Tanking and Sacred ShieldFollow

#1 Apr 09 2009 at 3:51 AM Rating: Decent
Does anyone use Sacred Shield on themselves while tanking? I have never done this personally. I was thinking this morning about ways to reduce damage on my paladin. I would bet that this is common knowledge, but throwing it out there anyways :)

Oh, and this is me :)

Always. I created a macro to self cast the spell on myself.. its almost like a block and i believe it scales with Spell dmg..

You don't need a macro. Just have self-cast turned on in the options.

Anyway, no I never have used this on myself, but that's because I always have a Holy Paladin in raids with me. In 5 mans without a Holy Paladin, the damage isn't enough to warrant its use.

In a situation though where you are in a raid, without a Holy Paladin, this would be of some use. I just personally haven't been in that situation :)

We have one paladin tank in our raid lineup, and he uses it sporadically (I'm holy and I have Grid set up to show it so that I don't overwrite another one with mine). Haven't detected any rhyme or reason when he does use it, and it's possible that he only does when he notices that he hasn't gotten it from a healer. With the upcoming nerf (only one SS up per caster), it will be more important for every paladin to keep one up, even with multiple in the raid.

As a healer, I use it, um, religiously. No reason not to shield a paladin or DK, and SS isn't powerful enough to rage-starve a warrior or bear. Although this might change with 3.1, at least for Ret - but Ret would be shielding themselves, not the tank, and even with the improved version, Holy doesn't have enough SP to make it a true bubble.
