What tank would you prefer to Heal. I know, I know, sometimes its dependent on the situation. Aside from that, lets say in a 5 man Heroic setting, non raid, where you can only have one tank, what would it be.

Me personally, I'm a sucker for a Paladin. They are great front loading tanks and can handle single as well as multiple mobs easily. Plus with consecration up I always know where they are when I focus on the playing field and away from my health bars. Plus even better yet if its a female blood elf then I have some eye candy the entire time. Us Priests always look at the bright side. =)

Currently, DK's, because I can shield them without thinking about it, though they'll lose this advantage next patch. Paladins are probably second due to my experience in heroics with them - Love how they aggro an entire room and stand there getting 1% damage every 10 seconds. Druids are last on my list and warriors are... on par with paladins really, but lets say the number 3 for the sake of having one.

I have no favorites among the tanks I know and trust: any of the classes are fine.
If I’m going to heal a stranger, I do feel a little better if they’re a paladin or DK. Not because a skilled paladin or DK is any better than a skilled warrior or druid, but because I know if they’re not so good at noticing I’ve drawn aggro, at least I can run through their AOE to get the mobs off me.

If there was such a thing as choice I'd go with warriors exclusively. Shield Wall, Enraged Regen, and Last Stand to take care of themselves when I can't - for whatever reason - and like half a dozen tools to protect everybody else, from Intervene to Challenging Shout. Combine that with fairly linear damage taken and you have a perfect tank.

I would heal a good tank! :)

So, umm, paladins. 'Cause I have one :) My least fav? DK's. I know that till they bring some more "hero" classes into the game that DK's will be op. It's the nature of the game. But until then I'm kinda staying away from them. LOL... personal opinion.

As for my choice I'd go for paladins too. They've done a lot of work to warriors to make them on par with paladins in multi-target tanking but I still think they lag behind. Paladins have by far the flattest damage line due to their ability to remain blocked far more than warriors. They have two taunts, bubble, hand of sacrifice, hand of salvation, lay on hands a ranged multi-target pull which will build a huge amount of threat on anyone attacking me. Far superior to a warrior when there are multiple adds on me. They can DP themselves, LoH and have a passive ability to dramatically reduce damage at low health etc etc... what's not to like here.

Perhaps the main reason I'd put them ahead of others still on multi target tanking still, certainly over warriors, is that their consecrates aren't tied to their own location so they can passively protect me the healer without being near me by dropping a consecrate on me.

Having said that, I'd pick any tanking class so long as they're well played, but, the one class I don't like even when played well is the druid. They have far more damage spikes than the other tanking classes as they either dodge or take the hit, there's not much in between.

That is a nice trick I'll have to remember that.

I have a new found respect for DK tanks... Running H HoS last night (decently geared DK, Naxx25 geared hunter & disc priest (both with a few Uld25 items), and a couple of less than geared clothies (spriest&mage))

We're at Krystallus and he does his ground stomp and turns us to stone, then because the mage and spriest are too close to the hunter and me we get shattered and die... the only survivor is the DK tank. At this point Krystallus is at about 60% health or so. Soooo I take my time running back, and find that I can enter the instance even when the DK is still alive and in combat. So I put on my running shoes cast renew as I run and buff myself, and see if I can make it back in time to either help or die myself cuz the DK is dead. By the time I make it back, the DK still has 80% health and Krystallus is at 20%. Needless to say with a healer there the DK was pretty happy and finished him off with no problems.

EDIT: It took awhile to run back too as I was affected by the Petrifying Grip for the whole run.

Back to the OP'rs question though... my fav tank to heal has got to be Pallys... it's just the way it is...

Hey, can I reply to this? I'm in here reading because I've been raiding with my SPriest a lot lately, but as a pally healer my hierarchy is DK, Pally, Warrior, Bear. I will say that my experience with the Bear tank may not be valid, as our Bear tank is not as well geared as the rest.

I have learned to love healing DKs because they just don't die. The sh't has hit the fan a couple of times and I've gotten that bad feeling in the pit of my stomach - you know the one, when you're waiting for your heal to land and are sure it will be milliseconds late? - and surprise, the DK survives until my heal hits. And our guild has had to sit through sometimes a full minute of our DK tank soloing the boss after the rest of us wiped because he refuses to just stand there and get killed. "Hey, I'm trying to die, it's not my fault he hits like a wuss!" And one night I apologized to the DK tank for forcing him to blow his cool-downs, and he said "no problem, they're all real short, the longest is five minutes."

Pallies next because of the linear damage as another poster said, Bear tank last because I have the complete opposite experience with her from the DK tank, and that leaves spot number 3 for warriors.

I feel pretty much the same way. I enjoy healing for any class that I know. But when it comes to PUG's I think I enjoy running with Paladins the most. From buffs to aoe tanking goodness, they have to much to compliment and assist the healer. Just seems to make life easier.

I'm definately more about the person than the class, back in BC I would've probably gone for paladin due to the aoe tanking, but I can't say I've had any trouble with (decent) tanks losing agro on multiple mobs in Northrend instances. I don't pug much at the moment so haven't been able to form an opinion of a preferred class for an inept tank.
