Will we ever get a shapeshift?Follow

#1 Mar 27 2009 at 6:42 PM Rating: Default
I have seen posts over several months in the mage forums about shapeshifting spells for mages. Before Living Bomb was announced, sevral people had thought we were getting a pheonix form as our super deep talent. And people on a Polymorph forum in Wowhead thouhgt a self-cast polymorph form would be funny. What is everyone elses idea on stealing druid's thunder?

TBH I just WTB Flight...

No Carpets or Winged Ponies or Nuclear-Powered Le Barons... I just want them to be like "oh hey at level 15 they learned to cancel gravity... at level __ they can now learn to just take off."

That being said, I think Warlock should be able to summon a Ridable Flying Demon Mount.

I highly doubt it.

This is great, they can just swim through the air like it was water. Some sort of magical wind trail would have to be left behind them as they fly.

A superman pose while flying would be cool.....Flying gnome mage with superman pose.

The question is rather, why'd you WANT shapeshifting?

It's not really a mage thing and there's absolutely nothing I could see a mage shapeshift into and think "Well that works pretty well". The furthest I'd want to go is giving mage a fire or frost form where they'd turn into ice themselves or lit up.

When i mean shapeshifting for mages, i mean something thats not totally diffrent from mage style, but rather a form to empower our spells, like going into an essence of flame/frost/magic. With a decent CD, it could be balanced to use as a self buff during boss fights.

wouldnt be too bad. our own shadowform more or less. honestly, I just want one heal. One. Is that too much to ask? (and no, racials dont count... stupid aliens and undead)

evocation can be a heal if you by the glyph for it. Seriously that has saved me a couple of times in raids and such.

Mages arn't really designed to heal. Shapeshifting into an essence, maybe. But we probaly will only have glyphed evo and the racial until the end of WoW

We can control fire, WITH OUR MINDS. Surely we should be able to fly like The Human Torch(or the Phoenix King on Avatar).

There is no reason for a Mage to have a heal. The concept of the class (while leveling) is free food and killing things without getting hit.

And, as someone else said Evo+Glyph=heal.

I REALLY want Blizz to stop giving every class things that other ones already have. I understand BRPNTC, but if they cannot do it without making classes barely deviate, they shouldn't be doing it at all. There are plenty of ways to supplement that concept without making a Mage = Warlock = Druid = Priest.

You have no idea how pissed I was when I found out the 51 point Demo talent was going to be Metamorphosis. I mean, you spend 50 points in a tree to get an ability that doesn't utilize ANY of those (okay, they did later change some to help it, I think, but still). Shape-shifting is a major concept behind the Druid. I hate it when the core concept is abandoned...

And one of the concepts behind Mages was that of "Glass Cannon."

PvP and PvE need to be totally separate entities. >.<

They can start with removing Remove Curse.

@idiggory

The concept that has been thrown around a bit is simply a self buff with a neat graphical effects. No flame aura, no melee attacks, just buffed spells. While it is similal to Shadowform and Boomkin, Blizz does mean for the classes to overlap some. And as an end tier fire talent(if its implemented there, if at all) woild not make it great from a PvP perspective. And it could be balanaced by adding a spell lock on other treees of magic while in it.

That does sound very interesting to me. I'm imagining a mage who trades out his frost and arcane spells for retardin-like survivability. That sounds like a completely new dimension of PvP to me, as it removes all your snares but does make you harder to kill.

Interesting, but a spell lock on other trees I don't think is the right way to do it. We would lose (off the top of my head): remove curse, counterspell, blink, evocation, frost nova, cone of cold, ice lance -- speaking of pvp abilities)

I don't really consider Boomkin or ToL shapeshifts. To me, the shape shift is a form like Metamorphosis or Dire Bear that gives all new skills and you may be able to use some of your old ones. But, even then, I hate the idea of a Mage getting shape shift. Having one end-tier talent boost damage one one school by that much seems stupid, especially when they are trying to encourage frost-fire builds.

I dont think blizz is rly pushing for frostfire. Yes, it has very high dps, but ive seen other builds do great damage. And to everyone who posted after my PvP commnet, i said NOT great for pvp, not acctually great. And most PvE build mages still kepp their spells limited to one tree or so, but as Anobix said, we do need to use our arcane spells situationally. This would be ment to be popped during a flat out dps fight, not a fght where we have to move, dispell, evo etc.

Really?

What? Creating a whole new ability and adding it into talents wasn't enough to convince you they were "pushing for it?"

This isn't the kind of thing Blizz generally does when they don't care...

They've SAID they want it to be viable. The fact of the matter is that there is always one spec that has the highest damage potential. Right now, that isn't FF. But it could be in the future.
