Better DPSFollow

#1 Mar 30 2009 at 1:08 AM Rating: Decent
Okay, i am having some issues with DPS, and its not because I dont know my class. I have done a lot of research, so i know my class pretty well.

My armory page: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Moonrunner&n=Sermalnity

My move rotation is Bloodthirst->Whirlwind->Heroic Strike(rage dump), with bloodrage thrown in a lot (got the glyph to cut health cost by 100%), heroic throw/victory rush when appropriate. Am i doing anything wrong, do i need to change my talents/gear/gear-enhancements any? I am currently doing between 1800-2200 dps in heroics/raids.

Your talent build is... well, I'm going to go with 'bad', verging on shades of 'really bad' and 'what the hell'. You took 2 points into Improved Bloodrage instead of, I don't know, 4% better damage from 2H spec? You skipped Armored to the Teeth in favor of Unbridled Failure? You're only running 1/2 WM when you're under the Expertise cap even with 2 points into it?

It's not actually compulsory to lie. You're allowed to tell the truth, which is that you clearly haven't done that much class research.

Respec to 18/53/0. You can shift the point from Heroic Fury into Anger Management (which, incidentally, provides as much Rage as you get out of 5/5 UW for a single point and it's still not a great talent) if you want, but I like Heroic Fury for when you're knocked out of range or you want the stun off Intercept.

Don't Heroic Throw if you're in melee range, it resets the swing timer.

The incisor fragment... well, sucks. Meteorite Whetstone is probably your best blue trinket. You can get a better ring out of Heroic Gun'drak; there's other upgrades, but that's the main one I remember offhand other than the weapons.

Also, you're...

...wait, you're seriously using a Spirit gem in your belt? Come on! You're not even trying with this crap anymore.

You're using Blue gems in prismatic slots (belt) or where you don't care about the socket bonus. Replace one of them (probably the hat) with an Enchanted Tear (+6/all), it's better. Fix the gems in the other pieces... I really can't get over the Stamina gem, but sure, whatever. Bold is your best bet in general, and there's not many reasons to deviate from it. It's even worth using the +21 AGI/3% Crit instead of +21 Crit Rating because the meta requirement can be filled with just one blue gem, rather than requiring you to socket crap you don't care about.

Like Spirit. What the hell, man.

20 AGI is a pretty weak glove enchant; there's better ones (Expertise or, more to the point, pure AP).

Hey Rpzip, could you give me some pointers on how to improve my dps with my war Emmothebrave if you could that would be great.

My average DPS at the moment is about 2k (5k in VH heroic on Bird boss)

Cheers

Titansteel Destroyer belongs in the MH. I don't care what MaxDPS says, it's wrong on this one. And almost everything, really, but this is especially egregious.

I really don't like Improved Cleave; at 3/3 (since it only effects the bonus damage) it works out to ~5% increase in Cleave damage. I'd rather put the points into Intensify Rage (see: More Death Wish). The Cleave glyph is great, but the the Imp. Cleave talent just doesn't seem worthwhile. It's a reasonable place to invest if you don't need to take Commanding Presence due to other people covering CS/BS, but even then it's only moderately useful.

Enchants seem fine from glancing over it, although... uh, PvP gear? I'm guessing it has you logged out in the wrong set. Either way, replace one of the blue gems in that set with an Enchanted Tear (see: Hat) and scrap any other blue/X gems. They're very rarely worth it over just pure STR. I also notice that you don't have the PvP gear using the bonus sockets as a Smith, with the gloves in particular, but that doesn't look like your primary gear so... it's hard to tell.

Thanks RpZip,

I am usually a main tank so my DPS is, as you can see not the best. I used to do Arena pre 3.0.8 so most of my dps type gear is PvP and the rest is just items that I have gotten in heroics while tanking or trying to dps. I'm always looking for tips on how to become a better DPS.

Thanks for the help

I was interested to see the spec you gave Zalimalki (18/53/0), I have been a tank for what seems like forever and last played Fury @ lvl39. But with the coming of duel specs I have been collecting unwanted DPS plate with the aim of been able to do damage when only 1 tank is needed in the raid.

I have every little experience so will take your suggestion as is except for 1 question :) As it's just, for me, a raiding DPS spec and I hope to be behind the target at all times do I need the 4 points in deflection? If not, could 2 go into improved charge for extra rage at the start of a fight?

Interested to hear you opinion

No, you don't have to get Deflection. You may often not get to use Imp. Charge since when the tank engages it often puts the whole zone into combat, but they're primarily filler points regardless.
