Have I been Misinformed?Follow

First things first here's my armory. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Burning+Blade&n=Chillifart.

What my problem is that 2 weeks ago I was top 3 in dps for my guild in Naxx. and now I can't crack the top 10. About 2 weeks ago I was talking to another hunter in guild and he told my he was looking at my gear and noticed I was stacking AP enchants and gems and as a SV I should be stacking haste and agi. Not being much of a numbers guy I took his advice and regemmed.

Is this the reason my DPS has dropped?

I have been equipping what I have researched as the best gear that I have in slots also, but I do have some Valorous pieces too in my bank. Is combining lesser pieces to get set bonus's
better than equipping the better gear?

As I have said before I am not much of a numbers guy so any advice I could get would really be appreciated....Thanks

Though Ag isn't really the end-all stat that it was in BC, it is still substantially better in some cases, so without going in depth into your toon, that could be the problem, but it's not likely to bring you down 7 spots.

Can't check your armory, but switching from AP to Agility as SV can not possibly in any way have reduces your dps unless you replaced rare Northrend gems by green outlands gems.

To explain it all, kind of quickly.
1 agility = 2 Attack Power in itemvalue (just check gems it's 32 AP or 16 agility.)

With raidbuffs 1 agility becomes 1.25 agility (Lightning reflexes and kings), 0.125 attack power from +10% AP buff and 0.3125 AP from Expose weakness, making for a total of 1.6875 AP and ~0.015% crit gained.

2 attack power becomes 2.2 attack power (from +10% AP buff).

The difference is 0.015% crit vs 0.5125AP, and crit is simply worth a lot more there.
It is not very clear with these small numbers but lets scale them up a hundred times.
After raidbuffs, the difference between 100 agility and 200 attack power for a SV hunter is:
1.5% crit vs 51.25 attack power, and now it's suddenly incredibly obvious. Smiley: smile

Edit: I just noticed the haste part, NEVER EVER gem or enchant for haste.
It's just not worth it, it only affects steady shots, and those are a rather small part of your total dps.

The main benefit of haste from an SV perspective is the fact that it tightens the rotation up. if your steadies are over 1.5 seconds you'll be delaying ES slightly. However there is enough haste from gear, and it's in the end a suboptimal stat compared to agility.

I think that in the now no longer existent gem thread on EJ the author calculated (with help of the spreadsheet) that even at 0 haste 1 agility gives more dps than 1 haste rating.

Did you swap out a blue or purple gem? You don't meet the meta requirement anymore and are losing 21 agility and a 3% crit bonus.

It's amazing how often this is the answer to "why did my DPS go down when I changed gear?".

NOTE: I've done this myself.
