Suggestion for a New DruidFollow

Well hello again community. I'm a very new player to Warcraft. I don't have any characters over level 40, and i'm having a hard time finding one that I really enjoy and just KNOW that is my character. So I thought I would try out a Druid. I will tell you what I'm really wanting out of a character, and maybe you can suggest a talent spec to follow, or if from what I am looking for Druid really isn't the best fit, perhaps a suggestion of where to look.

I want a group based character. I hate to solo. Unfortunately, I understand that solo play is a big part of the leveling process in this game, so I will suck it up :) Primarily though, I want to be attractive to groups. I have a paladin already that I am using with a Protection setup, and that is fun, so I'd rather kind of shy away from tanking. I want to be able to survive for the questing I will have to do by myself. PvP I dunno -- I might spend some time doing it at lower levels, but I wouldn't list that among my top concerns.

Endgame I plan on being very active. I have always enjoyed raids and large group events in other games, and I'd like a character that will see use in this area.

Well that about sums it up. If there is more information you need to help me make a good choice, please feel free to ask. Otherwise I look forward to your responses while we wait for the servers to come back up!

Thanks!
Serena

I'd say go balance but with the overwhelming amount of feral druids in this board I'd feel I'd go unoticed... So I decided to do it this way.

If you enjoy pew pewing baddies from a distance, balance is for you.

If you like beating the hell out of things with weapons (in our case claws) go feral.

If you want to level slowly go resto.

What I love the most about druid is the versatility.

As the above poster mentioned, you can level very efficiently as feral. In addition, if you maintain an additional set of gear that is appropriate for healing, you can find groups more easily, especially with the new dual specs system. As a new player, you may not have the funds available to afford this, but even then you can heal fairly well as feral with a correct set of resto gear.

In the end game, healers of all classes are in demand (so are tanks) but you can also make a name for yourself as a DPS. It's just more difficult as there is a lot more competition.

As a druid, you can fill all the possible roles in a group, and you can accomplish almost anything by yourself. The ability to stealth around, to switch to an unstoppable bear, to heal your friends or blast your ennemies from afar, all with the same character, is amazing. It does take a lot of dedication to master all of the many aspects of the class and gear appropriately for them, but this is part of the challenge (and fun!).

You can of course succeed in endgame with any class, even if sometimes some classes are better, it varies from patch to patch. So you are best served by picking a class for its spirit and not its current state of power.

Never.

Feral levels fastest as the killing resource is separate from the healing resource.

However if you don't like the play style then it will seem longer.

Level to the cap. Not much grouping before then.

Mess around with the various specs and find what you like best. I would suggest going feral till you have some Outland gear. The other play styles are very poorly itemized until then.

Start at the bottom of this spec and work your way up. Very solo/cat centric but unfortunately that is how the game works until closer to end game. This will take you to Mangle ask again then.

Again once you hit Outland it will be easier to go into Balance or Resto as the gear better supports it then. Plus you can get easy instance runs healing Dks as they level.

^^ I dragged my twin to Warcraft a few months ago. We both came from a long history of FFXI (Which is an MMO that basically required you to party to even level from about 10 on), she really enjoys the healer play style and I have always liked close combat melee and tanking. She, like you is not a big fan of solo play and despite my fair warnings as you have gotten, actually manged in this late stage of the game to level about half of her levels via group play in Instances. Overwhelmingly with people her same level, not high levels just giving her a freebie run. Granted we are on a high population realm but if you look for it, you'll find it. I sure didn't think she would so I'm glad to say I was wrong. :3

Thanks for all of the replies! So far my Druid is 16, and I have been leveling as Feral. I am glad to hear that I will still be able to heal a group if I can equip myself properly for it even without spec'ing Restoration -- a Druid I asked in game said it would be a waste of time to even bother trying. Glad to hear the contrary, as that versatility is one of the major things that drew me to Druid.

Dual Spec! I feel completely ridiculous that I didn't even know about this. Until I was reading responses here, I didn't even know anything about this, but now I'm super pumped for it! Would it be fair to say then that if I dual spec Feral / Resto, I will literally have the best of almost all worlds? I know I know, Druid is hybrid so master of none, but what I mean is, going that route, I will be an efficient tank (bear) an efficient DPS (cat) and an efficient Healer (Resto)? If so, I can't wait for the servers to spawn!

Don't feel bad. Dual spec. has only been available on the live servers for 4 days (the day you posted would have been the 1st day is was available to anyone Level 40 or above with 1000G in their pocket).

Druids are a blast. I am still playing with the dual spec setup (currently: Feral Tank/Resto) but so far I have not had more than a few minutes of downtime when looking for a group.

Welcome to WoW and the druid community!

Happy hunting!
