Quick Macro question...Follow

Look folks, am soooo sorry to trouble you...

I have always cast my inner fire by pressing ALT+6 (okay, that's just where I bound it)...now, my lappy is getting on a bit, and my ALT key is screwed.

At this point, financially I cannot afford to get a new PC, so is there a way of making IF a macro and binding it to a key?

Sorry, am a total n00b when it comes to these things, so replies in one syllable would be helpful. If you could include crayon diagrams and some fuzzy felt, that would be even better!

:D

Well yes, but that's not going to solve your problem. I think you're misunderstanding what a macro is. You can macro the spell and drag it on your hotkey bar where you can set a hotkey to it, but that won't change anything. Let me explain;

An Inner Fire macro would look like this:
#showtooltip
/cast Inner Fire

You'd then have a little icon in your macro 'inventory' which you need to drag to your hotkey bar. Once there, clicking it or setting a hotkey to it will cause you to cast Inner Fire - which is exactly the same as what dragging the spell itself from your spellbook does.

If your alt key is screwed, the only thing you can do is put a different key (combination) as hotkey for the spell, macros really don't have anything to do with this.

Jeez, that was a quick reply!

Thanks for the info Mozared, as I said, I'm a bit clueless about these things.

I'll try and tinker about with it, see if I can get shizzle to stick.

Anyone else had a prob like this?

If you want something a little easier to deal with than Blizzard's keybinding interface, I recommend trying the addon Bindpad. I would use it for all the keys OTHER THAN the row of number keys (which automatically switch out with form changes or vehicles). This let me easily put inner fire on the function key of my choice.

I don't know if this helps you but I have the extra bars visible on Blizzard's standard interface (the two rows above the normal ones with the numeric keys bound to them)

I enabled these under the actionbar settings as show bottom left and bottom right bar. I then attached many buffs and things to them (by dragging the spell icons from the spellbook as you would with the other action bar)They include buffs such as inner fire, fortitude and divine spirit as well as abolish disease, dispel magic, mind control, shackle undead etc.

You can then go into the menu to find "key binding" and assign any key you like to any of the spells you placed on these task bars. If you keep scrolling down you will see them listed as action bars with no keybindings next to them as default. You can just click on the blank space and hit a key to assign it. Once you have assigned the key to a specific place on these action bars it will show the name of the key on the corresponding box on your action bar so you can see what it is easily and also so you can change them if you assign keys to the wrong bars.

I have my f keys assigned to a lot of them and it makes things much easier. My inner fire is f6 and is easy to hit even during combat. The f keys are not bound to anything I've ever used so I find this convenient and easy.

I hope this makes sense! Someone else who knows what I mean may be able to explain it a little better if you get stuck.

Edit: Reading your post again I see you did manage to do key binding before so hopefully my explanation will help, I find the visual reminder of what buff is what button much easier to cope with.

PS My crayons are all broken sorry, I have two children under 5 in my house, they don't last long. :D

Awww!!!

No crayons? Not even Fuzzy Felt?

What, is this the digital age or something?

:D

Thanks folks, I need to play about a bit with key bindings, tried them once years ago but never really got into the habit, have just been using Blizzards actionbars...

I'll let you know how things go.

And by the way, a big wave to all of those sharing the priestly lurve!

Grrr at the toddler! I likes my fuzzy felt....maybe Lego? *Looks hopeful*

Anyways, Bindpad works well folks, and thanks for that. In fact it works so well I need to go through all my alts and sort them out with it.

*sighs* More work!

:D

Thanks a lot folks, off to try and hit 76 now....

Just don't get overzealous and bindpad the top number keys, or you won't be able to properly use shapeshifted or vehicle abilities with a keypress. Other than that, it's great.

Can you clarify what you mean by "top number keys"?? Do you mean the f keys ie f1, f2 or the numbers directly on top of the normal keyboard letters or do you mean the numbers on the separate number pad ie to the right of the keyboard.

I am just having an "oh crap" moment...

I mean the regular number keys 1 through 0 above the qwerty keys (not the numeric keypad).

For instance, when you get on a vehicle, the vehicle abilities automatically go on keys 1 through 4, replacing your regular binding for those keys. When a druid changes form, he can have different abilities on that bar for bear and for cat form, and both can be bound to number keys and switch depending on the form.

The problem comes if you use bindpad and remap the number 1 for instance to an ability. Now it is bound only to that ability and will no longer be dynamic for use in vehicles or changes of form. If you made this mistake (I did), go into Blizzard's keybinding options panel and press the default button a couple of times to reset all keys back to Blizzard defaults, then start over.

I remapped the function keys F1 to F12 with bindpad, no problem. I even did a few shifted, like <Shift><F1>.
