#1 Apr 16 2009 at 5:25 PM Rating: Good
Hi all,

I am a Combat Fist Rogue and I was just browsing the Thottbot Rogue Forum and found the most spectacular Combat Spec Bashing ever seen. It had me in tears rofl.

Instead of posting that "wall of text" here is the link to the page http://thottbot.com/v3812025?page=4

It is at the bottom of the page, about 4 posts up.

Enjoy.

That's something I could've typed up, 2 years back. I'm just not sure if he's actually serious, but his point is somewhat valid. Made me giggle though.

The main problem in this thread is that you were browsing Thottbot.

Thottbot is my first stop usually tbh. Just keep scrolling til you find a yellow comment with the co-ords or w/e you needed.

Wowhead or you're bad, tbh.

/agree

Wowhead is more detailed, less chaotic, doesn't ***** itself over with errors as much and doesn't have any kiddies who don't know what the hell they're talking about.

Not that we really should be discussing that, though.

I'd remove Thottbot from my bookmarks forever, if wowhead would just let you enter the quest name in the search field (as opposed to looking through a list of continents, zones/sub-zones and finally a long-*** list of quests).

Just while we are on the subject, should I stay Combat Fists while I am leveling (only lvl 66) or should I switch to Mutilate & get another good Dagger in my hand?

I have been Combat since I used my first Talent Point & I enjoy the fighting style I use but with the recent changes in 3.1 I would consider making the leap to Mut.

What do you all think?

You should do what you like the best. IF you get a decent dagger to replace your fist weapon and you want to try out Mutilate, then go for it. There isn't a spec that you "have" to level as.

It is all personal preference, tbh.

Dual spec combat/muti. Switch based on weapon drops.

Uh, you can do that.

Example: looking for the quest "Blood is Thicker" (new fishing daily)

1) Start typing "blood is"

2) Watch as Blood is Thicker is your second option by the time you finish typing "is".

3) ???

4) Profit.

Thottbot sucks. Hard.

Thanks Theo, point taken lol.

I just started out using Thott & it is a bit of a habit. I also use WoWhead & a couple of others. Thott is just so damn fast & I am used to how it appears on screen & how the links work.

I will avoid it if "the Master" says so.

Woah, it DOES work. Buhbye thottbot.

Monoball, i would personally go mutilate if you're still leveling around 66. Maybe a build something like this:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#fGxcoeMoiboIzZ0xZxbc

Remorseless Attacks is nice to get 5 CP guaranteed on a target after a Cheap Shot, Mutilate opener. Then a 5 point evis that gives you 25 energy back. With overkill, you should be able to instantly Mutilate and evis again. Mobs are dead before the cheap shot stun wears off. Throw in cold blood anytime you want a spectacular 5 point eviscerate crit.

I'd probably invest into Serrated Blades, Precision and Close Quarters Combat as more talent points become available.

edit: As far as major glyphs go, Mutilate and Vigor are both good, the former especialy to get 45 energy Mutilates from stealth.

Awsome!

Thanks for that. I only need another 150G to get my "Dual Spec Talents" so will find a Dagger in the meantime and use that build as a template as I will probably be 67 by the time I get the Gold, unless I go farming for minerals for a few days (I only get to play about an hour a day during the week while the Mrs is at work lol).

I suppose there will be a steep learning curve for the Mutilate Spec? Any basic tips apart from what you already suggested as a rotation? Should I use some sort of addon for CD counters? Have read a few comments regarding these in the forums.

Thanks again.

Nah.

WP/WP, slow/slow.

CS (wait for poisons) -> mut -> mut -> evis, dead mob. KS if the mob isn't at less than 50% HP after your muts.

When you say slow/slow are you meaning Daggers?

Obviously, since mutilate requires daggers to work.

I took the opportunity to respec as Mutilate with the new patch but I lost over 5% Crit doing it, & my Damage nearly halved using 2 x Daggers, was Combat Fist. Will the benefits of this spec outweigh the losses?

I know, they are only Greens I picked up in AH but I do not Raid yet or do much PvP as I am trying to just level atm.

Armory hasnt updated yet to show my new spec.

You probably don't have capped dagger skill, ergo lower crit. It makes absolutely no sense to lose 5% crit unless you were using fists.

Keep in mind you get 15% crit on mutilates from Puncturing Wounds.

He should have copied the spec i linked :)

You don't need precision if you're leveling as mutilate (you should be attacking lower level mobs, and normal white damage is a much lower proportion of your total damage to a mob)

Master of deception is a pvp talent. 3/3 camo and 2/2 fleet footed are better (because you need to start in stealth to cheap shot). You'll be running the same speed as a normal character, in stealth

Relentless strikes is awesome too, to finish off the target after eviscerate, or get onto the next one more quickly.

I think Theo's right, your dagger weapon skill is just low. Even if you lose some crit from having inferior weapons, you have Cold Blood now. Mut is just a more fun spec. Less cooldown watching, less tedious sinister strike spam. More face-melting double mutilate crits. Wa-CHIK!

Unfortunately, that's a bit incorrect.

So your rank of stealth reduces your move speed by 30%. (Thanks Wowhead.)
You're sneaking around funkily due to the graphics change in 3.1, at 70% of your speed.
Ok, so you decide to talent Camouflage.
Woo! A bonus 15% of that speed, or 10.5% of the original 100, is added. You're now at 80.5% speed.
Now you talent Fleet Footed.
80.5%*.15=12.075%.
80.5%+12.075%=92.575% of your original speed, but remember, you have Fleet Footed, so you're going at 92.575% instead of 115%.
To the ones unit, Carbonite's built-in speed tracker is an easy way to confirm this. You also shouldn't really need to stealth until you're like... 11 yards away from an enemy, especially if they are lower level, as you said earlier. It's much better to go deep enough into Assass to pick up CttC and HfB, if you know how to use those talents efficiently. If you're at 66, you can talent two in Opportunity, start filling out Relentless Strikes, and then DWS. From then, the difference in leveling speed made by your talent choices is hardly visible.

I thought that low weapon skill only meant a low chance to hit, and that's not reflected anywhere on your character sheet except where it says Daggers: X/Y.

And yes Theo, Monoball stated he's using fists, so that would explain the 5% less crit. Unfortunately Combat spec is mainly a thing of the past post-50 when Mut is just such a powerful tool when you can start with full energy in each fight.

OMG!!!! I wish I had been Mutilate earlier!

I made my last post above just after I respecced but before I actually tried out my new abilities. I did make a few booboos choosing my talents. I didn't realise til after I confirmed but will change it next time I am online & make sure I have the other PC switched on so I can follow your instructions about my Talent Build to the letter. It is a difficult thing to put points in a build I have never used before but I trust the knowledge & experience all of you have on this forum (with a few exceptions but they are very obvious lol).

I am owning the same beasts in Outlands in half the time without taking a hit. Awsome! But I do miss having blade flurry for multiple mobs. It will just take me a while to learn my new rotations & change the way I approach my fights.

Thanks for all your help.

P.S. Anyone on this Forum play on Bronzebeard? It would be nice to get some tips "in-game" as it is sometimes easier to watch & learn than read & learn for me.

Blind should give you ample time to finish one mob and start on the other.

Nowhere near as fun as kspree + BF, though.
