#1 Mar 30 2009 at 4:34 PM Rating: Decent
Ok I just hit 80 3 days ago, my dps is so low 10 mans wont let me in, my question is What is the better? Desto or Affli? I'm all Affli right now, my rotation is Coa,Siphon Life,Curruption,Haunt,Curse of ,Life Tap,Immolate,Shadow Bolt,Drain Soul with and only the first 4 if there's CC needed, then I reign of fire. I like Affli. cause I never run outa mana/life, but my dps sucks, I'm working on geat but I want my base up as much as possible. I need Experts to weigh in please, I need help.

As affliction your rotation should be more like:

SB > Haunt > Imm > UA > CoA > Corr > SL

Use SB as filler until you need to refresh your DoTs.

Drain Soul is really only substituted for SB when the boss hits 25%.

Also make your your imp is out DPSing as well.

Life Tap is only needed if you are close to being out of mana. If you have the tier set bonus that gives you extra spirit hit LT right before you engage.

Also, Seed of Corruption will yield more DPS than Rain of Fire. In 10/25 mans, I only use RoF if A) I REALLY need to watch my aggro. B) the mobs are dieing too fast to get a SoC off.

Other than that, not too much I can tell you without seeing your spec/gear. Please link your Armory.

Edit... Forgot UA in my rotation

On trash that gets aoe'd down you usually don't want to use dots, possibly corr due to shadowbolt procs. SoC or RoF depending on the situation, SoC does more damage but builds agro quicker, it also takes a second to cast and then explode so depending on how quick stuff goes down RoF may be better.

As for bosses, it's not so much following a strict rotation anymore but using your spells on a priority basis. You always want to have 2 stacks of shadow's embrace up and you always want to have haunt on your target. If you have to delay a shadowbolt or UA to make sure these are up that's fine. Corruption will always be refreshed with haunt as well so in addition to the debuff it keeps that taken care of for the entire fight.

Use UA and Immolate back to back, they have the same duration so if done right they should never over-lap. Keep Curse and Siphon Life up as well, try to piggyback them onto the end of longer casts, shadowbolt or Immolate for example.

Shadowbolt is the last priority. Use it to fill up dead space but do not use it if you can replace a dot or your haunt is about to fall off. Drain life takes the place of shadowbolt under 25%.

Piggyback your life tap onto longer casts or only use it while your moving around. I tend to use it right after haunt as the returning health will usually take care of it.

Imp is your demon of choice for most fight, however the doomguard and infernal can be helpful as well. The infernal is up for 1 min and does more dps than your imp, it's good to summon him at the end of a boss to get through his enrage or keep him from enraging. The doomguard can be yours for 15 min. every hour, he does much higher dps than any of your other pets as affliction. The doomguard no longer kills someone upon summoning him and neither him nor the infernal will break free and attack you(unless it's a curse of doom proc).

As for gear and talents, like Aniclator said, can't help much without the armory.

Fairly good info but I take it here you meant to say drain soul rather then drain life.

Indeed I did, drain soul becomes the filler when the boss hits 25% health.

Another thing of note is that in a few weeks patch 3.1 will drop so I wouldn't worry too much about getting the right rotation and everything down anymore as each tree is gunna change fairly drastically with the patch.

You really need to post a link to your armory. My suspicion is gear. Even though warlocks aren't the most gear-dependent class, you still need a large amount of spellpower to get your DPS up. If 10-man raids won't let you in, that's probably the case.
