What should my DPS at this point?Follow

#1 Apr 09 2009 at 5:14 PM Rating: Default
Hello

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Bloodhoof&n=Sushis

is my armory link.

im FFB, and i really really enjoy it. The main thing about this spec is crit i think?

im not using Fire Blast in my rotation, is that correct?
second, im doing about 2.2k dps on dummies, and it peaks about 2.5k depending on crits.
but in 5 mans i sink down to 1.6k??? is this supposed to happen?

and with my gear is that the appropriate DPS I should be getting?
Also, is Fire a good 5 man spec?

The armory is currently down for maintenance. I'll try to look later.

Crit is a big part, yes, but don't neglect spellpower either. You want a good balance of both, with some haste and hit thrown in for good measure.

There are some times when fireblast is good, but for the most part, you'll want to avoid it. Movement or when an enemy is about to die are good examples of when to hit it.

There are big differences between dummies and mobs in instances. To name a few:

1)Dummies do not die. Mobs in instances, however, have an annoying tendency to die while there's still ignite unspent on them.
2)Dummies last forever. Mobs often do not allow you to fully ramp up your DPS before dying(Living bomb + scorch applications), or if they do, they die before you can make use of it.
3)Dummies do not eat your face. Mobs in instances, however, will in fact do so if you pull aggro from the tank. The highest DPS player in the world will find their DPS severely lowered if they run with a bad or even mediocre tank.
4)Dummies do not do AoEs. Mobs, on the other hand, often do. Horrifying AoEs you must move to avoid, thus leading you to lose much DPS.
5)Dummies do not interrupt/silence you. Mobs on the other hand... *grumbles something about Strangulate that's best left unwritten*

As an exercise, have two friends come down to a dummy with you. Have one tank and watch your threat vs him. Have the other occasionally call out "AOE, MOVE!" or cast some ground targeted AoE on you so you can practice moving out of it. See what your DPS comes out to on the dummy like that.

DPS is based on more than just your gear.

It is based on your rotation, how long the mob lasts, if there is AoE (that you are doing, or receiving), the buffs that you receive from your party/raid.

I would say with blues/epics you should be pushing 2k pretty easily -- I look at that as the bare minimum for class knowledge and gear. Fully geared/buffs/etc a decent mage should be pumping out between 4 and 5 (or more) thousand dps.

A good 5man spec would be arcane as it doesn't require molten fury range (which is super short in 5mans) and has cooldowns with a shortcooldown that buff your dps by a large amount.

In 5man content you need to AOE.

My mage is only 75 and putting out 1.1k. That means he's 5 levels behind you and you are beating him by only 500 DPS. My Guess is that you are not an AOE hog. If there are 3 or more mobs - there should be a red ring on the ground or ice shards falling from the sky...

I'm a tank, so don't be stupid about it - learn to use it and when to stop using it, but if my Pally has > 3 mobs on him. Give me time to Hammer, Shield, Consecrate - Roughly about 3.5 seconds on most trash... Then just spam away.

You're DPS will jump...

Im spec'd Arcane+PoM Pyro and ive put out 2200 dps on a tank n spank boss.on average im at around 1800dps. Currently im lvl 77 with basically all blues so maybe you should give arcane a shot... IMO SP>Int>Haste>Crit. Int raises crit and mana which as arcane is very important since your mana pool get a workout. Arcane is ABx3 missle barrage when proc'd or Abarr. throw in a PoM pyro here and there for good measure and you will prob. be seeing some higher #'s numbers.

I am a fan of arcane, but I also dual speced FFB

For arcane I would AE trash packs..I am a gutsy mage and in 5 mans I will AE using arcane explosion. Single target mobs i go into a ab,ab,ab, missle/ABarr rotation. is mana is an issue use your abilities and get it back right away.

with FFB spec i would ae trash packs with Blizzard and for bosses I would LB,Scorch,
and unload with frostfire and instant cast pyroblasts

I stopped using pom pyro a long time ago. you can do alot more dps by pom Arcane Blast or if you want to snare something a pom FFB is in order. pom arcane blast just stacks the damage faster. Also comes handy when getting jumped by pvpers open with a AB,Pom AB, and a barrage or missle chain to finish off whoever attacks you. As far as farming and doing daily for the most part I can 2-3 shot most things.
