Any thought on what instances I should run to get some good healing gear? Or are battlegrounds my best bet? (I really suck at pvp, too)

Considering we can't see what your healing gear looks like, I can't really help much.
You can try to get the mace out of Heroic Nexus (that's usually a nice one to start out with).

Head: Battlemap Hide Helm (h.UP) or Helm of the Majestic Stag (Kirin Tor Rep)
Neck: Amulet of Dazzling Light (h.Nexus) or Titanium Spellshock Necklace (crafted)
Shoulder: Spaulders of the Violet Hold (h.VH) or Stormhide Shoulders (crafted)
Back: Wispcloak (crafted) or Shroud of Resurrection (h.UP)
Chest: Dalronn's Jerkin (h.UK) or Revenant's Breastplate (crafted)
Wrist: Bands of Channeled Energy (h.Nexus) or Flame Sphere Bindings (h.AK)
Hands: Grips of Fierce Pronouncements (Wyrmrest Accord Rep) or Lightning-Charged Gloves (h.HoS)
Waist: Mail Girdle of the Audient Earth (h.HoL) or Slad'ran's Coiled Cord (h.Gun)
Legs: Kilt of Dark Mercy (Knights of the Ebon Blade Rep) or Frozen Forest Kilt (h.Nexus)

Totem: Totem of the Bay (Venture Coin Vendor) -- NO OTHER CHOICE HERE .. THIS THING IS TRIVIAL TO GET AN VERY GOOD!!
You should be able to heal h.Naxx in crafted gear, the Totem, and whatever else you can pick up that has spell power on it. Once you have most of the gear above you'll be easily able to handle 10mans, and lower end 25mans.
There are other options for each slot (accept trinket) but these are my top two choices in each, and I've stayed away from any BoP crafted items you may be able to make nor have I included tier drops you might get from turning in emblems or running things like Vault.

I just realized that now 2/3 of my stuff has +sp on it. Granted there are a lot of quest greens, but could I start to heal in them?

That list made me very happy. I dinged 80 today and had the valor wrists, and both Revenant's pieces plus some blues, and I got the legs and mace off Nexus HC in my very first run. I am one lucky fellow, at least this once ...
