikimaliki : I know it's overkill, I've lost the roll on my T7 shoulders to him last week after three-manning Heigan!
I felt he was there due to the tank, healer and me not dieing but he didn't have the decency not to roll...

It also depends on who you can get to show up consistently so you can run the instance without pugging. There really isn't anything wrong with having 3 hunters in the raid.

This is also a sticky issue. I mean we ARE trying to increase this hunter's DPS and upgrades will help do that- as long as he implements other things as well. Loot kinda wrecks the game- you need it to perform the best that you can, but there are people who are obsessed with it. The best thing to do would be to put limitations on loot during the run. Normal pug rules are one epic and one tier. IF a player is starting to collect many epic items, the tier is forfeited. For our guild, the hunters talk among themselves and we work out what pieces are better for what characters so this issue isn't a problem. (OR you could use a DKP system also)

Ok so yesterday we had a fresh run.
I logged the raid through loggerhead.
I found the combatlog in my Wow folder -> users/public/games/worldofwarcraft
I think it was wowCombatlog.txt
But when I tried to upload it said The log was too long (12hours or so)
Is there any way to narrow it down? Could I open it and delete some stuff that wasn't useful?

Oh, and for the first time I broke the 4k barrier on Loatheb -> 4347dps!!
Felt good, a shame the shoulders didn't drop though..

If it says the log is too long it means that there's a difference of over 12 hours in the times of the log.
Basically what you'll have to do is open the document and delete all but the log from the raid you want to upload.

And yes, that sucks major ***.

To prevent my brain sploding from too much exposure to numbers, I mostly looked at the Patchwerk stuff.

Steady Shot was his highest damage ability, under autoshot.

He spent a third of the time in Aspect of the Viper, which would hurt anyone's DPS.

Looking at the other boss fights overall it seems like the Viper thing wasn't a constant, he probably just messed up once (still worth getting him some kind of notifier addon though) but his steadies were pretty much always doing more of his damage than I think they ought to, so it looks like getting the shot priority down is his biggest concern. Either that, or he had the priority right, but was clipping the DoT off resulting in lower explosive shot damage.

Well, first of all he desperately needs to respec.
Then he needs to dump Glyph of HM and get glyph of Kill shot.
He also needs to regem to all Agility and +Hit instead of AP and crit.
And his leatherworking is stuck at 240... it needs to be 400 to give any benefit.

On to the WWS:
Looking at patchwerk only, he shot 30 explosive shots in 4 minutes.
240 / 6 = 40 possible explosive shots not including Lock and Load, being at 75% of that is really bad.

12 Aimed shots in 240 seconds is one every 20 seconds, half of what it should be.

30 Serpent Sting ticks is 90 seconds worth of Serpent Sting so (90/240*100=) 37.5, a 37.5% uptime on serpent sting. Pretty awful.

30 Black Arrow Ticks is 90 seconds of black arrow, once more a 37.5% uptime, not as awful as the serpent sting uptime but it's still only 75% of what it should be considering his spec.

Basically, he completely fails at prioritizing shots.

How well do you know this guy? How long has he been playing a hunter? WOW. I can't believe how badly that WWS looks. It seems like he kinda knows what he is doing but then again... likes to watch the evening news while running raids. o.O

I think Aethien had some mod that showed shots... TellMeWhen which is actually a great mod, I know it helped me immensely. One thing to note on it tho, make sure you use the interface menu that blizzard has to create more cells for you to use since Survival now has Lock and Load, Black Arrow, Serpent Sting, Multi-Shot (or Aimed), Explosive Shot and any other buffs/debuffs you are concerned about. There is also an option for more than one bar to be displayed... it's a very neat mod!

Dwarf:

I just checked this guy again and man, he's just not getting it. Some things for him to rework on his toon...

Build:
1) Get rid of focused aim, you'll get hit later in this guide
2) Loose Hawk Eye
3) Get Trap Mastery
4) Get Wyvern Sting
5) Get Noxious Stings
6) Take a point or 2 out of Hunting Party
7) Take a point out of Expose Weakness
8) Pick up Focused Fire after Filling IAotH

Gear:
1) Get rid of the Glad helm, at least put a hit gem in it.
2) Get shoulder enchants... PvP at least
3) Loose the Giantmaim bracers, get the blue crafted ones, they have hit.... PURPLEZ IZ NOT BETTER!
4) Get an accuracy enchant.. more hit
5) Get new trinkets... the badge one and heroic Nexus is win for now... Nexus gives you hit.
6) Get new gems for chest... Agility and Hit would probably be an idea...

Has this guy picked up the prioritization of shots? How is his DPS coming?

EDIT: spelling.. gah!

Trap mastery is only about 1% dps increase for 3 talent points, on progression content Hawk Eye is much better in my opinion because it allows you some leeway in reducing movement to the minimum and helps a bit in being able to react to situations (for example with a clutch misdirect on a tank far away when something goes wrong)

Well, he rerolled a druid as his main, I think he had a 53 druid stabled somewhere, he now got it to 80 and even ran naxx10 with us.
I must say his healing is better than his dps.
So I just leave it be, not worth the trouble..
Got another case now though : http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Anachronos&n=Thorayy

at least he's almost hitcapped now, but I told him to go SV which he didn't do obviously.
See how it goes next week...
