It's always been my understanding that the best leveling spec is BM, which is the spec I currently have. My question is at what level would it benefit me to switch to Survival so I can "learn" how to play it properly? I'm currently sitting at 59 and will hit 60 before the end of the weekend. Until recently I hadn't played my Hunter for quite some time. Thanks for any advice.

You don't need to.
BM and SV "rotations" are very alike.
You've got a 10 second cooldown (multi or aimed), a 6 second cooldown (arcane) and a 15(21) second DoT now.
SV at lvl 80 has the exact same, only with a 26 second cooldown (Black Arrow) and Lock and Load added in.
Lock and Load is easy to adjust to, as all you do when it procs is shoot 3 explosive shots in a row (wait a bit after the GCD to make sure it doesn't clip) and adding in Black arrow shouldn't be very hard if you're used to the rest.

And next time, the HELP ME thread is a better place for questions like this.

If your soloing you may as well stay BM, in SV your pets have a much harder time holding aggro so you'll find that if your trying to kill things 2-3 levels above yourself it'll be much harder when they start pounding you in the face instead of your pet. Granted there are things like kiting to keep them out of your face but it would just be easier to stay BM

Thanks for the input. And next time I have a question like this I'll use the HELP ME thread.

And, I used this thread, since I had the same question and I am also a L59 hunter needing to know what advice is out there from others. Thanks for starting the thread and now I can point to the HELP ME thread, too, which is excellent btw. :-)
