PTR Build checkFollow

I just built this as an idea of what to go when 3.1 hits. With Desecration being changed to give a 5% increase to damage, I took it, throwing off what my build had been. I have all the points I need in Unholy, but I now lack the points to finish filling out Dark Conviction. Is this the right build, or does it need some tweeks? http://ptr.wowhead.com/?talent=jfVMmZZfM0Ixcdxcq0csut

A. Desecration has ALWAYS been +5% to damage. The only difference in 5/5 Des in 3.1 is that SS procs it.

B. Your build looks fine to me.

C. Remember that Desc won't help much on highly mobile fights. If you are willing to respec for those instances, you may want to lose it for points in Dirge, IUP, IIT, RPW, or the last in Dark Conviction.

Anyone thinking of going Frost for some PvP?

I'm planning on going Battleground and World PvP once I reach level 80, but I'm having doubts about what glyphs and talents to get.

Major Glyphs
- Obliterate
- Hungering Cold
- Howling Blast / Frost Strike

Minor Glyphs
- Death's Embrace
- Horn of Winter
- Raise Dead

Glyph of Frost Strike will allow me to unleash an extra Frost Strike on a full runic power tank, but I rarely find myself in a situation where I would need to spend so much time and runic power on Frost Strike. Usually Howling Blast or Obliterate would be ready before I got the third Frost Strike off. In which case I'm guessing Glyph of Howling Blast is better, because it means I don't have to waste a Frost rune on reapplying Icy Touch once the ball is rolling, so to speak.

Minor glyphs were easy enough. Horn of Winter, Death's Embrace and I picked Raise Dead over Pestilence because of Death Pact. Not sure if the Pestilence glyph applies the range to the initial cast or the "jump" effect. I have it now and Pestilence seems to jump pretty far, about 15 yards. I'm guessing the default jump range of Pestilence is 10 yards. I don't think the extra five yards are needed in BG PvP.

As for talents, it's pretty much the same as pre-patch, except things have been switched around. I'm considering getting Improved Frost Presence, though. 10% extra health while in Blood/Unholy Presence and 2% less damage taken in Frost Presence. Considering the maximum health people are rolling with at level 80, I'd guess it to be an extra 2-3000 health for two talent points. Not too bad, in my opinion.

I also took 3/5 Toughness over Runic Power Mastery for the same reason I figured Glyph of Frost Strike wasn't all that useful. I rarely find myself in a situation where I need more than 100 runic power, especially since Hungering Cold cost is reduced to 0 with the glyph. Means I can focus my runic power on Frost Strikes and self-healing through Lichborne+DC. Maybe it was a mistake, though. I just figured 9% extra armor value was better than an excess of runic power.

I've skipped Icy Reach, because I'm not sure if those 10 yards matter all that much. Sure, it's nice being able to pull with Icy Touch and I guess it's decent for kiting or to prevent being kited, but is it worth two talent points? Is it worth sacrificing armor value and some other talent for? Beats me.

The Blood talents are pretty much the same. Blade Barrier is still superior to Butchery I take it. Probably even better now as it mitigates all damage instead of raising parry chance. I still have 3/5 Bladed Armor, because if we go with 15000 armor, it would be an extra 250 attack power, which I'm guessing is still a bit at level 80.

So, yeah, here's my planned BG/WPvP Frost DK build, come patch 3.1.

Hopefully the link works.

I don't know much about PvP as a DK, but I do like the fact that with the HB glyph and Chillblains, your HBs alone would always make sure your opponents (anyone in the HB range) had a 50% snare. Pretty sexy (even without considering the damage).

It is too bad you can't fit Glyph of Rune Tap in there. You are already at 20%, it would have been good to make it 30% and 10% to the party. Then again, this wouldn't be that good outside of Arena/In a BG because you will often be far, far away from your party members.

I imagine your strategy would be to apply IT (and maybe PS) and pest it to everyone, then HB and BB. After that, you would HB every 10 seconds for the damage and snare, Oblit your main targets and BB or BS (or RT) on your BRs...

Doesn't seem bad to me. Keeps you kinda dependent on trying to group enemies together, though, instead of single target damage. Not using PS and not Pesting really means you want everything in your HB AoE at all times--it could get annoying to select the right target.

Too bad Icy Reach doesn't boost AoE range. XD

Fixed your build, Mazra.

FS/Oblit majors are required for frost PvP builds. Getting 3 vs 4 FSs in one bar of RP (with RPM, which is also needed for burst) is a big deal.

HB/HC major is pretty much based on what you're doing. For 2s, HB is a waste, and HC is much better, as it allows you to HC and go right into a OBx5/FSx5 burst, which will almost 100% for sure kill your target.

With 50% snare being added to IT (i.e. Chilblains), there's no need for EW; put those points in Merciless Combat.

Imp Frost Presence is crap for PvP.

Were this an arena build, I'd suggest going into Virulence over Imp Rune Tap, as it gives more benefit in an arena situation, as it basically "hides" your Chilblains debuff better.
