Hi everyone, just a question. From what I have read in wowhead, it says that intellect gems gives spell power. So if what wowhead says is true, then should I be looking for gems that gives intellect or intellect with spell power like this one Luminous Monarch Topaz.

Another question is what kind of gems gives crit. I don;t know whether this is a right question to ask but I quite puzzled after reading this.

As I am already level 77, I need advice on this so that I can prepare in advance for gemming the right ones. Don;t want to waste gold here.

Thank you

Cheers all :)

Can you link where you read this?

Intellect gives mana and crit, it doesn't affect the potency of your spells, aka spell power. Unless there is a talent in Disc that I can't recall.

Northrend Gems for all your gemming needs.

The link Synn gave is excellent to find out what gems are available and what fits where. I am disc and if there is a talent that gives us spellpower from Int then I haven't found it. I believe there is one in the Holy tree that boosts Spellpower from Spirit called Spiritual Guidance:

As Disc I usually gem for spellpower, intellect or crit depending on what my gear is lacking at any given time. I replace gems a LOT.

Ya You guys are right...intel doesn't give spell power....spirit does. I am a lvl 450 JC so I get the 3 "JC only" gems from the dragon's eyes...and for a while now, I've used those to employ 3 +27 spirit gems. They give me the most bang for my buck. This may change a small bit after the patch but I doubt it. As for the rest of my gems...a mix of runed scarlets rubies (+19sp)and some 16 intel 16 spirit and a crit gem or 2 helps out alot. I also have one meta gem slot and i chose the +25 spell power 2% reduced threat for that one. You will find however, that you will be changing gems alot, as you get better gear or more gold to buy better gems. But if properly used...I believe they are a better enhancement than enchants. (maybe I'm biased lol)

It depends on spec too.

As holy, in my mind, the only meta gem of choice is the Insightful Earthsiege diamond(21 int, chance to restore mana on cast). A larger mana pool and mana regen proc trumps all other meta options.

Also I've found that, unlike many other classes and specs, holy tends to favor the socket bonuses(unless of course the socket bonus is +stamina), but usually I'm mixing 3 gems, 16 int for yellow sockets, 8int 8 spi for blue sockets, and 19 sp for red sockets.

Morning to all, sorri was alittle busy wif work that I wasn't able to provide the link. Anyway the here it is.

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40047#comments

Anyway I may be wrong here but I think they were referring to holy pally talents but not too sure. Anyway this was the post that I am referring.

"You forget the fact that for Holy Paladins, Int also grants spell power, and 8 Int give 2 spell power, so this gem is in fact 11 SP / 8 Int ;)"

Sorri if i have given u the incorrect info

Thank you

It's an easy mistake to make, don't worry. The gemming advice given is still valid for priests and I hope it helps.
